Practice_12.11.24_Pentatonic Minor Conversions
Purpose: Pentatonic minor conversions
Backing track: jazz backing track | II-V-I | C major
Notes:
-regarding the video. This is a small clip of a very long practice session. there are parts that sound really cool, and other parts that are slightly off timing. it took a while to get my ear tuned to the chord changes. I learned that there are some landing notes that are better than others.
- I’m definitely seeing the fretboard differently with this exercise. for example, connecting the A pentatonic and B pentatonic is easier for me to see. the B-flat is slightly trickier. Brian - you called it… I’m not quite comfortable with the blank frets. Will have to work on that.
- I spent some time drilling my right hand this morning. I was really trying to pay attention to my alternate picking - turns out it was all over the place after my break. I’m going to keep working on being deliberate about my right hand. (this is crazy, but earlier in my practice session, I started using my middle finger in addition to my index and thumb!! I got really excited, then somehow subconsciously blocked myself from using it. The good news is that it’s in there!)
-lots lots lots of new stuff to learn here. I also wrote a song using 251 this morning! we’ll see if I remember it tomorrow.

    If you haven't done it yet, I highly recommend that you contact a teacher. Pay attention to the position of your hands. Left and right. The left hand often pinches the strings in the wrong place. Vibrato!!! What is this? It's awful) Work on the rhythm separately. It's ragged. Use a metronome to work on it. and when you move your left hand don't do it slides along the outer surface of the strings. You need control over unnecessary dirt. If you work on the basics, you will develop very quickly. You can do it!!! Sorry for my English))) Rock 'n' roll 🎸🎸🎸🤘🤘🤘

    after watching you I wanted to maybe add a tip for you, hope you don't mind, I am not a rock player, I studied jazz for the bass at a conservatoire and then picked up guitar. Regarding double stops if you are over a major a dominant chord and u r using its major pentatonic, you can combine it briefly with your parallel minor penta to create patterns where you have fourths on the same fret with a note a semitone away to do the double stop

    • @almendratlilkouatl
      @almendratlilkouatl 10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      like over a C Maj or a C7 chord you would have C D E G A for the major and C Eb F G A for the minor penta, combined it gives you a A D to A Eb pattern accentuating the third, also the pairs of fourths separated by a whole tone like in C F to D G you can go for a double stop from one or both notes, and you can make one of those sharp to add a bluesy touch, I don't know if I got my point accross but I hope this can help you out a bit

    Great contour! Solid beginning, good development and climactic ending. It's an iconic song and solo, and the rhythm and structure of it calls for a certain type of phrasing, which George Harrison explored in the original solo, and your solo has the same feel and pacing, which again is natural to the song. Another cool way to practice is with segmented repetitions. Whatever phrase you played, you start the next phrase by repeating a segment of the last phrase. (it can be a predetermined set of notes, or by the musical structure of the phrase, however you want to approach it each time.) This really forces you to be hyper-aware of what you're playing, connecting your lines, and being intentional (-:

    Hi there, nice practicing and I like the idea of the video (-: Have you heard of 'limitations'? I think you would like it. It's a very natural, immersive way of thinking about practicing; like a child. You limit yourself to a bunch of notes, start lets say with 3 usually. A bunch of notes = a point on the instrument, so not D Eb B throughout all octaves and all positions etc - but rather D Eb B in a specific point. Then you take your time exploring them in all variations and ways, like a child, with whatever backing track. You can pick them randomly - even if it's dissonant, you're still learning the sound and sense against the chords. Try to really become intentional with these 3 notes, internalizing their relation to each harmonic movement, to eachother, the melodic possibilites, any technical aspect, etc. Then, when you feel you've fully explored all possibilities with these 3 notes and gained a good intimicay with them - listen internally to what next note you would like to play, and try to add it. If it's a miss - no problem, just explore the possibilites with the new note added in. And so on and on (-: *You can also do it within a scale if you want. It basically allows you to focus in really good and really internalize the material, and then expand it naturally. *In this style of practice - always aim to be as musical as possible, as intentional as possible with what you play. It can sound dissonant, but stand behind the dissonance out of an attitude of acceptance, curiosity and exploration (-: But just really try to make music out of these 3 notes.

    • @heidiguitarstuff
      @heidiguitarstuff 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you! - I haven’t heard of limitations, per se, but I’ve been working on ‘chunking’ … similar concept I think. I like the idea of 3 notes at a time and trying to make them as musical as possible, in different variations. Fun! I’ll throw that into the mix. Thanks. Thanks for taking the time for write this suggestion.
