The Tonex Capture You Didn’t Know You Needed (Blues Junior! What?!?)
Here's a little Inauguration Day jam featuring the @sundaytone Blues Junior #2 capture. What a fun amp! I had a Blues Junior myself, although mine was not a special run tweed with a Jensen. The capture pack is offered free of charge at www.sundaytone.com.
As far as gear, the thumbnail will show my pedalboard. I used some Tonex Spring 4 reverb, and my signal is East River Drive (TS808) into Aion Andromeda (ODR-1 clone), both running at 12 volts (do not do this if your pedal doubles voltage internally!). I used my DD-200 for some tape delay with a dotted 8th subdivision. I came up with this short track using the Addictive Drums plugin and the Blues Junior capture on the rhythm guitars, panned hard left and right, also with the Andromeda and delay. Bass is my Ibanez Bio into Tonex as a plugin with an Ampeg bass amp capture.

Real '65 Fender Stratocaster vs My Modern Partscaster
มุมมอง 168วันที่ผ่านมา
I had the rare treat to play (for the first time ever) an actual 1965 Fender Stratocaster this afternoon (a mere $18k!). Here is some tones compared with my own new partscaster. Big takeaway: the vintage is significantly warmer than my partscaster. The pickups are of course 60 years old now, and the tone capacitor is different than in mine. I had to roll my tone off to match the vintage, but ha...

The Wampler Triumph has been around for a little while, and it is a "budget" overdrive that sits in the same space as the JHS 3 Series. This is a unique overdrive that combines 2 of Wampler's favorite drive pedals, the Boss SD-1 and the Digitech Bad Monkey. Its active EQ is such a game changer that this can become a "Swiss Army" overdrive. This demo is simple, and the tone pretty well matches t...
Partscaster v. Fender AVII 1961 Stratocaster

I just put this partscaster together with an Allparts neck and GFS XGP body. The pickups are Benson Custom ‘63s, and a Benson wiring harness. The Fender is fantastic, but sounds quite dark. Perhaps that comes down to old strings? The strings on my partscaster are brand new. Shot at Guitar Center in Lakeland, FL, using a Fender Deluxe Reverb.

Excellent tones and great jam!! :-)
what pickups you have?
The partscaster has Benson Custom '63s in it. Incredible set of strat pups.
the '65 is such a huge difference in tone and totally worth the extra $16,000
@@fdhenard my thoughts exactly lol
Really an excellent comparison, thank you for posting. I've been building my own PartsCasters since the late 1980s, you really can end up with something much nicer than the sum of the parts. Don't get me wrong, I love vintage guitars, that said, I get a warm-fuzzy feeling when I play one of my own guitars that I spec. out and assembled. Great playing, and again, Thank You for posting this Jeff. 👍
@@hkguitar1984 thank you, and thanks for watching. My partscaster is on the cheaper side with a Guitar Fetish body (it could be poplar or alder, the listing didn’t say), and the neck is a $120 MIJ Allparts. But the electronics and pickups are quality, and the bridge and block are off a Fender Vintera.
I just bought one am obsessed with it it sounds soooooo goooodddd
@@evee6974 I so regret selling mine lol. I’ll get another one someday. Thanks for watching!

Well, that was pretty incredible because it didn’t seem like your amp was sent to the edge of break up. You hit the pedal and it was in a very nice usable overdrive.
@@scooter5005 yeah, the amp is a Tonex capture of a ‘65 Deluxe Reverb set quite clean (the PAFs on my semi hollow push it just a bit harder). The ODR circuit is really great into a clean amp, although I’ve had success into a slightly dirty amp as well.
Hey Dude!!! Great tones and nice playing! Your bass control seems to be a lot more powerful than the ODR-1X bass control. Sweet pedal!
@@ToneJunkieTV thanks! It really is powerful. It’s super handy when using a bassier guitar.
First impression was it looks like Pagey`s lake placid blue strat he played at Knebworth. Also, glad you switched pickups several times as I hate seeing guys that only use one pickup setting, unless the piece calls for it, ya know? Otherwise, it`s strat! You gotta use all those switches to keep it interesting and fun.
@@leechild4655 thanks for watching. This is the first whole partscaster I’ve built. It definitely feels different than my light blue MIM (partial partscaster since the body and bridge are actual Fender). Otherwise, internally it’s the same as was in the light blue. I took the loaded guard and dropped everything into Placid. I try to go through pickup positions, but live I tend to live on the middle because it’s a bit clearer in a band.
Sounds really smooooth !!!..I Enjoyed your Playing !!!...thanx...

