Vintage Camera Yashica electro 35 - Restoration part 1 - Exposure
I spent some time recently taking a camera to bits, I like taking things to bits, I thought id try and make a video about it.
I really want to use this old Yashica camera, so in this video i try to repair its clearly faulty exposure system.

With little more than an iPhone 13 and a dream, I made an update about where we are after the ReBoi's stellar Kickstarter, and whats happening next. I hope this update means something to some of you. I'll be providing an altogether better update experience when I'm back in the UK at the end April.

    I’ve never used a raspberry pi anything. Will I need to program this from scratch?

    • @jamfab-james
      @jamfab-james 15 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      you don't really need to "program" a raspberry Pi Zero, its a computer, you just drag and drop an operating system onto an SD card, and plug it in. There is a little bit of setup required for the Display and the Raspberry Pi Pico, Ill provide a script and instructions to get all that setup, so no, you wont need to work out how to do all the configuration yourself :)

    Awesome project, I'd like to see access to the micro SD card in the pi and the HDMI and USB ports without having to open the case. Is using the pi zero 2w with it's wifi and Bluetooth enabled supported?

    • @jamfab-james
      @jamfab-james 15 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      you could pipe the SD card and HDMI port out with a flexible PCB, might be something ill work on down the line. You have access to the Pis USB port though the USBC port. Yep most of the configuration is done over WiFi / ssh

    This is amazing! I have been searching something like this for so long and Im interested to buy one! Im wondering how difficult would it be to change parts in this one? For example how difficult would it be to change the screen to a larger one in the future? Total noob here so I had to ask😅 But as I said it looks amazing as it is!

    2:50 theres a problem with your logic. The slow indicator means the exposure time is slower than 1/30, not that the camera isn't able to take the photo, it's capable to expose for more than a second actually. The Over is right, the camera will fire at max spped (1/500) and the image will be overexposed.

    if the rpi pico controller is using the same processor then it should be able to have a shitload of GPIO, I have things I would like to do with this if I buy one and just having the GPIO exposed would make this 10/10 the best thing I would possibly want please I don't need them to be some extra connection just literally have traces lead to some kind of exposed pad and that would be enough for me

    • @james-sargent
      @james-sargent หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey Man! That's the plan! the ReBoi uses a bunch of the GPIO for the buttons and the LED, at the moment I'm using three of the ADCs for battery charging and monitoring, but the plan is to have at least 5 GPIOs and the remaining ADC broken out to pads around the PCB, with power and ground pads for hacking and adding new features. It's designed to be assembled without a soldering iron, but I don't want to go ss far as to prevent people from hacking it if they have the tools :)

    • @james-sargent
      @james-sargent 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey! No trouble at all. I haven’t needed to use any level shifters, most of the little displays run on 3v3, which the Pi produces on pins 1 and 17 if you give it 5v0 so it’s a direct connection between the Pi and display, no extra hardware required. The hard part is initialising the display, you need to send it a few commands over SPI before it will start working in DPI, it’s technically all In the data-sheet (ILI9341) but it’s a long data-sheet😂 good luck!

    I would actually really love to see this come to market since there currently isn't anything like it for the GBC, at least nothing that requires zero soldering and is essentially drop-in ready. Have you considered collaborating with John, aka Zega? He made the excellent MAME kits for the Game Gear, DMG, and GBA SP that run off an RPZ. One of the cool things about his kits for the DMG and SP is that they add X and Y buttons for better controller support for all the different systems. The DMG kit also has an optional add-on for rear L and R buttons. It's really cool stuff.
