This CUSTOM Sony Picture Profile Does ALL The Work For You

Today I talk about one of my new favorite ways to setup a Sony Picture Profile inside my Sony a7s3 settings. Although I bet you could set this up in any modern Sony camera that has S-Cinetone. I dive a little deeper into how I setup the S-Cinetone profile to look really good straight out of camera. Grading 8-bit footage? Watch out for this!
Thank you very much for your color-grading tutorials. I wish I had watched your videos earlier to improve my color grading skills in Davinci Resolve.
s cinetone or ay profile needs some work . PP dont matter as long as ur exposrue and white balance are on point, as your are supposed to have that correct on camera anyways ! shooting slog3 would work exactly the same and would also get more out of the image !
Great vid learned a lot thanks!
so good haha
How about the fellow 8 Bit users? Have you made any videos about 8 Bit already, If not, what picture profile would you recommend for film emulation on a ZV-E10?
Hey Donovan, if you use this customer profile what is the dual ISO? 100 and 2000? Big thank you, got my second wedding coming up in September, super excited!
Did you do the punch in’s in camera or in post? Solid job btw 🙌🔥
Can we use this in a6600
Great! Thanks
great vid make more!
Can I use this on a6300?
Photo program 3d lut creator could do this a decade earlier, I wonder if Resolve have copied its functionality.
Sorry I forgot to normalize and compress the audio. Forgive me I'm a bit out of practice with TH-cam. I plan to upload more videos though!
Great tutorial, it turned out so good...thanks for sharing!!
Thank you! I think it turned out great too. It's one of my newest favorite looks!
Greath and simple , thank you
You are welcome!
Big thanks for video .
No problem! I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Thanks Donovan, keep up the good work!
Thank you! I plan on getting my TH-cam channel back up and running proper. I'll probably diversify into some other content too, related to video work so I have plenty of great content to upload.
Why not just use the auto WB brush in the primary wheels and just click on the white dress? It always works great for me and is quicker
That's a great question! This is a pretty old tutorial, so If I were to remake it today I'd probably do this differently.
@@donovankean it sometimes needs to be slightly adjusted on the vector scope here and there but it’s pretty efficient 💯
Excellent. So for old footage in the 90s which is showing at 1080 (so it's squeezed horizontally, making the people in it wide and fat) would you use the same adjustment but for the Y axis @ 0.65?
That's a good questions! I'm not sure, TBH. I've never worked with really old footage like that and needed to squeeze it.
I haven't seen you for a long time bro, how are you? How is home, how is the child? Don't forget about the channel, good luck to you!
Thanks for reaching out! It's been a really busy year so I haven't had the chance to show my channel as much love. But hopefully I'm going to be able to get back into the game!
So cute!
I know right???
What Camera and lens did you use?
I used the Sony a7s3 with the Tamron 28-75 2.8. Super simple setup!
only work on sony 10bit model?
I'm not sure! From what I can tell, it only works on sony cameras that have S-Cinetone
Thank you!
You're welcome!
0:54 s-cinetone (black-15, knee:auto, sat+20, detail-4)
HIya! What if i shoot everything on 60fps? But i dont want all of them to be in slow-mo? Is there a way to interpret it to 24 but not slowing the clips down and just choose which clip to slow mo?
Great question! Yes. All you have to do is add them to the timeline without going to the clip properties and changing them to 24fps. If you just add them to a 24fps timeline, then they'll play back normally. Then you can choose to slow each clip down as you please by selecting an and pressing "Ctrl+R" on your keyboard.
Great video man!!
Appreciate it!
What are your other settings when you use this settings?
Not much really! I might need to adjust a little bit of the saturation in post, but everything else I leave pretty much default
For speed ramps, I've been using this method I learnt from the TH-camr Jamie Fenn. You create an adjustment clip over the speed ramped footage and open the adjustment clip in Fusion: MediaIn > Optical Flow > Vector Motion Blur > MediaOut. You can give it a try! For FPV footage I've only ever used the old motion blur options in the colour panel, but will definitely try your method then next time I get some decent footage!
