Welcome to my channel where I show Art Music and its history (including for the holidays of Easter, Earth Day, Halloween, and Christmas). By Art Music I mean works from classical, opera, ballets, oratorios, symphonies, etc. I include works from Europe, and the USA, although some composers will borrow inspiration from Asia, Africa, and other parts of the world.
History of Christmas Art Music Works By Less Familiar German Opera Composers
Christmas Art Music Works by Less Familiar German Opera Composers: Otto Nicolai (Overture on Lutheran Hymn "From Heaven Above to Earth I Come"), Peter Cornelius (Three Kings), Engelbert Humperdinck (Hansel and Gretel), Hans Pfitzner (Das Christ-Elflein)
Maybe you will recognize these compositions that I, your host, Tristan Andrew, want you to know about because I’m here to educate you on some wonderful Art Music works for the Christmas Season, written by largely overlooked German opera composers. Stay with me and you will see that these composers all wrote operas but they also wrote non-operatic compositions. Enjoy!
Works Covered:
Twelvetide: Nicolai- Overture on Lutheran Hymn "From Heaven Above to Earth I Come (Vom Himmel Hoch)"
Epiphany: Corenlius- Three Kings
Advent: Humperdinck- Overture and Pantomime from Hansel and Gretel
Christmas Eve: Pfitzner- Overture from Das Christ-Elflein

Besucht die Wr. VOLKSOPER, die alte Dönch Inszenierung ist ein Traum ...

the photo gave me reminiscences of cunning pioneers of the Soviet era... (that could be collecting acorns in the enchanted forests of endless Russia for the benefit of Socialist livestock farming) The music however albeit optimistic was rather sad (perhaps the acorns didn't help much) Seriously speaking those Russian early symbolist composers: Skriabin, Stravinsky, Lyadov, Mussorgsky, Rimsky-Korsakov (to name the few) deserve interpretation in cartoon movies. But who will ever dare and finance. Walt Disney is interested no longer ...
Aside from the blackface, absolutely wonderful performance. Big fan of Petrushka and it was amazing seeing the ballet as a film! Truly spectacular
This belongs among the Easter Pieces.
brotherrrrrr this is it, this is my childhood
Grazie a tutti!soprattutto a Puccini
Interesting that this has similarities with “Copelia” from ETA Hoffman story. Use of magic etc
But Petrushka has a religious setting and plot, while Copelia does not.
This is "essential" to listen to.
Nuccia straordinario, la Machaidze oltre che brava, è bella da togliere il fiato.
Enjoyed this very much
This also belongs among the Halloween-Related Pieces of Lyadov.
@@TristanMA that ties in nicely
This photo made me laugh and music made me scared
That belongs among the Halloween-Related Pieces of Lyadov.
Beautiful
I placed this among the works by Respighi for Earth Day.
Intense and a bit scary
This is among the Halloween-related compositions of Anatol Lyadov, a student of Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov.
poster is good and music

After years of Ballet searches on TH-cam, this just came up for me today. What a magnificent masterpiece!
Lovely, and well done Tristan and Bach!
Love and look forward to first-time history of Bach. Thanks Tristan !
Hope you enjoy it!
Heretical
This play is heretical. Why depict this parabole at all if 1, you don't finish it, 2nd, you completely change the scene of the son returning home. Here is that scene from the bible: “But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him."
Какая же классная постановка! Особенно танец Мавра и Балерины🤩
Organ sounds so pretty
They dance barefoot?
Peaceful
An example of Latin Church Holy Minimalism for Christmas.
Aouch
Thanks so much! Best cast NYCB has given us in decades.
👏💐

After Bolshoi theatre looks terrible
Wonderful, but Petrushka sounds twicely better
COMPLETE cast list, please. Who is the baritone singing the "Sprecher"??? And who are the two men in armor?
Awesome ballet and music
Merveilleuse Russie
Such beautiful music with which to start my day...Thank you!
This belongs in a Halloween-Related Playlist.
Bravo, Andrew Davis.
Erika Miklosa❤❤❤❤❤❤
BRAVO 🌹BELLISIMO ❤ GRACIAS 💐
I am curious what painting is that. It looks XIXth century.
Thanks for the upload of this ballet. Wanted to watch and listen this since years before.
08:28 I've recently watched Ms Glurdjidze now couch young students in her own school with a huge passion. It's quite moving to see great dancers continue to pass on their knowledge to new generations after their careers on stage. They are such treasures in the ballet world.
This is so very sweet and lovely!
I placed this among the iconic works of Johann Sebastian Bach for Christmas.
So beautiful. I l❤ve
Not very clever😢
Bill McIver's performance is VERY good here!!
She is amazing
I was in a High School production in 1969 and was in the process of falling in love with singing and certain operas. (No Mozart, please!) I love the unusual harmonies used by Mr. Menotti! ❤
So lovely
At last I see a great depiction of great music. A tremendous production from all aspects. Cannot thank all concerned enough!
