There are Thread hubs in Apple, Amazon and google devices. I'm sure the amount of homes with a thread border router in the home is pretty high. Thread adoption is pretty low because manufacturer support is crap. Nanoleaf and Aqara are big, but other companies are lack luster, over priced, or ignoring it. AiDot dropped their one Thread device. Nanoleaf should release a thread smart plug priced in the $10 range like Onvis unlike the $40 range of eve.

Any way to forward two hardware issues I’ve been having with my Nanoleaf products to Gimmy Chu? It’s been a year and I’ve had issues with Nanoleaf triangles and the controller for the Nanoleaf Elements. Nanoleaf customer support is not helpful :/

I wanted to share something I do in situations where I am receiving constant notifications at night due to a HomeKit device going offline and back online constantly. I will occasionally have one camera (Wemo Doorbell Camera) that goes offline and back online a lot throughout the night. Rather than remove from HomeKit and add it back in what I do is I go to my UniFi app and I just block that device from being able to connect to the Internet. To me, it’s more convenient than removing it from HomeKit and then trying to add it back in later so when I wake up in the morning, I just go back to my UniFi app and unblock it from being able to access the Internet and that usually solves it for me until it has its next spaz. I’m sure this will work with all HomeKit devices that are connected over WiFi.

I feel a little confused about whether you have the old version of Ecobee or the new version of Ecobee. I thought you said that you had the old version but then you started talking about the doorbell camera which doesn't work with the old version. I had both versions. The old Ecobee is a very unattractive design in my opinion and I felt very unhappy with the looks even while I owned it. I could never understand why the screen was rectangular while the device was square. I understand about the sensor but I still thought that it was a very bad design. As soon as I heard about the new version, I upgraded immediately. In my opinion, the new Ecobee is absolutely stunningly gorgeous. I absolutely love the new Ecobee thermostat. I'm sure the Nest is also gorgeous and it's probably even more gorgeous than the Ecobee but I am completely satisfied with my Ecobee. I also bought the video doorbell but I was really on the fence with that one. At least it works which is something I can't say about Logitech. The Circle View was off-line more often than online and it's a total piece of garbage in my opinion.

I think I’m gonna stick with Ecobee but good review.

This is a terrible take on sonos. Unacceptable for a tech pundit. Its your job sir to hold these people to account. Ofcourse hes going to answer questions. His tail is on the line. The company is on the line. Its UNACCEPTABLE- for how expensive these products are that have glitches that make them essentially unusable for many people. They should be working 24 hours a day 7 days a week to solve these issues. Their brand is at stake. To chalk it off to atleast the ceo is answering questions is frankly lazy.

I have a question i have 3rd gen thermostat installed. If i get the new 4th gen can i simply disconnect the face of the 3rd and connect the fourth to the same connector???

You can always add your Matter devices to Home assistant and automate with timers and delays in parallel with Apple Home.

Did you irresponsibly throw all your USB-A in the trash? I have Zigbee and Zwave thats 15 to 25 years old now. I love the Sonoff SNZB-06P, its usbC and zigbee3.0 so it works with many zigbee/Matter/homekit bridges.

On the OBD tracker, it says "No Battery Needed: Unlike other trackers that require charging or batteries, this car tracker connects to the vehicle's OBD port to get power, and can still be tracked in the Find My app when the car is turned off.".

Curious how I can accomplish motion activated under cabinet lighting in HomeKit with the cync lights. I know you discussed it with hue and said that you could think of workarounds. I would love to hear it! I’m currently thinking of using Eve motion.

Hey Andrew, do you know why there aren't many Thread smart bulbs available? I want to start replacing my Wi-Fi smart light bulbs with Thread versions.

It makes sense for Apple to allow for a smarter Siri device, without obsoleting existing HomePod Pro, et al, devices. I'm not sure it needs a display.

I really appreciate your review of the IR blaster. However, my problem is that we build large multi storied homes and we use Helix micro-rebar in our concrete. So our slabs and structural walls act as Faraday cages preventing most RF signals to go through. 42:08 To get around this, we endrun a lot of Ethernet outlets and install a Unifi network with multiple access points. This resolves the WiFi problems. Then we install multiple Ethernet connected Apple TVs which brings us Thread all over and sometimes add a few HomePod Minis to fill in weak areas. Our problems are in the distribution of other systems like Lutron Caseta, Philips Hue and IKEA for Sonos control. One extender is simply not enough and only the primary hub has an Ethernet connection . Even greater is the distribution of RF signals for things like rolldown shutters, awnings and pergolas. We’ve tried the Bond Pro, but its range is quite limited. Any help on these subjects would be greatly appreciated!

Man I'm intrigued by the cync lights but their website is really lacking. I want to know how long the extensions are and how to order more, if needed. No info. Also interested in adding a plug and I see something about that on the listing for the dumb version, but no info on the smart page. Or how to order those. Also think it's a bit weird they can be used with the cync app or over Matter, but not both.

I have a Lutron switch for my bathroom fan and when I take a shower I turn it on then when I’m done I tell Siri turn off bathroom fan in 45 minutes. Wish you could just have a shortcut do it automatically like a routine with Alexa but I don’t think that’s possible yet in shortcuts.

I still use the Logitech Harmony Hub with Home Assistant and it is STILL brilliant. I can control everything from any of the dashboards I have around, from my iPhone, Mac, iPad etc. Nothing yet compares but damn you Logitech for tossing in the towel instead of using your tech knowledge to create BETTER smart home devices. :(

I travel a decent amount for trade shows in my industry. One thing I’ve been doing the past few years that has really made a difference in avoiding the “crud” is taking things like airborne beginning no later than one week before the show to help boost my immune system just before. I continue the Airborne throughout the show as well. As soon as I get back I also start taking Zicam at the first sign of any sickness and it’s worked really great for me. **knocks on wood**

$50 a unit for Cync?! I'm doing DIY with ESP32-H2 ($6) a 1m of WS2812 LED strip ($10) and an Aluminum Muzata spotless LED channel (6$) Using Espressif Zerocode I've made them Matter over thread. Replacing IKEA Mittled running off a Tradfri driver paired to my Hue Bridge.

Recent episodes seem to have become QI2 Insider. I used to like this podcast for the HomeKit info, but, very little of the podcast is HomeKit anymore. There’s no need to add filler to the podcast. If there’s on 8 minutes of HomeKit info, then just do an 8 minute podcast.
