Bucherer ETA-2630 1970s (chronometer - COSC Standards)
The Bucherer watch, Calibre ETA 2630, arrived for service due to poor timekeeping. I have conducted a thorough professional service, examining all the watch parts carefully. We hand-cleaned each component and placed them in a professional Elma cleaning machine. Some parts were also cleaned using Bergeon B-Dip and then treated with Epilame to enhance the watch's longevity. We applied the appropriate amount of Moebius oil and grease.
One week after the service, the watch's timekeeping was maintained within the COSC range, It impressively shows a timekeeping accuracy between -2.2 and +1.1, tested at all six positions, with an average of -0.4 seconds per day. which is impressive for a 55 year old timepiece. This watch is now protected from wear and tear and is guaranteed to remain in the COSC range for the next five years.
This is the most accurate ETA movement I have encountered to date, I think, I could be wrong. It is particularly noteworthy that a timepiece nearly 55 years old continues to meet the strict standards set by COSC which is -4.0 to +5.0.
My understanding is that the ETA 2630 caliber is underrated and there isn't much information available about it. It seems that only the Bucherer brand equipped with the ETA 2630 calibre is officially tested and certified by the Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute. No wonder these Bucherer watches with the ETA 2630 caliber are priced at nearly £1,000.
Impressive!

I have forgotten to add more detailed descriptions in the video. The hairspring was so badly deformed. the inner coil was bent and the terminal was bent at a 90 degree angle, I believe the amatuer slipped his screwdriver into the hairspring and totally mess it up the hairspring original shape. Sadly, 50% of repairing work was not being filmed under a microscope, and the reason of that I was usi...

How easy did the crystal go back in? I’m going to be working on one of these at some point and my concern is that I won’t be able to get it in and out without cracking it.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.
Where can I find the Witschi chronoscope? They selling for 10K, is there any cheaper Swiss witschi that you can recommend
Indeed, Witschi timegraphers are expensive. If you're looking for a more budget friendly option, I would recommend searching for the Witschi Expert 1 or 2 models, as they are still available and are reliable tools. However, if you plan to become a full time accredited for certain watch brands in the near future, such as Omega or Rolex and ect, you will need a more recent Witschi timegrapher, like the one I own. While the Witschi Expert 3 may be acceptable to Omega, any older models will not be accepted. This is an important consideration to keep in mind. I hope this information is helpful.
Tolle Ergebnisse für Vintage-ETA! Ich binbeeindruckt.
Danke!
Almost put Rolex into their shame.
Rolex and Bucherer were previously partners before Bucherer became independent. On August 24th, 2024, Rolex acquired Bucherer.
I'm impress eta movement is somewhat more accurate or on the same level as Rolex modern watches, and rolex is supposed to be most accurate watches on the market?. I don't think i have seen this accurate on the eta movement before. surprise me to be honest.
Yes and no; it depends. This specific ETA calibre is performing better than I expected. However, generally, Rolex accuracy falls within the range of -2.0 to +2.0 seconds per day, or 0.0 to +2.0 seconds per day most of the time. Ultimately, it boils down to the condition of the component parts (wear and tear) and, more importantly, the watchmaker's skill. Proper service techniques, especially when it comes to oiling points with the correct quantity and quality, are crucial. If done correctly, you can achieve excellent accuracy, as demonstrated in this video. I don’t consider Rolex to be the most accurate timekeeper on the market. In my opinion, the most accurate timepieces are the Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean and Aqua Terra. I have serviced many of these watches, and the best results I’ve achieved are between +0.6 to +1.1 seconds across all six positions, thanks to the co-axial escapement and particularly the silicon hairspring used by Omega. Ultimately, the level of accuracy attained depends on the watchmaker or technician's dedication to achieving these results. Most technicians don't strive for this; they simply service the watch without checking or replacing parts, and often oil the components with too much or too little lubrication. They may also skip the correct procedures for oiling the pallet fork jewel and fail to make fine-tune adjustments after a week. It really depends on how much you are willing to pay for the quality of service.

@@PherLee-g9n ...and your point is?
OK, so ive broken it. Where can I find a replacement
My hair spring got loose from where you but a little stud.
May i know what kind of lathe are you using. I would like to buy one. Any suggestion? TQ.
Hello Mind you, I have three different lathes for various jobs. If you want the specific one shown in this video, The lathe I used is Pultra 10 (8mm) They are great for medium to small work. I do recommend it. I hope this helps.
Thanks for this tips . I broke a similar canon pignon on a german caliber and it is dificult to buy one.
Thanks. Previously I thought the sencond wheel is the cannon pinion wheel.

