Straight cut drop gears in classic mini clubman through country lanes and Stoke Gabriel
มุมมอง 2.8K5 ปีที่แล้ว
Mini run through country lanes and through Stoke Gabriel in classic mini clubman, demonstrates the noise of straight cut drop gears. Please forgive the bumbling comentry at the beggining and any strange noises I might make whilst driving!
EXACTLY what I am doing today on my 1275. I have the same 1st motion shaft and was going to use a washer on it to prevent the bushing splitting that you showed happens without it. And I put the bearing in the freezer like you did. However, some I hear say that it needs to be soaked in oil for a few days before fitting. Not sure of the point of that as it would probably run out onto the clutch plate. What is your opinion of any lubrication on this bushing? Moly grease? Might stay in place.... THANKS DAVE for a great video!
Thanks for comments. Not fully up on the ins and outs of the bronze bushes, I think that the idea of soaking them is so some of the oil soaks into bronze must be slightly porous to soak some of the oil in, I don't think it would get onto clutch unless you left it dripping, myself I put a bit of standard quality high temp grease on before installing, you can get these bushes oil filled already, link below of what I'm talking about, I found it difficult getting a bronze bush from MG specific shops for 1275 they seemed to want people to go down the steel roller bearing route, so I ended up using the pre soaked one hopefully a good choice, time will tell. I also went from 1/2" length that came out to 5/8" for extra support, hence me checking if fitted ok on the video. simplybearings.co.uk/shop/p120066/AI0812-10-Oil-Filled-Bronze-Plain-Bearing-Bush-1/2x3/4x5/8-inch/product_info.html
WE used to do similar on Fords in the 60's , and other makes and models, good to watch again😊
Brilliant tip👍
You drive like an old lady. Did you get past 2k rpm??
I just use the old seal on top as a drift

Wanna ask a question, did your drop gear make a noisy sound at the clutch box,if you press the clutch pad then the sound gone.. is it your car liked that .. cause my car just finish install straight cut gear and drop gear but I hear that noisy sound at clutch box area so when I press the clutch then the sound gone, means when I didn't press clutch the noisy sound will appear ..
Yes it did make noise around the clutch housing, as that's where the drop gears sit just behind the flywheel. The noise stopped when pressing clutch, when yours is parked up yours will be the same, pressing clutch disengages the drop gears so no noise.
@@daven1639 thanks for replying me bro.. I have installed that drop gear and straight cut gear .. I think that something's go wrong on that clutch housing .. now I understand .. thanks slot ..
One of the best tips ever brilliant 👍
They shouldn’t rattle in neutral clutch disengaged , did you shim the idler gear correctly ? Also free wheeling is quite dangerous !
Ah the good old "Dog Box" as we used to call them, noisy but you could change gear without really needing the clutch, just bang it in, used in the rallies.
Super satisfying sounding straight cut. I'd love to experience this myself.
Which company are the drops from?
These are from Minispares.
Did you make the locking tool or is it available somewhere?
I made this tool myself, but I am selling on ebay at moment www.ebay.co.uk/itm/202715031037 ending 30th june, that's one of the reasons for doing video so you can see how it works.