Great playing!
@@Nonverbaleklaenge thank you!
Wow wow! What a beautiful tone and playing. I'm new to playing the guitar. I've been playing about 9 months. I love this ambient sound with the chorus and reverb. Is this from a tonex software package? I don't know if I should get an audio interface, speakers and run them into my laptop and get a package like this or get something like the Valeton GP200
@@johnnygreenway3579 thanks. I used the Tonex One pedal for the chorus, delay, and reverb. I recommend getting at least the Tonex One. It’s $180, and it’s easier to tweak tones on the pedal than in the software. I will use my Scarlett 2i2 interface to adjust effects, save the patches, then plug the Tonex One in and just drag and drop. It loads them onto the pedal. I haven’t used the Valetron, so I don’t know, but if you use analog pedals like distortion or overdrive, or other separate pedals, the Tonex has incredible amp captures. I use my own pedals, so it works best for me.
Glorious tone and such smooth style brother!👍 I really like the tasteful edge of breakup when you dig in. I'd like to know about your presets on the Tonex One. 🎸👍

@@Metalbass1979 that sounds incredible. Blessings on your mission!
Have an extra crispy tele set in one tele and a Bootstrap P 90 / Original Recipe set in another I built. And the mailman just delivered a 54 Sparkle strat set 15 minutes ago. I'd get a set of Humbuckers from Bootstrap too if they were in stock. Swear by these pickups.
@@davidcudlip6587 definitely love the Extra Crispy set. I have a set Golden Ale strat pups that used to be in my strat until I got some Benson Custom ‘63s. If I get another strat the Bootstraps will go into it.
I'm using a .015 in mine. .015 sound good
I thought that was the nicest cap value myself. That harness was a different one in that the back position was no tone or volume, just straight to output. A normal Esquire has volume on the back position, just no tone. Anyway, not too long after that, I rewired it to a standard Esquire setup with a .015 capacitor, then I went back to a stock Tele with the neck pickup, a set of Bootstrap Extra Crispy, their take on an overwound '51 Nocaster set. I did go with a no-load tone pot so I can take it out of the circuit for that Esquire-like thing on both pickups. It's slightly hotter when the tone is wide open.
@@jr0706 nice!
Just picked up a set of bootstrap golden ales. That bridge pickup is excellent, especially for a strat!
@@peterpicker850 they are great pick ups. I like the Benson set just a bit more, so that is what I am using. But I still have the bootstrap set, and if I am able to find a used classic vibe, Strat, I will definitely be installing those.

I use 10-46 on all my electrics. These are most likely D’Addario XLs, but could also be a set of DR Pure Blues.
Love my Valve Jr...hate that I have to turn it up so loud to get good tones. I'd really love a master volume knob on that sucker.
@@jcout25 I think the tones are good at lower volumes, but it reacts better at louder volumes. That said, I’m thinking of getting an attenuator like a Two Notes Captor X.
Sounds really, really good. Is that the Katana direct?
Thanks. No, that’s mic’d up, either with a Behringer SM57 clone or an Audix D4, can’t remember. I don’t use the Katana since I got an old Epiphone Valve Jr lol.
the guitar + amp at the beginning sounded good. your playing sounded good. the added fuzz + trem => not so much. just MHO.
@@anthonypanneton923 thanks. Fuzz isn’t for everyone, even me. It’s an occasional thing.
And it clears up on the middle and bridge pickups. It is really woofy on the neck.
@@jr0706 I've been diddling with fuzz pedals ever since the original Maestro Fuzz-Tone in the late '60s. at one time it's all there was (at least where I lived). Then came the Univox Superfuzz - original gray pedal w/knobs on the side. That was better because it had a switch to go from fuzz to something more like overdrive, which I used a lot back in those days. But by about 1970 I had quit using pedals altogether. Didn't start using again until about 1990. In my basement in a box somewhere I have a mid-'90s Sovtek Muff-Pi pedal. that's a good fuzz-like pedal, but its a HUGE army green metal box thing. Nowadays I prefer low-gain overdrives, and I have big assortment. I'm just not much into high-gain or fuzz anymore. I also have an Epiphone Valve Jr. head just like yours - I love it, although not for everything all the time! I use mine with either an 8" or 10" speaker - not for gigs, just in the house. Keep On Rocking!!
@@anthonypanneton923 wow, sounds like a fun time to be a player. I miss just plugging in, my pedalboard is quite large, but I’m a church guitarist and need all the delays and reverbs (although I need some reverb on the Epi head). I think fuzz of any kind is best in a mix. So I am going to try to do that over at backing track. I recorded a month or so ago when I get home from work this evening.
Excellent. At a fraction of the price.

The Custom Core sounds better. The 225 pickups certainly make a difference. I wonder too if the wood quality of the Custom core adds to that. I'm looking at a few different Custom Cores on Reverb right now. Thanks for the comparison!
It's a great guitar for sure. I preferred the 59s in the Standard myself. I have a set of those in my Ibanez semi hollow, and they are incredible PAF-style pickups. But I would not complain about the 225 set, and the Heritage CC is cheaper than the Gibson CS by a significant amount.
That sounds killer Jeffrey!! Nicely done!!