What lens did you use to shoot the sample footage? The bokeh rendering has a really nice character!
The helios 44-2! Awesome little lens for only $100 bucks
@@donovankean Dang, I have the helios 44-2 and love it! You'd think I'd be able to recognise its image after using it so much 😅
@@tanzhonghui To be fair, I've inserted an oval piece to make the bokeh more anamorphic. But yes it's such a fun lens!
@@donovankean Ahhh a little anamorfake trickery I see, that might have been what threw me off haha
That was a genuinely wonderful example video. There was so much joy and curiosity you captured.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video man i have a 6100 at first i thougth a fuck should i get something else with color profile better bitt rate etc... bu i an quite surprise actually with how good is the camera way better that i though i am just starting and its more than enough i need a new lens tho could you recomend a good budget lense that you personaly have used with this camera to do a research please bro
Yeah the a6100 is a great little camera! The Sigma 18-50 2.8 APSC lens is a great budget option.
nice tutorial but for theNikon Z9 it wil be totally different i think in the setup page.
Yes you'll want to make sure you have the right input color profile for sure! I'm not sure what that would be for Nikon.
Great post! So 🤔 using the "motion blur" option in the color page, automatically uses the "key frames" you placed on the edit page...? we don't have to "key frame it" then...? thanks! cheers~
Well, the motion blur in the color page only interprets original frames. So if you're using speed ramping, it's not going to interpret any skipped frames. Do do that, you'll need to right click and select "Render In Place" from there, select the highest quality. After that, go back to the color page and add motion blur. It will then blur together the visible frames and skip the skipped frames.
I dont have s-cinetone in my sony A7III?
Not that I know of, for the a73, I recommend just using either no PP, or s-log 2 + ITU709 Matrix (for color)
My biggest problem with LOG-Profiles is that I can't see the WB, without leaving the LOG-Profile. The "right" WB looks in most cases uncanny and unnatural, for example a white shirt in front of a candle at night will never be white, it will be orange or yellow, but with a LOG-Profile I can't f***ing see sh*t and if I "fix it in post" it's just extra work for less quality. I even bought an external monitor with transformation-LUT-capability, but it completely sucks, I can only say for example do SLog2 to Rec709, but not SGamut or SGamut3.cine, so the image looks nothing like in Davinci Resolve as on the monitor preview.
Some Sony cameras have an option called "Gamma display assist", which adds a fair bit of contrast and saturation to the image you see on screen. I also find the app "Monitor +" to be very useful when shooting video, although sometimes it's a bit laggy.
This!
Thanks for your organisation tricks in Davinci!
Glad I could help!
thanks!
No problem!
Great! I need a mouse with two scroll wheels too.
I love my MX Master 3. It's my trusty editing mouse!
Really good tutorial. So good in fact I took notes on my iPad as you spoke. You’re a good teacher. I’m a 76 year young student. Good teachers are hard to find. Your son is lucky.
So glad I could help! Thanks for watching I really appreciate it!
Video about picture profle yet 90% of it is just your face. Wtf man

i love pp11! Made me want to do more videos. It's so easy.

Thank you!
Thank you so much! I love this look and even tweaked it a little! But I did want to know if you had a tutorial for how to do this on the fx6? I want both cameras to match but I don’t know how to navigate through the menu
I wish I could help you, but I don't own the FX6! Otherwise I could make a video about it.
do you recommend this setting for interior shots ?
As long as you get correct white balance, it should work pretty much anywhere! Just keep in mind the new second native ISO on the a7s3 is 3000 (I think haha)
Thanks for explaining this because I personally like the PP more than the standard option they have. This just makes it more bad ass lol. I actually use the PP for photography looks awesome! . I do some tiny video work I've been slowly getting into so I'm a total noob to videography and you helped me on this one big time.
Glad this helped! Thanks for watching!
