I'm in North Central Texas, about 40 miles west of Fort Worth. I've got a small vineyard of about 75 vines...Blanc du Bois, Blanc du Solei and Black Spanish. We're expecting our first wine making season in the fall. Things are going well. I think I've watched all your TH-cam videos and they have helped a lot. Our ranch is also a wildlife management area so I've got an 8 foot fence surrounding the vineyard.

I've been enjoying going through this season with you and your wife! I've got two questions for y'all: Since the first row doesn't produce as well as the rest, would putting a windshield/tarp in front of it help any? Is it common for your outer rows to produce less than the inner rows?

There is a tool to remove metal posts that makes it easy. The soil in a vineyard should be prepped the fall before planting and before putting in the trellis. A little bit of prep is worth years of struggle. I learned that from old vineyard people. You want that ground not compacted so young roots grow outward quickly. You also want any amendments to spend the winter being utilized by the soil biome so they are ready for the plants. Bird houses around a vineyard... you are just asking for it. If a home orchardist doesn't have room for dead man cables, simply put more wooden posts in and then connect to tops with 2x4s. This method is also better if you decide to go with T posts, which I do. I can get 4 times the grape production out of T post trellises. I like the cable connector you demonstrated. Interesting channel.

I guess I am in good company here. I got banned from Facebook... immediately after creating my profile. No way to fight it. I hadn't even posted anything yet. It appeared that they wanted me to prove I was a real human. They asked for loads of personal information. I didn't give it to them. When I didn't, they found my Facebook business page for selling my books and locked it. To add salt to the wound, for two years they would send me emails to update my business page... but they wouldn't let me. I joined Twitter. They hid all my tweets. I recently joined a homesteading forum. After a couple days I stumbled upon threads supporting Russia's invasion of Ukraine. I set the record straight and was immediately banned. Looking into it further, I saw where they were singing the praises of a Russian homesteader joining the forum. One of his pieces of farming equipment was a military vehicle. Folks, social media is friggin nuts! Be careful. There are many people out there with bad agendas. Oh... as for Facebook, I dodged a bullet. They had been selling all that personal information for profit. Banning me was a way to get all my personal information to sell. These companies need to be reigned in. All the best with the vinyard and I hope you someday turn a profit. it is tough making money the old fashioned way... through hard work.

Hello from North Central Washington. We have a lot of vineyards in our area, so I am putting in table grapes. These are purely for our eating pleasure. I have watch several of your videos and gained a great deal, thank you! We also fight the pocket gophers here, so I am creating 1/2 x 1/2 “ hardware cloth baskets to plant my starts in. I have question about the watering system. Why put the watering system on the lowest wire and not on the ground? We had 196” of snow last winter, so I see the watering lines being an additional snow load item along with the vine itself. I look forward to hearing from you on this matter. Dan

What state are you located in?

We're thinking about starting a vineyard from scratch at the other end of the Gorge, no more than 20 acres, but maybe 5 at a time, until we get the hang of it. We've watched your 15 videos on that, and we'd love to visit Mosier to pick your brains about the process. Are you open to a visit?! I have several starts of juicing grapes for grandkids. I got the stalks when our oldtimer friends pruned their vines. I followed directions and now I have concords, and 4 other kinds with leaves coming on. I didn't think any would take, so I didn't plan out a vineyard! 😮😅
