I would swim in the Hoxton/Upper St part of that polluted canal as a kid in 70's/80's.. The smell of the glue factory along there boiling horse bones would cling to your nostrils hours after you went home. From bodies to German UXB's to grenades being found, the was always something going on. Then they dredged it 2-3 times since and transformed the old factories into homes. Funniest memory ! My dad was a glazier and paid to replace the lower windows on the old factory on the right of Pakington bridge. We would go down there a few weeks later and smash the windows again.

My walk home is the Regents Canal from Hoxton all the way down to Limehouse Basin, across to Canary Wharf, the Hilton Ferry Crosser to Rotherhithe and then the Thames path walk all the way to London Bridge. The Regents Canal is a highly recommended walk if you've got time to do it end to end from Paddington Basin where it joins the Grand Union, all the way to Limehouse Basin where it joins the River Thames. Hidden Gems. The spur after Victoria Park to Stratford is the beginning of the Hertford Union Canal.
