Marquette and Jolliet I The Beginning of the Voyage to the Mississippi
มุมมอง 7K4 ปีที่แล้ว
In 1673 Marquette and Jolliet and five other men left St. Ignace at the straits of Mackinac and made their way to the Mississippi river. The story or "Recit" of their trip was written by Father Claude Dablon, the superior of Jesuit missions in Canada, who sent it back to Paris as part of his annual report. Much of the "Recit" is written in first person, and many believe these passages represent...

Great job overall, but there's a critical safety concern worth noting. The lack of a proper notch in the final cut caused the tree to barber chair, which could have seriously injured the operator and ruined a valuable log that could have been sold at the mill. It’s always essential to use proper notching techniques to prevent dangerous situations like this. Glad no one was hurt, but this could be a learning point for anyone in the industry!
I guess if they were just looking around and not really trying to hornswoggle the people that were already living there…it would still be an amazing trip to take today!

Which species of leaves has yielded the best results in terms of rearing cecropia?
That was easily the most pathetic directional notch I've ever seen. Little wonder the stump shattered well above it.
Thank you for this informative video. Here is a video which shows a recent ceremony done this year to relocate Marquette'ss bones you may be interesteed to view.
It's not AkaMsea, it's AkaNsea (it's written right there on Marquette's map). Akansea, also spelt Akansa, is the name given to our intrepid explorers by an Alquonquin. The French also spelled it Arkansa, plural Arkansas.
The real Willie Sutton denied that he ever said “Thats where the money is”. A untruthful news reporter fabricated it and put it in his story. Check Sutton’s autobiography.

I could listen to you all day EJ! Only discovering these videos this evening after our chat. Just gorgeous! Thank you I knew none of this- just brilliant looking forward to more. X
This village was discovered in Clark County Missouri in 1993. Iliniwik Village State Historic Site. Near St Francisville, MO. Not in Iowa.
Jesuit rings were found in the archeological digs after discovery. This village was estimated to contain over 8000 Illinois native Americans and over 300 lodges.
Thank you for this great video! The last image is just stunning! I have just become familiar with obedient plant and will be sowing some seeds for blazing star this fall - hopefully we'll get lots of pollinators next season!!
He may as well as not even cut a face cut lol
So you move from the need of skilled tree climbers and ground men to the need of skilled machine operators.
Lmao, that was the most pitiful face cut I ever saw 😂 how do you cut for a “tree service” and can’t cut trees Smh
Where can I purchase seeds, can someone recommend a good source?? I live in Chicago Illinois 🦋🐝❤️
Prairie Moon Nursery carries culver’s root seeds and many other native plant seeds. You can purchase through its website for delivery.
Absolutely beautiful ❤️❤️❤️❤️ If only we had more prairies like this!!!
I love your videos so detailed with so much information, I'm a little confused, Ray and disc flowers... what's the difference??? Thank you
Thank you E.J. ~ Both Tom and I watched the story, the Journey of Marquette together. What beautiful illustrations and the Tiffany etchings!! Quite an arduous and determined voyage this was. Your story-telling voice and intonations was riveting ~ Our Love and Thanks for your detailed research and the telling of this Journey. Tom & Beanie Medlicott
that is so wonderful to walk in summer. it is good for the mind and body.
the stone building is the old warming house from the toboggan slide
Marquette encountered the enigmatic Piasa rock painting just before sailing past the Missouri River. He vividly described the two entwined dragons of the Piasa in his own journal. Odd that it is not mentioned in Father Dablon's Recit.
Watching this brought me a great joy I cannot express. As a teenager I worked summers mowing grass at St. James cemetery where apparently the Voyageurs stopped to hold mass or eat a possum or something. I have also canoed the Des Plaines River for decades---and now live in Channahon--which means "Where the waters meet"--the confluence of the Illinois, Dupage, Kankakee, and Desplaines rivers--rich with native American history and certainly a stopping point for the explorers. Look forward to part 2
