Damn nearly an overrun it used 98% of the runway.
It's a standard reduced thrust (derated takeoff). On the Boeing 737-800 series we calculate performance based on takeoff weight, temperature, wind speed/direction, runway length and any obstacle clearance required as well as a standard derate. The flight management computers (FMC) calculate the takeoff speeds and these are manually verified. There are a lot more legal requirements and variables, that's just some of the basics. The result is a longer takeoff roll than full thrust would produce but it is still perfectly safe.

Its not the FMC that calculates it it, The FMC is where the information is entered V1 VR V2 ect.. they will normally have an EFB that will calculate the V speeds.

Amazing in that over 4 hours or so you can travel thousands of miles, fly over millions of people.pass over dramatic geological landscapes and arrive in a different climate and people. 21st century earth really is breathtaking. Stunning footage and very enjoyable. Thank you. ❤
