Chirk Aqueduct is a 70-foot (21 m) high and 710-foot (220 m) long navigable aqueduct that carries what is now the Llangollen Canal across the Ceiriog Valley near Chirk, on the England-Wales border and is part of the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and Canal World Heritage Site.

In March 2013 heavy snow caused a tree to fall under the weight of the snow and the tree fell across Llangollen Canal just before Chirk Aqueduct. Steam Locomotive on its way across Chirk Viaduct which is alongside Chirk Aqueduct in March 2013. Chirk Viaduct falls within the buffer zone of the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and Canal World Heritage Site granted by UNESCO on June 30th 2009.

The first time in history that the Olympic torch traveled across Pontcysyllte Aqueduct by Torch bearers and the barge "Saturn". Libby Anderson 20, of the Queens School, Chester walked around the crowd with children and adults alike waving Welsh flags before handing the torch over to Scout Leader Joanne Gregory, 41, who was sitting on the barge "Saturn".

See3D's visualisation of how Thomas Telford may have constructed the structure which was granted World Heritage Status by UNESCO in 2009. Pontcysyllte has not only become the 28th World Heritage inscribed site in the United Kingdom, but also the first World Heritage site to cross the border between two countries in the UK, as part of the 11-mile length of canal extends into England.
