Still happy with it? I'm considering this. However, I also want to move the exhaust higher up.
Have you done any transmission work? I have a donor bike for a mysterious issue. Slips out of second. Who knows, it's a 25 year old Honda SuperHawk.
Mine was fine but had it apart. It’s a lot of work to brake the case apart but is always a good learning opportunity. It could be a number of issues. I have not had to deal with that issue.
Which welder model did you use? Thanks.
It was a smaller Lincoln mig
Nice bike, mine is a VN800B, how’d you mount your front turn signals to your handlebar?
They were mounted like that when I bought it. I sold the bike so can’t check them.
That's a 4 liter ultrasonic cleaner and ultra sonic is not holy. Check the yet holes afterwards...always bolt the aluminium bottomplate to the carbs otherwise it will not go on. Watch out to install the right size carburateur jets. They different size for the front (1-3) and back (2-4) cilinders.
Thanks for your advice. I appreciate it.
Good you’re ok bud.
Thank you.
any issues with heat right there? Did you have to change that brake lever adjustment bolt to get the extra space too? I'm in the same spot but I'm a little concerned about heat from the exhaust affecting brake fluid and the extra "down" angle the brake pedal would be at.
No it’s hasn’t effected it at all. My boot will rub on the exhaust a little and leave a little black mark but it hasn’t melted my boot or anything. It’s been a game changer on the bike. It’s not a touring bike now but I can enjoy riding it all day without hurting.
@@dschloe good to know! Thanks
Great job. Did you ever have any leaks from the fuel pump? I just refitted mine and wondered if any sealant was needed on the seal. Thanks!
I didn't use any sealant and did not have any leaks.Mine wasn't very old so the seal was still like new.
Can you provide type of jack and part number
The one I use has been discontinued but this one looks exactly the same. www.harborfreight.com/automotive/jacks-jack-stands/bottle-jacks/12-ton-airhydraulic-bottle-jack-59425.html
Hi David, very helpfull video. I am not very experianced but managed to replace my leaking piston quit easy having your video playing while I executed. Many thanks!
That’s awesome!!! Thanks for sharing that. Glad it was helpful. Thanks for watching
Which way, and how did you orient the spring prior to fully reassembling the clutch?
Thanks for watching. Hopefully this will help you. www.google.com/search?q=1972+honda+ct90+clutch+spring+diagram&sca_esv=78e8e2d48801db3b&sca_upv=1&rlz=1CDGOYI_enUS739US887&hl=en-US&sxsrf=ADLYWILjz_c3QMYSDGvUcpbEonZXuwNRoA%3A1726400671191&ei=n8jmZs-qC7bV5NoPsKLbkQU&oq=1972+honda+ct90+clutch+spring+di&gs_lp=EhNtb2JpbGUtZ3dzLXdpei1zZXJwIiAxOTcyIGhvbmRhIGN0OTAgY2x1dGNoIHNwcmluZyBkaSoCCAAyBRAhGKABMgUQIRigATIFECEYoAEyBRAhGKABMgUQIRigAUjsWFCJFViNSnACeAGQAQCYAWmgAY4JqgEDOS4zuAEByAEA-AEBmAIOoALGCcICChAAGLADGNYEGEfCAgQQIxgnwgIFECEYqwLCAgUQIRifBZgDAIgGAZAGBpIHAzcuN6AHrWM&sclient=mobile-gws-wiz-serp#vhid=jADkEzaNpbr6JM&vssid=l
I just had another rider turn into me. Really fkd up my bike. Three big dents. I'm sick. I'm buying a new tank.
Oh man sorry to hear that hope you’re ok.
any chance of seeing the process on the Gen 3 with the EFI snafu to be gotten out of the way? I had hoped a video from 5 months ago would be current.
All the videos I do are on my own bikes. If I had one I’d do it. If I have to opportunity to work on one I’ll definitely video it.
You still have the bike?
No. Absolutely loved the bike but I decided to sell it. I will have another one someday.
@@dschloe why'd you end up selling it?
@@Rider.WhiteHorse the bike was such a pretty bike and special I was scared to ride it the way I wanted too. I also wanted something for commuting. I sold it and bought two bikes a Goldwing for commuting and an SV650 for playing.
Could I possibly get the dimensions of your front tire? Mine runs in Reserve but only runs for a minute or 2 in On and then shuts off completely. And it just started doing it. I’m wondering if I picked something up in the tank? Replaced spark plugs and have a ton of sea foam in there with 94 octane but no joy.
