Where Does Hadrian's Wall Start? Roman Wall. VanlifeUK Adventure
We start today at Wallsend, the end point of Emperor Hadrian's world famous wall - the #romans wall that separated England from Scotland. But where does the wall start? Does anybody know? I wanted to find out.
In this #vanlifeuk video, I headed 84 miles cross-country to the English north-west coast. To Bowness On Solway. The start point of The Hadrian's Wall Walk.
After being chased away by a local busy-body, I ended up in Maryport for a quiet night & an extra lie in, before starting my 2 hour drive home.
If you've enjoyed the video, please give it a thumbs up. If you aren't already a subscriber, hopefully you'll consider hitting that subscribe button. And feel free to leave a comment. We try to reply to all comments where we can.

Fogstar or Eco-worthy needs to sponsor one of your videos, I' love to see the difference lithium batteries would make to your setup
@@pantrypreparedness I’d love one of these companies to sponsor me & send me a lifepo4 battery. They’re so much better than lead acid. But sadly a lot more expensive. The cost per year for lifepo4 is actually cheaper than lead acid. It’s just the higher upfront cost that’s the stumbling block for most people - me included. Maybe one day my channel will grow enough where somebody like this would consider sponsoring me. But realistically i don’t think it’d happen any time soon
“moved on by locals” Clickbait gold 😊 and an epic 2nd park up dude 🎉
@@zafiracamper I’m not sure I understand your comment. But Maryport was a lot more welcoming. There was another van there already in the carpark I was in. And the 2 other spots I passed to get to my park up had vans & cars in too. I just wish I’d been able to explore Bowness a bit more for the video. But such is life. It was canny overall
@@ourvan.ourwaynumber 2 defo looked like my kind of spot :) Other van life channels would have used the woman moving you on in the thumbnail and title to get people to click (clickbait :)
Ah I get you now. Another missed opportunity for extra views. Story of my life 😂
Non professional sign and she kept coming back yup im gona say she made the sign and is crazy lol
@@paintedpreppers-airguns yeah i think she might’ve been the one who made it (or knows who does). There was also a RSPB sign, but I don’t know if that’s legally enforceable. I just moved for an easy life though.
@ourvan.ourway yea agree there defo not worth the hassle
Good
Thanks
Do you not fit a relay to stop the micro switch in the tap burning out over time?
The tap has a micro switch built into it. But to be honest, they’re less than £20 for a new one so if it stopped working then it’s cheap & easy enough to change. I know from experience as I snapped the fitting on one not so long ago by mistake 😂
@@ourvan.ourway ok, I burnt out 2 over 6 years, fitted a relay and that’s been good for 8 years now, cheers
What relay did you fit? It might be worth looking into if they’re easy enough to fit & cheap. I don’t mind spending a little extra to get longer life from a product
@@ourvan.ourway automotive 12v dc relay between the microswitches and the pump, was told to fit by local camper converter company, stumbled across your vid as I’m about to fit one for a pal and was looking for a wiring diagram for the relay.
I’ll look into it more over the weekend. Thank you
How timely for the whole boy racers vibe 😂 and if there’s one thing I’ve learnt …. I can’t be doing a slopey park up 😂
@@zafiracamper we sleep sideways in the van, so it could’ve been resolved in an instant if Laura had agreed to just sleep the other way instead. But she refused as it was “her side” & she wasn’t giving it up for anything. You’ll know yourself, it’s safer to agree than to argue 😂 Yeah it was a coincidence for the boy racers. Maybe next time I’ll take a leaf out of your book & engage with them, rather than huffing & puffing & moaning. Or maybe I won’t. Who knows. Old habits die hard 😂😂😂
@@ourvan.ourwayMrs H has the same side issue 😆 Ah mind you mine was different, mine was a “showdown” - I might not have been so friendly if just a couple of lads racing 😅
I wanted to see you two eating your breakfast 😢
I wanted to eat breakfast. And drink coffee. But the voice of authority spoke & decided I wasn’t having any 😢😂
Very nice 🙏 more recently I put Velcro all round the windows edge and all round the covers, as that way makes the covers “light tight”. The only prob I had with this was that I loctited the Velcro to the window….. and on our Cambridge camp, the super hot Weather heated up the glass and the glue… And then the Velcro strips fell off 😂
😂😂😂 Nothing ever just works does it? Life always finds a way of kicking us in the nuts somehow
@@ourvan.ourway what was super funny was when I stuck my head in the boot and the loctited wet Velcro stuck to my hair 😂😂
When I had the foil bubble wrap duct taped to the roof of the van, there was a little patch where the tape was creased & the sticky bit was exposed. I always found it with my hair. It was good tape, never lost its stick - despite 1/2 my head of hair stuck to it
@@ourvan.ourway 😂
Nice little upgarde looks awesome 😎
Yeah we went in the van for a quick night out before our holiday & they kept the light out. But also, I noticed where I sleep (by the doors) there was no noticeable chill from the window area like there was previously. So while I might’ve buggered up making them a bit, they work. And that’s the main thing.
