Celia Paul private view Taster 2
Celia Paul is that great rarity; a woman painter with an international reputation.
Celia Paul: private view tells the artist’s story in her own words, of her childhood in India and her days as an art student; of her intense decades-long relationship with painter Lucian Freud and the birth of their son; of the challenges of motherhood, the unresolvable conflict between caring for a child and remaining committed to art.
Jake Auerbach, filmmaker and friend, has filmed with Paul twice in the past, in 2003 and 2011. In the two years leading up to the publication of Celia Paul’s enormously successful autobiography Self Portrait* she and Auerbach filmed a series of conversations which reveal the determination, ruthlessness and warmth of this most private of women.
Celia Paul: private view reveals a life truly lived through art. From her move to the Slade School of Fine Art at sixteen to the practices of her present-day studio. At its heart, this is a film about a young woman becoming an artist, with all the sacrifices and complications that entails. As she moves out of Freud’s shadow, and navigates a path to artistic freedom, Paul’s power and identity as an artist emerge.

A taste of the new film about Tom Phillips long term arts project. Each spring artist Tom Phillips walks a nine mile circle taking photographs in 20 specific places. These photographs are, as far as is possible, taken from the same spot in the same direction with the same framing. The project was begun in 1973 and over the years some views have changed dramatically while others seem virtually u...

Narcissist..Art is not about the painter..it’s about the subject. The subject should always be a gift to others. Otherwise, it is very boring. And ad nauseum.

Quite articulate about incoherence, chaos, and talent.Just unfettered marks within the laws of the universe. Signs of madness and cliches, all tainted by the horrors of war. To be fair this is my first encounter with this artist. Not the kind of artistic interface I am keen on right now.

One of the most beautiful films on art/artists (which is not just on a art/the artist) ever made. Other films by Mr Auerbach belong to the same category. Especially "To the Studios" on Frank Auerbach and marvellous interview with Lucian Freud made just before the show in Hayward Gallery, late 80s. Very touching and beyond any comparison.
