    Whoa you guys killed it!!!! Amazing video, incredible ride. Still can't believe you did that in 5 days. Well done. Looks like so much fun. Hopefully we can do that ride some day as well! Thanks for sharing. J & T (DEN - MSP FAs) Ps we also live in the Denver area!

      Thanks so much! It’s a great ride and you should totally do it if you can swing it. 5 days was honestly too fast. 7 or 8 would have been better and allowed more exploring along the way. Maybe we’ll run into y’all one of these days around Denver.

    Yours was the best video I've seen yet about this route. I appreciate how you showed the road conditions and food. How did you book your hotels and did you need to rely on a road app for directions or can you just rely on the signage?

      Thank you! My sister-in-law is Korean, so she helped us out with all the hotel/AirBnB arrangements. We used Kaokao maps (the Korean equivalent of Google maps) and this website for navigating: www.koreabybike.com/routes/cross-country-route/

    I have completed every bike path in Korea. Of course I'm Korean. I will give you some tips for those who want to ride in Korea. The bicycle path shown in the video is the bicycle path that connects Seoul to Busan. However, there are many other bike paths in Korea. Among them, the Seomjin River bike path has the best scenery. Recommended for 2 days and 1 night. I also recommend the Jeju Island fantastic bike path along the sea road. Since you have to go by plane or ship, plan for 3 days and 2 nights. Bicycle rental is available on Jeju Island. When you arrive at the airport, the bike shop will pick you up. Then, you can leave your unnecessary luggage at the shop, rent a bicycle, go on a bicycle trip for a few days, and then return the bicycle. The bike path in East Coast/Gyeongsangbuk-do is hilly. It's better to plan for 2 nights and 3 days or 3 nights and 4 days because it gives you more time. If you don't like hilly roads, you can just ride the northern section from Goseong to Gangneung for 2 days and 1 night. When traveling by bike in Korea, you can keep your luggage to a minimum. All you need to do is pack a few changes of clothes. All you need is a credit card and all accommodations and meals are covered. Hotels along the bike path are of several levels. Among the hotels, love hotels are low-cost hotels and are not preferred by Korean travelers. If possible, we recommend a hotel that appears to have been recently built. Rooms usually accommodate two people. You can choose between a double bed or two single beds. You can get a clean room for around 70,000 to 100,000 won in Korean currency on weekdays, not weekends. Prices are more expensive on weekends. It consists of a room and a bathroom with toilet. Breakfast is usually not provided. I recommend purchasing simple food for breakfast at a convenience store near the hotel the evening before. There are many restaurants along the bike path. Of course, there are many coffee and brunch places. There are also many convenience stores. Convenience stores sell everything you need for travel, including food, water, and beverages, including toiletries, batteries, and rain gear. If an emergency occurs during your trip and you injure yourself, dial 119 and ask for help. The fire department and rescue team will help you right away. There is no cost. They will take you by ambulance to the nearest hospital. Don't worry about security. There is very little chance that a crime will occur. It is safe enough for women to travel alone by bicycle. Of course, it is safe enough to eat at a restaurant or go for a walk alone at night. If you have the chance, try cycling in Korea. It will be a good experience.

    that's so awesome there's bike trails on the 4 rivers. definitely have to visit south korea one day and ride it. Last time I flew to Taiwan, we had a connecting flight in South korea and the Incheon airport was spotless. A complete contrast to JFK airport in NY, which was disgustingly dirty. my daily ride in MA is littered with trash.

    Great video! We are considering this trail as our niece is going to South Korea for a year to teach English and we would like to head over and visit her. We first heard about this trail from a South Korean that we met bicycling on the Gopher Trail in Wisconsin, he was at the University of Wisconsin working on an MBA. Which month did you ride? It looks like you hit beautiful weather.

      I hope you get to go and visit your niece! South Korea is a wonderful country with wonderful people. Seoul is the most incredible city I've ever been to so far in my life. We rode the trail in early September, and honestly really lucked out with the weather. It was supposed to rain the last three days, and that rain just never materialized.

    Amazing vid! Much appreciated eh. My partner and I have committed to this for the fall. Curious about what you'd recommend on a few things. -How were the sleeping accommodations? Any issue with the bikes at all? -How was the water accessibility like? Was there an easy place to buy/fill if possible? -Any other takeaways or tips for food? -Anything else you'd want to share that was underrated/ to avoid along the way? Cheers!!

    • @lfinney
      @lfinney ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it! - All our accommodations were great. We stayed in hotels every night except for one, which was an AirBnB. Compared to the prices for similar accommodations in the U.S., they were significantly cheaper. As far as bikes go, each place was willing to work with us to find a place to store our bikes. It was a stairwell at the AirBnB, the lobbies of two of the hotels, one hotel had a bike-specific storage area on the floor we stayed at, and our final hotel took them to a storage room. It's worth mentioning that South Korea is a notably safe country, and we were never worried about leaving our bikes in anywhere. - Water accessibility was not a problem at all. Towns are frequent along the route, and there are convenience stores and drinking fountains a plenty. - We spared no expenses when it came to food, and I'd encourage you all to do the same! South Korean food is simply put: amazing. Cold noodles and dumplings were my personal favorite for lunch, and if you can track down a Dak Galbi (Spicy stir-fried chicken) spot for dinner you won't be sad. Be sure to add cheese if you're so inclined. We only brought enough "bike snacks" to last about a day, and then were snacking on whatever the convenience stores had. If you want true biking snacks make sure to pack accordingly. - Breakfast can be tricky if you want an early start. There aren't really early morning breakfast spots out there compared to what we are used to in the U.S. One of our hotels had an early breakfast, and another hotel had a nearby Paris Baguette, which did open early. Other than that we bought food the night before to eat before riding each day. - We rode three 80+ mile days, and if I could do it again I would try to keep each day closer to 60 miles or less. It was just a lot of saddle time on those days, and we didn't really get to explore the cities we ended up in as much as I would have liked. - The one thing I wish we would have known about in advance is that there are hot springs along the route in Suanbo. It would have made a great place to stop for a day and relax, but we didn't know they were there until we rode right through them. - This website has great info about all the bike paths, including elevation profiles for each section: www.koreabybike.com/