@ourvan.ourway sweet good stuff, easier to relax now id guess 😎
first 😆 - looking good, the privacy makes a huge difference
😂😂😂
Yeah the difference between them & the thin nylon covers we had previously is amazing. We noticed there wasn’t any chill coming from the windows too, like we had with just the nylon covers. So they’ll be great once the colder weather comes.
We had the same solor controller and had the same fault, i pin pointed the issue to the controller. I never got help or refund and did replace it with a victron, victron is such a better unit,, why why why did you stick with a renogy and not change, ??
Hi there. The reason I stuck with the same product is because Amazon refunded the money in the way of a gift card balance. It was only enough to purchase another Renogy unit rather than a Victron sadly. The difference in cost was quite a lot. But I suppose you pay for quality. One day we hope to buy a better van. And with that, we’ll be kitting it out with Victron equipment & Lifepo4 batteries. Thanks
That is true, victron are more money, 😊
So cool! Exactly what I was looking for 🙂
@@cathmann1 I’m glad it was helpful for you.
Tell you what, how scary would it be if all those axe throwing spaces were being used at the same time 😅 they were so close to each other 😮
Good morning. I think it’s just the way the camera showed it. When Laura started initially, there was 3 people on the range. They were all on next to each other & there was plenty of space. And the guy who ran it (Andy) was very safety focused. Even when he was showing other people what to do later on, he was still watching Laura too to make sure she was ok. And Laura loved it. She recommends it to anyone/everyone
It looks so relaxing. Love the drone footage too. 😊
@@CK-wl1bf it was a really chilled weekend. I think the combination of being children-free, nice weather & extra space by using the gazebo & wind breaks as an awning all helped. I love flying the drone, I’m still not the best at it though. As you would’ve seen, I still get the controls the wrong way round & I’m not the smoothest flyer. But I’m getting better (I hope)
Looks like you both had fun. Especially Laura with the axes. Dont worry Robert. I think the prices you mentioned are crazy to. I am a Yorkshireman though You’re getting better with the drone. Keep putting it in the videos
Good Morning David. Yeah Laura really loved the axe throwing. For the drinks, I assume because the vendors (I assume) would’ve had to pay a premium to be there, they had to charge a premium to make their money back. It didn’t make it easier handing a tenner over for 1 drink though & not getting any change from it. No matter where you’re from, that’s unreal. For the drone, I’m glad you enjoyed it. I love using it & hope to use it a lot more in future videos. I’m just not the best when it comes to flying it. But hopefully I’ll get better at it when I’m using it more Thanks for taking the time to watch the video & leave a comment. Have a great day
The best part about van life: adventure never stops!
😂😂😂
Try to buy a T2 cheap...😅
@@petersefcsik2916 vanlife can be cheap. Just not the van 😂
😂😂😂
You have patience sir. Thank you for the video and sharing your experience with us.
@@OP-fd4lh no worries. I only wish it’d been a better experience with Renogy customer service and I’d been able to get the only charge controller working again. But I’m grateful that Amazon support came to the rescue & got us up & running again with replacement items.
