Gold mining gold dredging a contact zone Keene dredge, visible gold pickers on bedrock. gold.mp4
Working the crack in a contact zone, picking some gold off the bedrock. Sluice Box shot at the end with some more visible gold ,no clean up shown. Unfortunately some water collected collected on the camera housing distorting the view of the gold in the sluice. The dredge is made by Keene, the nozzle is made by Proline.

      I did get some gold. Mostly fines and 1 nice picker. This was my first time dredging that spot so I spent a lot of time sampling. The picker was found a couple days later in another location while assembling the dredge. It was caught in the dredge hose ribs at the oversize coupler connection. Never made it to the sluice..

    When going for the superfine flour gold is classification important on the sluice? My golds 30mesh, largest. Most is 150mesh and smaller. What point would a 3 stage work well too, and any ideas on best mesh sizes for me to try first? Thanks

    • @geoffc1694

      Meant to say, im running 3mm woven wire mesh at the header, through my goldcube. 3 trays vortex mat 750-1100gph 15degree angle on the cube. Ive just built 2x 4ftx12inch sluices, have miners moss, ribbed rubber mat 3mm, same carpet as the green in your video, ive 3 magnetic sheets, with alternating north-south poles creating a fluid bed charged with magnetite and riffle effect, pull stregth varies 30cm3 to 150cm3, the material feeds in and slides under then the light less dense than magnetite pushes up through the magnetite bed and exits the sluice. Im sizing my material to 1.5mm before entering this, but ive no experience of flour gold capture in the sense of the benefits and limitations of classifying materials this small. Any advice - experience would be welcome thanks

    All you would have to do in my opinion is have one layer sluice box with full coverage of black ribbed matting on the bottom and then a full layer of miner's moss on top of that then your set of riffles in place should be enuff for optimal fine gold recovery and running the engine at 3/4 throttle to slow the water down without fear of losing any gold whatsoever and still capture probably 98% or more of the gold !!!! What you did sir is way too much effort for not really any more gold at all in my opinion but it's your dredge and you have to do all that extra work for not a whole lot more gold !!! I said to myself dear God that's a days work what he's doing no time to dredge now !!! Just pickin at ya buddy !!!!

    • @Leftoverau
      @Leftoverau 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jeffrey Elliott Gold comes in many shapes and sizes. You need to classify material by size for good recovery. Many miners have done just what you described in addition to adding a classifying screen. Google search :"Clarkson study fine gold recovery". Be careful though, you might learn something.

    I dont get why you want to modify something that millions have been spent on the development of this dredge system? Keene's three stage system has a proven track record. Changing the carpet out for miners moss is about the only chsmges thst maybe needed depending on where you are dredging. People make all kinds of changes to these dredges when they do not need it. Once you dial in thr aluice and buy a tachometer... Thats about all you need on them. Just dont over feed them, once in the pay layers back off the rpms by 100-150 and get the AU. I have personally found negative 70 mesh AU on the Miracle Mat in the first stage by listening to my dredging friends. Just setting the sluice so the power jet sets about two inches from the flair and only sticking the power jet inside the flair enough so it is just past the openings on flair helps too. By slowing the dredge down to 2650 to 2550 rpms once I get into the gold. I agree you need to run it faster , 2900 to 3100 rpms to remove the over burden. Personally I am not getting my fingers or hands any where near the nozzle at those rpms even with gloves on. You dont have to run this dredge wide open with the Honda GX200 to move a lot of material. I also use a blaster nozzle and run it off the pump with the big high volume water hose valve with a leaver on it too. I also used the high volume Y valve on the pump and a 25 foot 3/4" Red gilmour commercial water hose. I hope the owner of this video does not delete this so others can see this message. I sold my Keene three stage dredge back in February because someone wanted it more than me. I made the man one heck ofa deal too. Due to health reasons I haven't replaced it yet. I am planning on buying another 4 inch Keene 3 stage with the Gast air pump as soon as my health improves. The only mods I will be making is miners moss with low ridge rubber mat in the 1st stage and in the 3rd stage. Welding on some 3/4 inch tubing for spud poles on three sides. I usually use two 8 ft 1/2 copper coated ground rods. I do not use a spud pole on the engine side. I onlyy use spud poles one in creeks and shallow water. In the rivers I use 50 and or 100 foot 3/8 or 1/2 ropes set to a 5 lbs or bigger folding boat anchor with a locking self adjustable pulley system for fast prospecting and moves. I also use a 3 to 4 man inflatable boat to carry my extra stufff. Using two spud poles makes moving the dredge very easy and fast when the tailings build up at the end of the sluice. If I use the spuds in the river I always have an anchor set just in case the water comes up very fast. I also use the blaster nozzle to set the spuds down into the sand and rocks. Most importantly, I do not use cheap ropes either. Why would you risk losing a $3K to $4K plus dredge on a cheap rope? Plus your putting your life at risk too if under water and your dredge takes off down stream! Never dive alone! If you do go out alone always tell a loved one or someone you can trust where you are and about what time your coming home. When using scuba gear or on compressed air, always have someone with you incase something happens. Never dredge under big loose bolders, rocks and leaning trees. Your life is not worth all of the gold in the creek or river! You cant enjoy it once your dead and you sure cant take it with you!

      +AU Dredger You make some good points and advice. The 2nd stage mod in this video is revision 1. If I were to make a 2nd revision it would have the Dahlke type "flat top" riffles in the last 1/3 to 1/2 of the second stage with no screen covering them. I would build the rev 2. as a completely new, separate unit to be used in areas further south with larger gold. This would give me 3, 2nd stage options that can be easily changed out contingent on the size of gold in the deposit. In my limited experience the stock Keene 3 stage has good recovery for a wide range of gold sizes (for a mass produced box.) Which is what Keene probably intended. Also I have spoken in person with local dredgers who's experience predates both the keen triple and 3 stage. I have it on good authority the development of the 3 stage was not an entirely "in house" closed loop effort ;) Should you get to dredging again, you have a standing invitation to come and run it in the area where this was filmed. The gold is modest though consistent and over a couple days should give sufficient enough comparison. Seeing is believing. Maybe we both learn something. Thanks for watching and good luck with your endeavors.

    Hi Leftoverau, I'm glad that I took a second look at your video. I'm leaving in morning headed up Sharps Cr. I had that riffle in wrong the one at 2:04 in vid. The dredge is used but new to me. It came disassembled no instructions. So thanks for the vid. Are you still running with this set up or have you made more mods? Sounds like we both run in the same area. Would you have any advice for Sharps? Personally I hope that those mods you made to your dredge are the solution to super fine recovery. Best to you and thanks again.

    Anyone can design stuff on a napkin with a pen, whats that cost? You can't even buy a decent motor/pump/air (new) for 1/5 the cost of a new dredge. This dredge was bought used for less than material cost and is not an endorsement for Keene.

  • @pikesticker
    @pikesticker 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Did the guy that sold you that sluice box also have a bridge for sale too? Seriously, Keene has no clue how to design an efficient sluice box on a dredge after all the years they have been in business. I've had my own custom dredge since 1971 and I can assure you that 100% gold recovery is not as complicated as what Keene makes it out to be with their "fancy" features and components. As the saying goes KISS. Its ALL in the riffle design. Note: singular riffle. Good luck with that.

    Yes they are very efficient when you pre classify. They are a bit tricky to get dialed in on a creek, though it's certainly possible. You will definitely notice if the water level in the creek changes a little. Think I paid $85.00 new for it, can't seem to find many used ones for sale for some reason. Think they have been around for 20+? years.