I would defiantly check your petcock for a clog. Also check the vacuum line that goes to the petcock for a leak.
Bravo !
Sorry I can’t translate
Question: do I have to remove the whole front cone to replace the mirror bracket that are behind the plastic ? The nipples are missalined (just on the right side), probably was hit be something.
If memory serves me right the three nipples are on a bracket that attaches to the main structure. I’ll try and see if I can check my manual for it.
@@dschloe Thanks. I just picked the bike up and I'm currently sorting through it. I guess when I am in there I should change the air filter, is there anything else you can suggest to repair/fix/replace while I in there?
I just removed my drain bolt and radiator cap and it’s still not flowing out 😢 trying to figure out what to do now
Ok was just a plug In the drain, stuck a small nail up in there and started flowing 👍🏻
You may want to squeeze your hoses. Mine had a suction and would not drain till I removed the cap
Good video, I’m just rebuilding the petcock on mine. Did you have to totally drill the rivets out, and if so, did the replacement screws self tap ok ? I’m sure the straws inside are unfiltered, I can’t see anyway they have any mesh over them otherwise. Odd design really, but 80s bikes I guess ? Thanks for the upload, I’m totally rebuilding the engine on mine at the moment, and need to completely repaint the bike, and have cleaned the tank out, so much to do it’s a mess of a bike, which is a shame, but I’m getting there. Appreciate anything you can offer as tips. Thanks Rich 🇬🇧
Hi Rich, Thanks for watching. It’s been awhile since I did it but yes I’m sure I had to drill the rivet heads off the drill the holes for the self tapping screws. Mine didn’t have any filters either so I put in an inline filter before the carbs. Good luck on your rebuild. Thanks David
@@dschloe I put an endoscope into the tank, it’s just wire mesh covers, so I imagine they do nothing at all.
After this you rebuild it and it work?
Thanks for watching. Yes it runs good. I’m still in the break in period so I haven’t run it too hard yet.
Any luck?
Thanks for watching. She’s running like a champ, after the engine rebuild. If you haven’t seen the other videos please check them out. Will be doing a follow up video after the break in process.
Can you do a video of you putting the carburetor back on the bike? I just bought a 1500 and I think the guy has the carb on wrong
Sorry you’re having issues with your carb. Unfortunately I know longer have the Vulcan but from what I remember it was pretty easy to get back on. You may have to heat it a little with a heat gun or a hair dryer. Just make sure it seats completely.
@@dschloe no I have the carb itself back in, I was mainly talking about the two extra lines, pretty sure ones a vacuum line and the other an overflow vent tube, but because I’m not sure exactly how to hook it up, I can’t get it to run right now
I like these bikes but the high footpeg position is the reason I wouldn't buy one. You can't stretch out on these bikes.
I agree. I rally like the mid size lighter bikes. At 6 foot it was a little cramped. But lowering the pegs and raising the bars made a huge difference. I also added a seat cushion that raised me up a little more too. I’ve ridden it for 5 hours straight and was feeling pretty good afterwards.
I love you Officer k9❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
My dad has a 95 Vulcan that needs new carbs. I wonder if anyone has ever used the Amazon cv carbs
Thanks for watching. I would try everything before going with an aftermarket carb. But it may work fine.
Good video. Is there a need to burn the system of air? I know in cars I used to turn the heater on to get the air bubbles out. Thanks.
Thanks for watching. I just let it run with the cap off until the thermostat opens. I squeeze release the hose to help force the air through
I have the exact same bike, year, colour, mine is all stripped down as presently rebuilding it, engine et al, awesome looking. Mine had a compression issue, white smoke, water in the crank case, being the reason I’m rebuilding the engine, and the tank was like yours. I used citric acid, brought it up nice, after about two weeks, never used any liner as it sprouted no leaks. Carbs are rebuilt, just have the body work to do, as some moron hand painted it terribly, and then onto the forks, breaks, and get the engine back together. Uphill, but lots of fun doing it. I’m in the U.K., these bikes are a little rare here. Yours sounds awesome.
Thank you for watching. Keep cracking at it. Will be worth it when you done. These are great bikes. And yes they sounds amazing
How did you weld it to the bar?
Just used a grinder to take the paint off then mig welder. Use the lift all the time and no issues so far.
Got one need to sell you for parts
Where are you located?
My bike was over heating, so i changed the coolant and thermostat, it ran good for about 45 mins, the over heat light came on, so i pulled over, as soon as i pulled over the light went off, but when i chanhed the coolant i forgot to add some to the reservoir, do you think that could be the cause?
