Black & White Infrared Film Photography: R72 IR Filter vs. Red 25 Filter!
When it comes to B&W infrared film our favorites are @ilfordphoto SFX 200 or FPP B&W IR by @filmphotographyproject 🙌 while a red filter can do an okay job, a true Infrared filter light the R72 from @hoyafilterusa is best! If you have a camera that meters through the lens, then you can use the meter reading it gives you as it will compensate for the 5 stop difference but if you have a camera that doesn’t meter through the lens, you will need to open up +5 stops( we often bracket to +6) in metering to compensate for the R72 filter. A tripod will come in handy due to slow shutter speeds and we recommend a wider focal length at f/8 or higher - most lenses have a red dot/line to adjust focus for IR but if it doesn’t, you should be fine at F/8 as long as you have a wide lens and you subject is close to infinity.
We develop B&W IR filter here at TheDarkroom.com and when you send it in , be sure to send IR film in a black canister stating it is Infrared film so we know to open it in complete darkness!

Yashica MF-2 Super Review...it's ok…
มุมมอง 41912 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
While the MF-2 is better than the cheap plastic cameras made these days, we still recommend most auto focus point and shoots as they will have better lenses and better exposure control which will help create better image quality. The photos we got with Kentmere Pan 100 looked pretty good when shooting outdoors so if you’re looking for a camera that’s simple and easy to use in bright sunny days ...

Please make a video explaining in details how to adjust the focus manually using the red don/line aid in the lens.
I wasn't sold on this camera when it came out, but the more I think about it and the more results I see, this is probably gonna be the camera that makes me come back to film. The fact that it's half frame and that the results show basically no difference to ff, it makes way more sense today with how much film and development cost. Well done Ricoh/Pentax!
I did the same thing this summer. I bought myself a new old stock Minolta Dynax 505 - that came with the lens kit, and paired it with a small 50mm. It's the most reliable point and shoot I've ever had and it's a lot of fun to shoot
you load film the right way, I still roll it the wrong way :P
Nice eye 📣💐
I have that Pentax IQZoom and it's not bad. I've gotten some good shots with it.
No. There is much better half frames out there. Pen F, Ee series, Autorex. Too expensive for a plastic toy.

Anything to take people's hard earned money
if people do not think this product is worth it they will not buy. they only person being tricked is you, tricked in giving a negative comment which on increases engagement thus boosting this video in the algorithm.
Make it look more like a logo so they will not notice it for sure. The warning should be huge, red and even then, mentioned by owner.
such product improvement for 10 customers on this planet
10's or 100's of thousands of customers on the planet.*
Very Nice. But very few people who use this film get infrared results like you got..
i think they’re fire
What kind of Focusing Screen are you using with the F1.2 lens? I am using an F5 and I am planning to switch the focusing screen for manual focus
The small is 5.95usd and the medium is 8.95usd Combo deal for 12.95usd though I mean, I'd perfer a canvas bag over an okay looking plastic one. But the possible water proofing and better durability is a definite plus for that pricing
Ah I miss those Midwestern lake days…. Starting a full fledged film photography club with my my buddy @Seth__shoots in Indiana if you guys ever make it out that way! @analogalliance_Indiana

