Cutting a HUGE 100 carat rough into a Planet Earth Opal!
How come you´re digging there just like that? It´s illegal, but I suppose this is the experiential mining action from Moldavite museum?
You meant 50,00 USD OPAL perhaps.
In der Farbe und mit dem Muster , sind Opale nicht so teuer , so kleine schonmal gar nicht . 😢
jesus, put it on a dop
Welo opal 5k. Noooo you got ripped off hard. Australian opal or brazilian opal for that price yes but im sorry not welo. Does not matter how big welo opal is that piece is a MAX $30 $50 on its absolute best day. Also be carefull buying welo as most is treated. 99.9% of black welo is smoke treated to make it turn black. If you plan on keeping this opal dont let it "dry out" or have in exposed heat it will crack and even shatter. Every few months place it in water for a day to keep it stable. You will also notice when you soak it in water the colours will disapear. The colours will come back when it has been out of the water for atleast 30min . Just a heads up from one opal fanatic to another.
Where did you get that price? Ethiopian opal. Maybe if it were Autealian opal but it is from Ethiopia and costs $1 per gram 😂😂😂😂😂
I want that so badly! Would of had the rough aswell! How do i get my hands on something like this? And whats a fair price?
It depends what you mean by fair price. Cut and ready to be mounted, 20-50 USD per ct. In the rough, much less. It depends on how lucky you get. 1 to 5 USD per ct. If bought in very large quantities, much less.
@camansega You answered my question straight off thank you 😁🙏🏻 Was speaking about rough I'd prefer but either one I'm not picky! 😻
It might be time to invest in a dedicated polishing wheel, bc that flat spot that developed (prior to nuking the opal) seemed like it was caused by the cerium oxide disk. All-in-one cabbing machines are awesome, but there’s a much higher risk of the c.o. disk getting contaminated with grit or silica bits when it’s in such close proximity to the rest of your workflow.
Well now you have, more, smaller stones. I hate handling stones that are polished on all sides, after the fact. But I also hate dopping ethiopian because I usually get chips when removing them. That was a beautiful stone. I really love watching Welo absorb water. It completely changes the look of the stone. In many ways, I like it more when it is full of water.
I totally agree! if you look at the stone when it was wet it was so yellow and had tons of sparkle throughout. Once it dried for 24 hours it wasn't nearly as special. I chip them often, either removing from the dop stick or just straight up dropping them on the ground. It really pays dividends to have a rug under your work bench.... I'm going to have to get a piece of scrap rug and through it under.
When it absorbs water does it do this weird clear like border? (I'm really really new to opal) And I always see it when water touches the opal but I've been told I'm not right also I've got some Australian and Ethiopian and I can pull them out my jewellery box and they're clear! Then after an hour or so of wearing them they go back to their milky colour they were originally!!
Bummer, but lol 5k.. no.
That is most definitely not a $5000 stone nor had it the potential to be one 😂
I dont know, there are some out there who could be conned into paying that. See: Cruise Ship passenger.
@@ThatOpalGuy 🤣 pirates
Is this ethiopian opal?
ethiopians just sell them indans are the ones who treat them , we dont even know how to and no resources to treat or cab in the country, i am opal exporter, i know almost everyone in the business here trust me when i tell you we do not treat it here in ethiopia
No worries my friend. I love Ethiopian opals and it is easy to identify a dyed or heated stone
Beautiful gem. I sure wish I could do this.
Thank you Michael. You can do it as well. Before I had any equipment I used sandpaper. Then I got a knife sharpening wheel from Amazon for $85, then a dremel
Gratulation to the wonderful gem 🌈💎🌈. I also have been cutting dark based welo opal recently. To me it seams that the dark based welo opal is even more heat sensitive than normal welo opal. What are your experiences?
Thank you! I didn't notice the heat but this wasn't such a large piece and I was using cold water. I have some much larger 'black' opals from the Stayish mine I'm going to cut next so let's see if they heat up.
@@LuxuryOpalsEuropeI was referring to the heat up during polishing with cerium oxide. Sometimes the mixture of water and cerium oxide gets a little dense and therefore the transfer of heat which builds up during polishing is not fast enough transfered from the opal. I really had an eye on it to keep the mixture thin and watery, but after rubbing by hand with a leather cloth some lines are showing up. These lines do remind me of how welo opal looks like when it has gotten too hot during polishing. I will also try with another perhaps the lines where a part of this opal and I just overlooked them before cutting.
Yes! This did happen to me with Cerium Oxide! I had to wet the wheel
well done, man! those were some big decisions you had to make
Thank you! It was easy once the camel stopped running 😉
Great video! And great stone!!
Thank you so much 🥰
@LuxuryOpalsEurope your welcome 🤗 thank you for the great watch!!