Thank you for watching. It probably the reservoir is but I would check over the bike really well to make sure something isn’t putting stress on the motor. Check, oil, Air filter and make sure the Carburetor is not running rich also. Hope you get sorted out ok.
Thanks for the video! Ive had a 2009 Vulcan classic for almost a month, finally tried it in the highway this weekend , and it maxes out at 70 doesnt want to go anymore i think carb is dirty , bike runs perfect thru street up to 60 no problem
Thanks for watching. Sounds like you definitely have a dirty carb. Give it a good cleaning and check your float level and the needle and seat. Good luck with it and enjoy the bike.
@@dschloe thanks men !🙌🏽
This is the only Vulcan I’ve seen on TH-cam with the same style back lights as mine is it a 2005?
Thanks for watching. I think these bikes are very underrated.
It's difficult to appreciate the results of your efforts with such a low quality video resolution. 720/1080 HD would be so much better if you could manage to record in that resolution 👍
I'm 5 months late and I've never seen someone having so much trouble getting the brake piston/caliper to start functioning properly. Good on you for your patience and persistence.
Thanks for watching. I’ve never had one locked in like that. It was pretty frozen in there that’s for sure.
Thanks Dave you have given me the confidence to tackle this job, And save lots of dollars in labour costs.
Thanks for watching. That’s why I do these. Good luck with it and have your manual handy. Hope it goes well.
That's a bugger about the footage.
Yes it is but those things happen sometimes.
Good to see the VF 750 running.
Thanks for watching. Hope it’s helpful for you.
Ridden it yet mate? My knees are also old and sore... 😂
I have ridden it on some short rides and it feels much better. Feels better on my hips and knees. Can’t wait to do a long ride on it. Thanks for watching.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you for your explanations! On my bike (1999 R1100RT with 10,000 km) I can't extract the piston to replace.
Thanks for watching. Hope you are able to get it out. Hopefully it’s not too damaged to reuse. Maybe soaking it in some solvent would help.
Thanks for making the video. I was wondering how you got the large clamp that connects the carb to the large port between the engine heads. Did you use a regular allen key because Ive had trouble reaching it due to the angle and tight fit. Should I purchase something else? Thanks again!
Thanks for watching. If memory serves me right I used a long torques socket from harbor freight. But it’s been a while since I’ve done it and have sold the bike so I can’t check. Hope that helps.
How is it working one year later? Does it still working properly? Any regrets?
I sold the bike a while back. Big mistake I loved that bike and wish I still had it. But it was still working well. It didn’t give me as much stopping power as I’d hoped but it did make a difference
@@dschloe i think i will do this to my 2017 v strom too but if i go this route i will do a master cylinder changement too. that will do the real big difference in breaking power and smoothness..i will like your vid and save it. hopefully it will help me. all 650s are the same bikes from what i see...forks and breaks specially..thank u for uploading this.
What happened to make you rebuild the MC? My 95 RS has locked front brakes and brake lights are on. I’ll be rebuilding my MC shortly, so your video will be watched again.
Thanks for watching. Mine was leaking. Make sure you don’t have a collapsed line. Hope you can get it fixed ok.
I destroyed my ER6 racebike and wasn’t looking forward to ordering a $300 fuel pump over a broken plastic nipple lol. Ordered the part from Greece last Saturday, hoping he comes thru!! THANK YOU for making this video showing a sub-$300 fix!! Did he ship to US with any kind of tracking or did the part just show up in the mail? 😂
Glad the video was helpful for you. I’m sorry I can’t remember for sure I don’t think he did. But I remember shipping was pretty fast. Hope you get it fixed up and back on the track.
@@dschloe Update for anyone who may need this part; after 3 weeks of no communication or part from Perfect Fairings, I found a local machinist to make the part for me. 2 weeks after that, I did a chargeback after getting the part from the local machinist. Cost was still well under what a new fuel pump would have cost.
That is very very incomplete. How did you get the carburetors out of their boots?
My suggestion would be to loosen the boots and try and remove it with it still attached to the air box for support so you don’t break the fuel tubes.
@@dschloe old carburetor boots can be almost like hard plastic. Sometimes you need to heat them with a heat gun to soften them up. Sometimes you need to soak them in a penetrant overnight. I remove them by doing one of those two things if needed and I use a pry bar to pop them out of their boots
@@django1thanks for the info. I have used the heating them up trick before and that works very well.

Yes they are a great bikes. They are really easy to work on and a great beginner bike in my opinion. Very easy bike to ride.
