Maybe you had to be there, but this is a video (1968) of our trip to Margaretville, NY and our crudely filmed documentary of the city boys go to the country, "Hoods In The Woods."

    Charlie is not only a broadcast LEGEND but a guy a GREAT BIG heart. He DONATED his VO to a friend's ALBUM project that has raised over $30K in sales to support moms in crisis pregnancies keep their baby or give the child up for adoption; saving over 2,750+ innocent lives as of 2024. A TRUE HERO. We attended his funeral. May he rest in glorious peace. Thank you, Charlie.

    I love me some 80s as well as the 60s & 70s but K-Earth basically sucks now. I miss the "old K-Earth" 101 KRTH.

    Thank you so much for posting this tribute. Charlie Tuna was a great DJ and personality. I remember he also announced on Scrabble which Chuck Woolley hosted. It’s such Charlie passed away at only 71. KRLA 1110AM was a great station with, unfortunately a terrible signal. It was great to hear him list all the stations he worked at.

    I remember Charlie Tuna was filling in for some other DJ at K-Earth. That day was when I first heard him. I don't know what time slot he was on, but I mainly listened to Shotgun Tom Kelly and Christina Kelley.

    • @trae2241
      @trae2241 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      K- Earth just isn't the same anymore.😉😉 There's a couple good stations where I live now in Northern Utah but nothing like K-Earth. I listened to K- Earth all the time Shotgun Tom Kelly, Christina kelly, Jim Carson he was the weekday morning host and then I listened on the weekends to Sylvia amorito who also did some fill in work occasionally and Dave Randall also on the weekends and from time to time filled in, as well as Bruce Chandler who was on Sundays. And of course Charlie tuna. I was really little but I remember huggie boy in 97 and Jay coffey. The times have changed and that's coming from someone born straight out of the year 94. Don't get me wrong there's nothing wrong with 80s music but you have to understand " New K Earth" even though I listened online a few times to some of the new personalities it just isn't the same anymore.

    Chuck Woolory always mentioned Charlie's name a lot as the off- camera announcer on his game show Scrabble. Charlie Tuna and Robert W. Morgan were my favorite California Top 40 jocks. Both had great voices and natural impeccable timing.

    He skipped the 6month to year he spent at 1170 KCBQ while he was under a no compete on was it KHJ when he left the 1st time. Lived about a quarter mile away from that blowtorch. Daytimes we got the Q on our telephones, under the sound on XETV, pretty much everywhere KIRK MOORE EL CAJON CA

    • @susanpeters3234
      @susanpeters3234 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kirk Moore I was wondering why he hadn't mentioned KCBQ too! I grew up in SD and totally remember him! (Even though he was only on for short time!)

    • @kirkmoore4515
      @kirkmoore4515 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Susan Peters When he was at the Q he was still living at his house in Tarzana & commuting 200plus miles a day to Santee, just waiting for the non complete clause in his KHJ contract to expire.

    • @kirkmoore4515
      @kirkmoore4515 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Susan Peters I could be wrong about the non claus being at KHJ. The non claus could have been from his time at K100

    • @kirkmoore4515
      @kirkmoore4515 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Susan Peters A non complete clause is put into a person's contract so if they leave they can't take their audience with them to a new job. When Conan took the 40 million dollar buyout from NBC he couldn't go straight over to a competitor for 6 months. That's why he did that summer long stand up comedy tour before he started at TBS. Charlie had a similar situation LA. That's why we were lucky to get him down here for 6 month

    • @susanpeters3234
      @susanpeters3234 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kirk Moore Wow ....he commuted to the Santee studios! Thank you so much for this information! Even though only aT KCBQ for a short time, he was still part of my "teenagerhood" . I knew what a non compete is because I just retired as a TV Anchor last year (after 30 some years!)

    Thanks for posting this interview, tribute to the great Charlie Tuna...I remember listening to him back in the 70's when he was a mornings on Los Angeles radio..I can remember when he would do these really funny like long distance wake up calls...some of those were hilarious I would laugh so hard...but let me say thanks again and most importantly showing us long time back listeners the face to the great voice...and he was an indirect mentor to my start in radio broadcasting , where I began my stuff back in the mid Se7enties here in Albuquerque N.M. ..til 1980. then got married moved to Boston working in EMS.,moved back to Albuquerque in 86...and by 93 I was back on the air in Albuquerque radio doing weekend stuff on air for stations like KAMX ( Mix) 107.9...then KHTZ 100.3 fm in Albuquerque then Magic 99.5 fm KMGA..radio and Arrow 102.5 fm and finished my on air weekend stuff with 99.5 MAGIC FM. .And yes the on air radio work is fun...Happy Holidays to all of you guys there in Los Angeles And especially you sir Charlie Tuna..
