it was lovely back in its day, but the local council got too all powerful and controlling and began getting the area into debt that could not be repaid. they also paid more attention to getting rich on property than running the town. the collapse which is coming is well earned.

Emigrated to Australia from Chorley way back in October 1971 when I was 17. Much better lifestyle over here in Brisbane. Don’t miss Chorley in the least and believe we have improved our lives considerably for the better. Australia is a much better country to live in. Thanking my parents for moving us kids here. Having lived in Australia for 49 years now, I am proud to call it my home.

My dad’s side of the family are from Chorley, and I spent many happy times with my grandparents who lived on Butterworth Brow opposite Southlands School. I remember old Chorley before they built the new bus station and Market Walk. I used to love going to that Hampson’s toy shop. There was another great little shop where the bus station is now called Nightingales. It was a hardware store downstairs selling mops, brushes and other household stuff. It used to smell of calor gas because they sold the heaters and the gas bottles. Upstairs though, they sold all the Star Wars and GI Joe figures and toys. My late grandad was a joiner and used to have a little workshop on Duke Street before they built houses there. I remember him taking me to see The Empire Strikes Back and Octopussy at the cinema in your video. Happy days.

Goodness me, that sent a shiver through me as I wasn't expecting to see this. It's hard to imagine that from what was the school at the Old Lamp at Pall Mall came the Normid, quite an iconic structure at the time. This then changed hands to the discount store (the name escapes me!) and then finally to Asda. I'm astounded!

I lived in Chorley briefly as a child in 1969-1970 Chorley was a mgical place then green spaces great park well kept back tio back housing with side alley entrances to the back yard . The place had a village feel and was friendly and warm ...sad to see it now .

Damn this video upsets me, seeing how beautiful Chorley used to be when I was younger and their was never any problems or issues, everyone knew each other and said hello to you, you could spend the whole day out in Chorley town half the time not even shopping but just talking to the locals and everyone being friendly I still wish it was like that now. Chorley as been ruined by the new generation of youngsters who don’t have no respect or discipline. It’s very upsetting to see what Chorley as become. Going down town used to feel like you was going to a theme park. It was beautiful! I used to love going to Hyde’s when I was a little kid, when Hyde’s first opened up. Remembering where the old McDonalds used to be, ah man only if you could go back in time!

Thanks for posting.Brought back some happy memories for me. I worked at Holy Cross between 1982-89 and joined the local violinist to form the Chorley Buskers/Highly Strung who played in and around the area up to around 2008. Always saw it as a great friendly place and great memories of the school where we won tons of trophies in the golden age of Music Festivals. Not to mention playing The Gateway Club,St Peter's Christmas Carol services, Confirmations and Primary Liaison Concerts. Made a few guest appearances since on Chorley FM Folk Show with James Blatchley and still pop in to the town occasionally. Happy days - Oh and of course I was a linesman a few times at Chorley F.C. in my non Music career.

@@stevenfinch9026 Hello Stephen. Always nice to hear from former pupils. Unless my memory is failing I think you were on some of my classroom recordings and possibly in the Video Killed The Radio Star show but it was about 40 years ago and I did encounter thousands of pupils in my teaching days. Talking of those recordings I still have them in my archive folder along with the sleeve notes. We also had a Music Quiz which you may have taken part in. I remembered your name when I read the comment so you have been involved in one of those activities. I'm really pleased you said lessons and not bad jokes. I used humour to teach but when I left various schools it was the humour that stood out and it was teaching Music that really mattered Happy Days indeed. Wishing you every success in all you do.