nice trick!
@@costantinoproietti7578 Thank you, I hope it will be useful for you in the future.
Thank you for making my day! Very informative and inspirational. Keep it up.
Nice work. Next one would be nice to hear you describe your tweaking moves, which i know can be hard to do and very repetitive.
You make it look so easy. I always make things worse instead of better when I try to fix a hairspring.
that was cool
Hello, can i ask you, which camera do you use for video ? İs it microscope camera?
Hello For filming hairspring and lathe work. I used Andonstar AD09 Microscope. It's good equipment but I don't use it anymore. It was temporarily used at home work during the COVID-19. I use Durston Professional Jewellers Microscope in my workshop. I hope this helps.
@@watchmakerspecial516yes it helped thank you so much, have a nice work👍😊
nice, I got a AS 1903 movement to do that but went a few seconds either way when I did it in other poisons I am a hobbyist tinkerer though but great stuff all the same
Sounds like you did alright. Well done.
That talking in the background is utter crap.....nice work on balance spring
Nice! Amazed at your ability to reform a spring while it’s still in place and between the pins, pretty sure it would end badly if I tried that.
Thank you. I still remember many years of practice in 2005 or 2006 when I first started adjusting hairspring, Now it's a muscle memory to me but I was concerned about using shoddy homemade tools when dealing with a mainspring. I didn't have a proper tool at that time. I'm just happy that I got a good result in the end.
That little box looks like it once housed a wheel cutter. Where do you get hairsprings from?
I got it from a retired watchmaker. That was 15 or 20 years ago when he gave it to me. Now I'm running on low with hairsprings. Thanks.
@@watchmakerspecial516 If you find a new supplier, please post it here :)
Wow what a great video! very comprehensive and the motivational speaking to music had me chest thumping my way to this Vostok hairspring repair!! Thankyou so much. BTW where did you get the speeches from?

I would also like to see the accuracy of the move on the pibor in 6 positions
Sorry but forgive me, I don't know what you mean by that? What is Pibor? I google search it and doesn't explain anything. I assume the language barrier was misunderstood between us.
the device is a time grapher I saw it at the end of the video good work@@watchmakerspecial516
@@watchmakerspecial516I believe he misspelled pivot
@@fjongo1 Thank you.
No burnishing of the pivot?
Hello, Thank you for watching. Yes, I did burnish and polish the pivot to create resistance to wear over time You may have missed the description in the video that I mentioned that there is no video of me doing burnish and polish but I did it off the camera. Now I wish I had included in this video to be honest. Kind regards
I've got the same watch as this (omega 30t2) and the hairspring was completely destroyed, you mention in the video a overcoil hairspring is impossible to find and you are correct on that, for 6 years, i have not found one watchmaker or even omega accreditor who can repair my omega with new hairspring to make. even omega authorized service centres does not have spare omega hairspring. Would you be willing to repair my omega with a new hairspring like you did in this video? I'm from the US by the way.
Hello Jake Thank you for watching the video, we can help you make a new hairspring. I'm sure we do have it now in stock for the original Omega 30T2 overcoil hairspring. If we don't then we must service your Omega 30T2 calibre first before we make a new hairspring and adjust the timing screws for better timekeeping accuracy. However, it will be at least four to five months of waiting time, due to long backlogs to complete. If you are happy with that, please privately message me for further requires. Thank you.
Hello, you contacted me regarding springs for 30t2. and you sent this link. friend, springs for 30t2 are generally available and cheap, there is no point in making them. the cheapest option is a few pounds, ebay is full of parts for 30t2 and 26x 28x calibres, the spring is the same. In general, the whole balance is the same
@@Karol235 Thanks Karol235 I already sent the email to watchmaker specialist and they did say they have the original omega 30t2 hairspring from a donor watch now. Should be okay now.
@@Karol235 Thank you, do not worry, We have the original spare overcoil hairspring now for the customer. This was done during Covid-19 back in 2021. We didn't have spares at that time and I wasn't able to order one, same for the Fourth wheel and this is why we had to make one instead. Kind regards.
Very good job👍
Thank you, Thanks for your time to watch it. :)
I‘m impressed!
Thank you.
WOW not easy
Certainly wasn't easy. This was during covid 19 lockdown period. So I didn't have the proper tools to do this task.

more relaxing music next time pls.
Hello Thank you, what kind relaxing music you are suggestion? It's hard to please everyone and also the youtube copyright most of the music.
I heavily question your audio choice, but muted it was a great and informative video 😅 love the quality of your microscope shots, and questioning myself if I should get one for my upcoming „fix my own King Seiko mess“ task. Potentially it’s better to invest a few more euros now instead of hunting down a 5626B hair spring later 🥺
Thank you and I appreciate it , In the beginning of my video in the description text duration at 0:13, it will explained why. It's a banter, and not to been taken it seriously. it's called motivational speech. I understand some people like it and some don't like it.
@@watchmakerspecial516 no worries, I originally understood the explanation but it still wasn’t for me. But frankly, videos that would be for everyone would be dramatically boring, so better have some delighted and some unhappy, as everybody unimpressed and underwhelmed. Right? 😁
