That train really should've had its' headlight on. This also reminds me of Todd Strasser's book "Don't Get Caught Driving the School Bus," which also has a scene where a school bus is stopped on the tracks, except it wasn't stalled, and it has the same outcome (the bus moves off the tracks at the last second, crashing through the crossing gate right before the train can hit it.)
