Eta Carina single 15 second VA / EAA with very basic equipment
Manual push-to Star Adventurer EQ mount with RA tracking motor, and ZWO ASI224 uncooled camera. SharpCap Pro as the camera control software. Many on forums believe they need expensive equipment, and all sorts of advanced stuff like platesolving, reducers, GoTo mounts, cooled cameras, etc but in fact you can get excellent results with quite inexpensive equipment. It will require you learning how to use the software and hardware of course. That fact doesn't change! But many give up on the Video Astronomy / EAA hobby after purchasing all sorts of gear ... so perhaps starting with cheaper stuff is better - you don't loose so much money if you sell it all! This shows you that cheap gear can still yield excellent results.

Liveview is a direct 60fps feed off the sensor. EOS Utilities is free with every Canon camera purchase. Liveview is used by Pro photographers for Live studio sessions. Typically, it's a modelling shot / advert in either video or still format and using liveview, the client and others sit looking at the live feed 'directing' the photographer and model to move this way or that, to 'show' the produ...

How to create 3d Jupiter image
มุมมอง 3035 ปีที่แล้ว
Shows how to create a 3d (cross-eye method) of Jupiter from two images taken about 15 to 20 minutes apart. The relative positions of all the surface features on the planet move slightly different amounts in the left to right field of view, and from that your brain recognises that it must be a 3 dimensional surface and thus you "see" the planet in 3d.

Easy way to learn VA / EAA camera software such as SharpCap

There are just five settings which are available in all VA / EAA software, which are the main things you need to learn about. Trifecta is a recent addition to the English language. It first appeared in the early 1970s as a term for a horse-racing bet in which the first, second, and third place finishers are chosen in the correct order. The word has since broadened in meaning: it can now also refer to a group of three (usually desirable) things

    I discovered this quite by accident, years ago. One thing about it that I LOVE is pausing the video or slowing it down so it looks more like a 'regular' video. If you pause it, the displayed picture is still as clear as a bell. No blur. Even road signs caught on the video when driving down the highway at 80 mph are clear and easy to read. I set the camera up like this the first time on the dashboard of my car and drove around Alamogordo, New Mexico for about 45 minutes. The video plays back in about 5 minutes, but when I pause it I can CLEARLY see everything on the screen - signs, license plates, store hours posted on shop doors, peoples faces, etc. I now have many videos like this of places I have visited which will be very nice to look back on many years from now when 'reminiscing'. OK, I am almost 80 now, but maybe my great grandkids can get some pleasure from them. I would give a lot to have videos like these of the neighborhoods I have lived in over the past 75 years..... sigh....

    Hi Carl, It has been along while since this video was put up. I have had an extremely long break from astro' stuff. I am revisiting all the videos that I put away to refresh the memory bank on what to do with all the different astro programs. The weather has been lousy down here, I cant imagine how cloudy it has been for months I cant recall it been so bad or that I have never taken any notice of it before getting into astrophotography. We are supposed to get a couple of sunny days down here so I am hoping to get some solar imaging done, been playing with different cameras and getting the program sharpcap pro up and running, so when I stumbled upon this video again I found it will help no end. Cheers Robert

    What cable are you using with your DSLR?

    • @carlsmith992
      @carlsmith992 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The standard cable which comes with your DSLR to connect it to the PC. The benefit of Canon DSLR's is it comes with Canon EOS Utilities which loads onto the pc and which provides the LiveView direct sensor feed from the camera, plus from EOS Utilities you then control the ISO, exposure, shutter and intervalometer all built into EOS Utilities .... as well as instruct the Canon camera to save any shots taken into any directory on the pc. It is from the saved images folder you can then stack the frames using either AstroToaster (see other video's on my channel where I use AstroToaster live) or SharpCap. But SharpCap is a PITA to get working seamlessly / automatically to pick up RAW files format. It will auto pickup jpegs but jpegs are compressed and especially bad dark shadow compression. I would strongly suggest you stick with using proper astro cameras with sharp cap as there are heaps of users to help you with the Sharpcap/astro camera combos to live stack etc, while there are very, very few to help you with trying to stack non-astro camera images using SharpCap. There are also very, very few using AstroToaster. See a video on my channel Eta carina single 15 second VA / EAA with very basic equipment to see a proper astro camera in use with SharpCap .... the astro cameras are plug and play and work very easily with SharpCap and its stacking etc. Plus the extra sensitivity of astro cameras designed for such astro work allow MUCH easier processing than DSLR's built for "normal" photography ie not built for extyreme low light. Cheers

      Modded and custom white balanced (CWB) using Jerry Lodriguss advice as per option 2 in his website (www.astropix.com/html/astrophotography/customwb.html). Astrobackyard youtuber of fame for AP also uses Jerry's advice for CWB. Having said that I used an unmodded 700d for years and IMHO is very close is performance to the modded cameras. In fact famed and awarded photographer Roger Clark discusses how good unmodded cameras are in his website (clarkvision.com/articles/do_you_need_a_modified_camera_for_astrophotography/). Do NOT click on any of his links oon that page ... just scroll down that page and you will see his modded vs unmodded discussions on that link.

    Great Information Carl! I love my IOptron AZMP mount. Is it impossible to achieve equitorial tracking or at least imroved sub times using a properly dialed in wedge? I utilized a satellite dish mounting system and it is rock solid. The pier is an aluminum pole in reinforced concrete. I attempted it last night with wonderful seeing conditions and was heart broken with the results. I am running it with an asiair plus, & an OAG. I was able to polar align using the asiair plus and thought that I could then perform a plate solve and thought that would enable the mount to track a given object and use my guiding camera/feature. I have had success with the AZGTI in EQ mode with the same setup. I think this mount would out perform the AZGTI in every aspect of tracking. So I hope there is some work around to make this happen. Has anyone had success making this happen without an EQ mode option selection? I realize it does not have the eq mode choice in the hand controller. I have it connected to the asiair plus via the eq mod cable and do not need to use the hand controller. Thank you.
