I remember playing the sims 3 on my DS for hours at night. I had everything, I was rich, I had a wife and a big house (as big as it can get) but someday I actually clicked on the cartridge on the back while on a loading screen which broke the game and I it would just freeze. I couldn’t leave it or turn the console off, just had to wait until the battery goes out

I had the 3DS version my first 3DS game 😭 IT WAS SO BAD 😭😭 I legit remember struggling to keep my sim's needs up and its relationships kept decaying at a stupid speed and it's honestly like they never actually playtested it. Such a shame, it would have been nice to have an actual functional portable sims game.

0:35 and gameboy advance. although none of the Sims 2 ‘ports’ really have anything to do with the PC Sims 2 (except for the phone one, maybe) unlike the Sims 1 & 3 ports. (not to imply that they’re bad, of course. they’re all very interesting games! but the ‘sims 2’ label is misleading at best)

I loved the ds version as a kid and the 3ds base game was lacking compared to the ds 😭

The furniture limit was actually a thing in The Sims 1 and 2 for consoles as well! Edit: On TS3 for DS you can also just walk up to the building you want to work on, akin to the PC version. People just didn't do it on PC because the newspaper was more convenient.

I remember playing the sims 3 pets on 3DS on the bus a lot. I have a lot of stories but one of the best ones was when i discovered i could start fire by placing objects everywhere, including discarded bowls and plates. So i made my sim binge eat cold soup and formed a soup pyramid and eventually the fire started and it killed my sims. Good times.

I got a copy of the sims on PS3 and became obsessed. I played it for months, and got my household over one million simoleons without cheats. When I finally got it for the computer, it felt almost awe inspiring with how much more robust it was. It’s sad how poorly this game runs on most computers.

I been playing DS Sims 3 and I played 3Ds Verison I pefer DS it seems more fun and more like sims.

I remember having the DS version. I played it once and then returned it because the faces were unsettling.

the opinion actually seems to be split on whether The sims 3 or the sims 2 is the best version. I personally think the sims 3 blows the sims 2 out of the water but its also a buggy nightmare thats a bit to big for its own code its also very limiting with only one neighborhood. the sims 2 is fun and more challenging but I found it to be highly repetitive and the customization options outdated. And as much as the sims 4 hasits haters it also has some advantages The Sims 4 was a downgrade in gameplay from the sims 3 in every way but it is still fun in its own way and I think because it was so much less ambitious then the other installments were for their time it is way more stable than any other sims game has ever been. meanwhile I don't think anyone has a serious claim to sims 1 being the best game. it was amazing for what it was at the time but now it is very outdated. mostly nostalgia value. I'm not going to say it aged horribly, but it doesn't have the timelessness of someting like rollercoaster tycoon. which while a bit outdated in 2024 still holds up extremely well to its modern opponents despite how limited it is in comparison because its simplicity is what made it work.

How do you play these games??

The Wii version, while may look super appealing and very exciting at the game, it comes with "dire" limitations that the DS version has but much less scale. First, you can't build your own house and only able to choose various house shells. This brings us to the second limitation, the game is constantly struggling with memory management, and constantly prompts you that you break fire code in build mode, even with only few furniture, leaving you only option is to buy a mansion IF you want a big fully-furnished house. Third, navigating around town is a nightmare. Tripping into any lot area will strangle the console and make everything stutter (fixable by just walking on the road). Travelling between lots with vehicle is far more painful than it should be as it's very, very slow, constant animation interruptions to force you to wait and let the console smoothly load data to fill lots. The whole town is absolutely empty with only few townies visiting only few places. You don't have any options to disable life stages, which is fine if the game is able to fill in lots automatically, but no, in only a Sim month or two the entire town will become a ghost town IF your legacy manages to live long enough. The Sims 3 Wii version is by far the least playable version out of all Sims 3 games released for consoles. It only survived because the media wasn't all as fast and wide spreading as what it is today. The DS version is the king of Sims 3 for Nintendo devices.

Grew up playing the DS version after being introduced to the Sims 1 when i was really young. I thought it sucked that you couldn't have kids, but the open world map was really fun, especially with details like the grave yard and the special stones that made it so that it could become winter.
