Please note the nuts on the solenoid points have a metric M5 thread but require a 3/8ths spanner. Could get one of them undone so had to buy more...

This shows how to change the aircon and alternator belts on a 1HDFTE engine. Alternator is quite difficult to figure out so thought I'd post a video after finally working it out for myself!

    Hey m8 do you think I need to take the fan out just to do the alternator?

    Nice video Mark, shows pretty clearly where everything is. The alternator belt adjusting job is not too bad if you have the appropriate tools. It is easiest done from underneath the vehicle. Removing the bash plate: 8 12mm bolts. (for novices) Remove the 2 outer 12mm bolts from the front of the plate. Loosen the centre front bolt several turns. Remove the two side bolts from the plate. Remove the two outer bolts from the rear of the plate. Carefully remove the centre rear bolt (the recessed one) while supporting the weight of the plate, which should be now resting on the top of the second bash plate. While supporting the plate, finish undoing the centre front bolt, then slide the plate forward a few mm, and lower the plate to the ground. Adjusting the alternator belts: Use a 14mm ring spanner to loosen the alternator pivot bolt half a turn. Use a 3/8" drive 12 mm socket with a 50mm extension to loosen the top locking bolt half a turn. Alternatively, an 12mm curved (interference) ring spanner works) Use a 12mm ratchet ring spanner on the adjusting bolt. When belts are tensioned correctly, tighten the pivot bolt, then tighten the top locking bolt, then tighten the adjusting bolt so it doesn't back out and get lost. The whole job is about 45 leisurely minutes. Enjoy 🙂

    I tried to figure out what you did with the 3 strand wire and where the heavy read wire came into play. Could you explain how you hooked up to a switch. Thanks

    • @markpowell5560
      @markpowell5560 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ian H the heavy red wire was used just to demonstrate that the act of plugging in the remote control lead completes the earth. I had two wires twisted together that was the power and the “wind in” function - completing the earth was what made it actually start winding. It’s not used as part of my setup. So I have a switch that completes the earth, and then a rocker switch that performs the in/out function by routing the power to the winding direction of choice (see switch panel at the end of the video)

      Could you please tell me which colors are your earth, which is winch in and winch out and power please. I plan on using a plug in that socket and cutting the other end off which is where I would splice my wires from going to an in cab switch. I'm doing it this way because I can't reach the solenoid. If I understand your video correctly, there are 2 wires that need to be grounded while the remaining 3 is power, winch in and winch out . I have the same colors and 6 pin key hole as you..

      Patriot- no problems at all. Although they squeak a little when first taking off in the morning - otherwise have since done the Simmo, Oodnadatta Track, Stryzelecki Track, bunch of high country work and they’ve been great
