      Hi Karen. He is a new foster who was left tied to a tree and abandoned. He is quarantined until I have him health screened to make sure he isn't a danger to my other dogs. He will stay with me and be brought in once he passes his health screen and/or we find his forever home.

    Hey man, so I've also been having a similar overheating problem but in the reverse order. The car runs fine at normal temp while driving but will rise upon idle(i.e stopped at a light/in traffic/while parked). Wondering if you or anybody else had any advise

    • @Souper309d
      @Souper309d ปีที่แล้ว

      that sounds at first blush to me that there may some restriction in the water flow thru they system OR some restriction in air flow such as there being debri in the radiator fins in the case of water flow, at idle, water pressure would be low, but at higher rpms, the pressure might be enough to flow adequate water to cool. my first guess would be radiator air flow blockage or partial blockage - I would start by inspecting and hosing out the radiator fins then observing the difference if any. Let us know what you find and good luck

    Avoid the water pump with the plastic impellers like the plague, they work lose on the drive shaft and intermittently overheat your motor until the impeller falls off and the motor overheats constantly. In this video, it is more likely a faulty thermostat stuck shut. This is common on the Mk1 TT 225 engine, sometimes the stat sticks open too and the motor never reaches temp (fault P1296 if memory serves me correct) as some garages use cheaper none Audi thermostats. Get a good thermostat that opens at 82 degrees C and you will be fine. Also, use deionized water with the correct antifreeze added or you will end up with the same problem a month or two down the line! Been there with both the overheat and the under heat, fit a good quality thermostat and a pump with a steel impeller! Use a green temperature sensor too. When replacing the thermostat it is wise to buy a new plastic oil dip stick as old ones go brittle and snap, also if replacing the water pump replace the cambelt (do both these at the same time, false economy not to) Then you are set to drive another 40,000miles without issue!

    • @Souper309d
      @Souper309d 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      As I stated in my original comment, "Ended up being a water pump impeller that was slipping on it's shaft. " - the impeller hub was cracked. It was not the thermostat. Solution - replace water pump with plastic impeller with an all metal water pump.

    • @Souper309d
      @Souper309d 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      your situation is a little different than mine. In my case, the water pump would not push coolant at driving speed rpm, but would push water at low rpm In your case, it sounds like you don't push coolant at low rpm (ie around idle) but do at driving speed. Could be an airflow issue over the radiator, or a coolant push issue. I would try a test - with the car stopped, but running, watch the temp gage. when it begins to get hotter, raise the rpm to 1200 to 1500 rpm and note if the temp quits going up and starts to go down

    problem; the water pump impeller hub, which was plastic, had begun to crack. At rpm over around 1500rpm, centrifugal force would cause it to expand enough that it spun on it's hub, and wouldn't push water. Why Audi used plastic for such a critical item is beyond me. I replaced the water pump with one that had a metal impeller.

    • @Souper309d
      @Souper309d 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is not an opinion. The problem in the video was not cause by cold country design - it was caused by a defective water pump. The impeller would spin on it's shaft at elevated rpm, and would therefore not push water. At low rpm, the impeller made enough contact with the shaft that it would then push water. in this case, when I replaced the water pump, I found the original water pump impeller was made of plastic, and had cracked at the hub. at rpm, centrifugal force expanded the impeller hub to the extent that it would spin on the shaft instead of pushing coolant