Beautiful
Thank you
Ah the trusty ridge monkey 🎉 although it did seem quite a mission to get the pizza sandwich done 😅 We’ll blame Adz for that 😂 And what an end dude - from one disaster to another 🥹
The Pizza was worth the effort. Laura thoroughly enjoyed it. Yeah it wasn’t the night I had planned. But nothing ever seems to go to plan for me. At least the bed at home was comfy 😂 Someone recommended a different app (searchforsites), so we’ve downloaded that to see if it’s any better than park4night. Hopefully the next one will be better 🤞
@@ourvan.ourway ah was gonna say that - why you paying for P4N - it’s free? Or do they now charge and I have an old free version? Yeah I’ve never looked at that one, have heard of it tho. Tbh my absolute go to is super Simple… Google Earth and then Google Streetview - almost all of my car camps I’ve found this way 🙏
We have the free version of p4n, but we’ve been told the paid for version shows more parking spots than the free one. Yeah if I’d looked hard enough, then I could’ve found a different spot after 3 failed attempts. But to be honest, I was a bit sick by that point. But Google maps + street view is a good tip. Thank you 👍
@@ourvan.ourway that’s weird my comments disappeared 😂 mind you, this happens all the time to me and others - but at least you saw it before it went 😂 I’d never realised p4n had a paid part, it used to be just you have to register and then you’d see more - clearly they wanna make some £££s now ☺️ Yeah this is always my fear with the unplanned ones…. Hunting for spaces 😭
I’ve had a proper look. It’s p4n+ You can access it offline, use advance searches etc.. but I think I’m wrong for getting additional sites. My apologies. The + version is €9.99 per year though. But I’ll definitely explore different options. Relying on p4n only clearly isn’t working for me/us Edit - your comments are still visible to me. Not sure what’s going on. But I’ve had this happen to me too in the past
So sorry the park up we recommended turned out to be no good, we didn't hear a peep when we were there 😆 the pizza looked great 🌻looking forward to seeing more of your adventures
Laura thought she wasn’t going g to be able to leave to get to work the next day. I thought that was hilarious much to Laura’s disgust. Maybe we’ll try it again when we are both off 😂 Yes the pizza was amazing, would definitely recommend trying it
Search for sites is also good and a fraction of ybe price
Thank you. I’ve just downloaded it now so we can use it for the next time we go out in the van. Thank you 😀
Good luck with your van :)

Well done Dad
I'm so grateful for everything he does for us. Not just fixing the van (I just tried to keep this video van related). But for everything else too. Even for just for being there to have someone to chat to about rubbish to after we've both had a long day at work. I'd be lost without him.

A very impressive display
It was an amazing display. #sela did an amazing job. They made a lot of geordies (& toon army fans around the world) happy with the show.
This is from sela and Newcastle united owners...to appreciate our fans. Absolutely fantastic...
You’re 100% correct, it was absolutely fantastic. And so are the fans 🖤🤍
Outstanding
How much would something like that cost to make.
Way more than I’ll ever have in the bank 😂
@@ourvan.ourway was just interested to see if anyone knew.
At a guess I’m gonna say £100k at least, if not way more.
@@ourvan.ourway A whole LOT more... the projectors cost about £25,000 per day to rent them (there were at least 4 projectors, at least 1 on the main building, plus 1 for each of the pontoons) then you've also got the pontoons, the spotlights, etc... easily at least £150,000+ per day The animation footage to be projected would have to have been filmed, produced, 3D generated... looking at about £200,000+ for that You then have the event, the security, police, river rescue, etc... that's probably around another 100k In all.... I reckon well over 500k and probably closer to £1million For Sela, who are probably the biggest events management company in the world, it would have all been done in-house and would be seen as a marketing excercise to them
Amazing!!!
It absolutely was. I nearly didn’t go either. But I’m so glad i did
Goosebumps.
It was absolutely unreal to watch it
Will it be on again
I don’t believe so. It was hosted by Sela & last year they done a one-off mini drone light show. This year they had this show & it was unreal. There was thousands & thousands of people there
That dig at scumderland, inclusion of women's team and display of sign language just melts my heart
It was an amazing show
Thanks for the info. Would you add pictures of the items you are talking about, next time? That would be super helpful.
Hi there. We plan on doing a short to accompany this video where we’ll have photos of the items. Just since we didn’t include them in this one, we’ll make sure they go on the short once we make it. We’re just a little pushed for time at the minute, so we don’t quite know when that’ll be. Thanks
I’ve managed to speak to someone regarding solar and apparently most solar panels will charge it with the right adapter they recommend 200w
Hi @cliffwalker3117 was it someone from Halfords you spoke to? Or another person who owns the fridge? That’s interesting to hear, though 200w is a lot of power in my opinion. Especially since the fridges don’t use a lot of power generally to run.
Someone from customer service
How long does the battery last
Hi @cliffwalker3117 Though we’ve not relied exclusively on the battery yet, it does claim that the battery can last upto 8 hours on eco mode. Hopefully this helps. Thanks
I’ve not got any instructions how do you put it on eco mode
