@@Achievable Thank you for your response! But I see things like bankruptcy, judgement etc.....Do these and similar things need to be disclosed by a self proprietor who wants to be registered as both IA and IAR if they are more than ten years? Many thanks!

Hi, thanks for your comment! There's a huge amount of natural randomness in these exams, since you're only asked ~75 questions from a pool of thousands. Although the math is generally high-level, some people do report seeing 10+ math questions, so it's important to master these topics too!

When we talk about "long" and "short" in this context, it means whether the investor has bought ("is long") shares or sold ("is short") shares - it's not related to the time period. There is more risk in short selling, so the minimum margin requirement is higher at 30% for short positions than the 25% for long positions. The equations are basically the same regardless of whether you work with preferred stock or bonds! Just be careful to note whether you are finding the parity price of the preferred/bond or the resulting common stock - I believe that's where your confusion comes from. It might help to run through the examples in our chapters for convertible preferred stock (app.achievable.me/study/finra-series-7/learn/preferred-stock-features-convertible) and convertible bonds (app.achievable.me/study/finra-series-7/learn/corporate-debt-products-convertible-bonds).

Thanks for your feedback - this is a complex topic! Rather than thinking of it as a hypothetical situation, think of it as two specific events: step 1 (current) and step 2 (in the future). Although you need to handle these "what if" situations for the exam, when you rephrase them with concrete numbers it gets a bit simpler~