My go to is an orange filter. It adds just the right amount of contrast without being dramatic. I like using red to add drama to stormy/cloudy skies.
I can only do the first method, the second method maybe more efficient but it feels clungy for me
My neighbor made the same mistake with CVS. They brought the exposed roll of film to the CVS right down the street. Maybe they didn't know that CVS also does NOT return negatives. They also didn't know that the film is sent to a regional developer in another state so it took close to three weeks to get the photos back. They got them back with a note that there were "no exposures" on the roll so the film was not scanned of course. However without the negatives there was no way to see if the entire roll was under or over exposed.
It never bothered me, grandpa told me to always do it in a dark sleeve and dark room, and I could do it in blind, probably gaining even 1 more shot ;) Though I was a kid back then, so I wouldn't really tell. I was just doing the whole tape, took it out and process with a handmade light-timer by my dad. 😅
You posted this on Instagram some time ago. Im going to say the same thing I said then. Neither is more efficient than the other. Both cameras ended up with the same amount of exposed film before closing the back. Anyone saying you get extra shots with method 2 are just wrong. As for loading speed, its going to come down to practice. Both methods can be equally fast. Personally, i find it easier to manipulate the film leader while the cassette is secured in the body to compared to trying to get it to fit without pulling the leader out of the takeup spool accidentally. But to each their own.
Color plus has been my go to for quite a while. The reds really pop with colorplus
The second method was taught to US G.I. photographers in Vietnam for faster and more efficient loading technique while under fire and stress.
I've been doing the first way literally my entire life, but the second way makes more sense.
Just lsarnes a kind of wired way to load films
If you do the second one right you can sometimes get 37 shots.
Both cameras had the exact same amount of exposed film before closing the back. Both methods can net you 37 or 38 frames if you don't wind a full frame before closing the back.
The filters can´t add contrast
The yellow green filter is my way to go
Do you know of a lab where I can get Kodachrome developed (US)

Nice review.Really great images from your trip, also beautiful long exposure of Grand central Station. Do you think the price is a little steep, and will it come down in time?
I can can clearly see the passion you have for film photography. That is one of the best reviews of the Pentax 17 I've seen. Cheers! Leave it to Pentax to think outside the box. They stick with DSLR cameras instead of going to mirrorless and now they come out with a brand new film camera. I've been a Pentax shooter for a long while now. Started with a K10D first, then decided to try my hand with film. Got an old Spotmatic SP, then an ME Super. My current camera digital camera is the K-5II. I really love it. Solid, reliable, with good feel and handling. I'm kind of in between wanting to upgrade to the K-3 III or the K-3 III Monochrome. Or do I go back to film with the 17? Hard to say at this point.

I just purchased a Canon EOS Rebel G and a Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM lens. What a pair! I'm blown away! I have some Canon MF cameras (A-1 and T50) which I love and now I've become a Canon EF fanboy. Amazing bang for the buck!

I now agree with your view that this camera could well suit experienced film photographers as much as newcomers. Those street shots were first class. The meter and lens combo really seem well matched. And enough features to allow someone to grow into the hobby from get go, or for an experienced photographer to enjoy the simplification and just focus on the image (see what I did there). Well done Pentax. And, thank you for a great review.
Price is too high 😔
I've been using a KODAK EKTAR H35 Half Frame for a year and I'm very happy with it and the results, just for 50€.
Just got one of these, basically for the 50mm f2 lens. The lens is extremely cool. The camera was nasty though. All the rubbers were shot, and the mirror bumper was disintegrating, showering the interior with sticky flecks of decomposed foam. I cleaned it up with alcohol and distilled water (mega important, don't use alcohol on the focus screen, as it will damage it) and put new light seals and a new mirror bumper in. Now the camera is an absolute gem. The light meter reads a couple of stops off the app I use as a backup, but all the photos I've shot with it are properly exposed. Mechanically, it's a beast. Rock solid, and the wind-on mechanism is literally strong enough to snap your film if you try and wind it past the limit. Be warned, check your film is 24 or 36 before trying to wind to 25! I've used a FE for the last 20 years, and got the camera essentially thinking of using the lens for the FE, but the Nikkormat gives me such confidence, I think I'll end up using it as my main camera.
So much money for a half frame ... keep my FM2 and it's 50mm 1.4 😁
Can you drop the details of the UV filter you mentioned? Am thinking of purchasing it to pair with this camera specifically😄 thank you! Amazing review 👏🏾
very well explained! easy to understand step-by-step of doing double exposures even for a beginner. thank you!
Do you still enjoy using this lens dude? How’s it going so far? I’m about to buy one for my fm2/f6
I LOVE IT, but I don't know how to scan it properly :-(
Nothing on exposure metering...for pic 1 n 2...just a lot of fluff...u got it down correctly...us newbies need more details...
love the part where you go through the historical origins of certain elements of the camera. I got mine recently and it's so refreshing to use a modern film camera. I hope we get to see a full frame equivalent one day.
