the issue you get here is battery could blow up without proper controller/charger in place like your usb one. I would avoid such solution it would be better to have original connections on and metal strips soldered separately too and isolated each time you charge

Your DIY grip handle is a great idea, but the cell phone and cell phone holder vrig make the unit extremely top heavy. it's difficult to maintain. I built a folding holder out of 6mm EPP that weighs only 20g and folds around the bottom third of the phone. The FB 8bitdo is attached to the top with double-sided adhesive tape. It's easy and works wonderfully. But thanks for your idea. ;-)

This is awesome... just don't have a 3D printer. I got the controller and set it up (works great) but hard to juggle the phone and controller at the same time.

For anyone coming here after having bought one and not knowing about the whole company going under and batteires being in storage for years. I have a fix. My dad got two of these for my son and nephew this christmas and was obviously unaware the batteries would be toast. Both of mine had zero 0.3 voltage, after having them plugged in for hours they went upto 2v, still not enough to charge. The fix: I took one of my 9.6v RC car batteries, took the head off the cable and placed the positive and negative terminals onto the respective positive and negative of the mekamon battery for 10 seconds. I then put it on charge for 20 mins, tried it in the bot and it worked! If you try this stay with the battery as it charges, DO NOT LEAVE IT ALONE just incase and keep feeling for excess heat, if it gets very hot unplug it, let it cool and try again, if it just gets warm including the plug it’s just the battery drawing a lot because it’s totally dead. Obviously this gave the battery that little push of volts so that it would talk to the charger. If 10 seconds does not work try another 10 seconds. It may not work for everyone’s but it worked for both of mine.

I made this but it keeps disconnecting or cutting out despite being taped into the unit. BUT the other type of charging pack works perfectly. Any ideas what might be going wrong ?

I just cut open the top of the old battery using a dremel woth a cut off wheel. Not hard...just mind the blade depth. Does anybody have a link to Mekamon android operating software? It does not appear to be available for download any longer.