Wonderful combination 🌈💎🌈
Thank you souch
Those colors are wicked!
Been keeping an eye on Ethiopian opal for years, but I don’t think I’ve seen a legit Stayish opal for sale/auction. They’re always what looks identical to smoke treated Welo opal being erroneously passed off as Stayish. Also, do you cut your Welo/Wallo opal wet? If so, what percentage would you say permanently changes to opaque white body tone?
I would be hesitant to wear a ring made from this stone. A pendant would be much less likely to be smacked on a hard surface. Great results, wicked gem!
@@ThatOpalGuy thank you! I was thinking this type of ring would be good in a fight 😆🤣
Looks like a natural bullet 😊
Fantastic cutting. Loved seeing you using the cabking too .I also subbed
Thanks so much! 😊
Opal is a gamble every step of the way. Choosing a mining site, how much equipment to buy, choosing on whether to sell the rough now bc eating food and having a place to live is fun or whether you keep the rough for a rainy day to try and get a better price. Then there’s the gamble of buying rough, cutting it, and fingers crossed cracks/crazing don’t develop after it’s been sitting in your drawer for 6 months. Finally selling the finished pieces. A person would have to be nuts to deal with opal, but it’s absolutely worth it bc there’s just nothing else like opal.
Agreed!
Perfect for addicts hahah
I’m sorry, but am I the only one that says……no…..just…no..? They don’t go together but that’s only my opinion. Maybe it’s the shape, the colors, IDK, but definitely not something I’d want. Sorry.
Hello, thanks for the feedback. It’s tough to know what will work until it’s tried. What do you think about these colors in these next pieces? (In the comment below)

Awesome vid. Do you have a website where can buy some of your Moldavite?

Awesome gem!!
Sweet! The colors you revealed were amazing! Like lightning bolts of color.
Thank you sir!
Great result! thanks for sharing.
Appreciate it! was pretty satisfied with how this stone turned out
I always enjoy watching and learning. Thank you for sharing your knowledge... It's great you used the UV resin.. I've wondered about that before. I'm still practicing with inexpensive Opal, but I'll have better someday. Your Opal turned out great! It's so beautiful...
That’s really cool of you to say, thank you
What can I do? for modavite stone.
Hello, you can go to my website: www.luxuryopalseurope.eu
great flashes.
But those Ethiopian stones are unstable crap so buy Aussie
Hi, I love all opals. Most opals are from 5 - 6.5 on Moh's Hardness Scale. The hardest are from Brazil, followed by Mintabie in Australia. However, in my experience Ethiopian opals have the same stability as Australian opals. They both chip and fracture quite often which is why perfect opals are so valuable.
Do you sell the stones in your videos?
Hi, sure you can buy this piece or any other at our website LuxuryOpalsEurope.EU
Your voice is very calming.
Hi, Thanks very much 😄
These are good for learning how to do it.
Thank you
What is the place at the end?
Hello, That is Prague Castle, the largest castle complex in the world.
Nice one mate
Thank you
Good job but put some lights on your cutting wheels.
Hello, ok I'll add more lights for the next video. I'm outside using natural light right now.
Can I get a what what! Stellar piece.
Thank you
How long did this polishing take from start to finish?
Hi! The entire process took 3 hours.
I enjoy your videos of the Welo stones from Africa.
Hello, thank you, I also love Ethiopian opals! Pure gem crystal with no potch at all.
Are you wearing any special protective equipment when you do this? I don't see any gloves so do you cut yourself?
Hi! Yes, I often grind my own nails off or take small chunks of thumb off. My nails are always shiny now from the wheels 🤣
Is it possible to buy this gem? I love it!
Hi! Yes, you can buy this and all our stones @ LuxuryOpalsEurope.EU or at our shop on OpalAuctions.com
You should've made it a drop shape. Use your head, look at what you have, and walk away to think what is best. With the way it broke, you could've had the perfect drop shape. Get rid of the clear section, use the pointy part for reference. You would've saved a lot more of a stunning stone that way.
Good point Samantha. Every cut is a learning process
