Live Steam and Long Trains at Chula Vista
มุมมอง 5604 หลายเดือนก่อน
Lets see how an Allen 4-6-0 "Ten Wheeler" can pull 19 or 21 train cars around the track at Chula Vista Live Steamers. Then, I take the throttle for a run with 14 cars behind me, with mixed success. I guess slow and steady does win the race. The design is about as basic as you can get - it's called a 'pot boiler' because that's exactly how it works - an open flame under a container-full of water.
If you've never been to Sacramento Valley Live Steamers, i suggest that you go there. The layout is amazing.
Nate I’m happy your possible considering svls id absolutely like to see and meet you at our club it’s got so much history
What no SCLS??
Only mentioned clubs that host Meets. SCLS, among others, does not hold meet events. So it is not out of the question.
Very impressive and interesting display of historic railroad equipment as railroads are important for transportation usage and our national economic development. The B&LE locomotive #154 is an interesting, smaller example of steam power while the C&O "Allegheny" type locomotive #1601 is an enormous, giant specimen of an articulated steam locomotive as articulated steam engines are always enjoyable to see due to their sheer size. I always enjoy seeing footage of C&O locomotive #1601 as it is the largest object on display at the Henry Ford Museum, the C&O "Allegheny" class were among some of the largest and most powerful types of articulated steam locomotives ever built in the USA during the steam era.
I was there in 2022. I want to try to get back there this year.
There needs to be more of these
There are many clubs all over the US, and around the world. Many have their own private tracks at home too.
When I was in high school in Glendale in the ‘60s, my buddy was a member of the LA Live Steamers and I spent many a Saturday hanging out there with him and watching some of the building and machining processes.
I’m a huge steam fan Nate
Me too
"Lucky 7"might be the 3 1/2" gauge Forney that you stumbled across.
Probably, I can’t find the source now. I forget what website it was from.
Americans are so complicated. Why not just call it 1:10, 1:5, 1:6, 1:2, 1:3 etc... metric is the way to keep it simple and easy. Nice footage tough.
Can’t say for all Americans, but these standards have been well set, mainly for the gauge, and good luck trying to change it now. All goes back to the Brotherhood of Live Steamers someway or another.
I worked on the Red Car from the beginning to the end. The port lied to us over the years about expanding it. It was supposedly set to go to Cabrillo Beach. Then to Wilmington. The to target on Gaffey. It's a shame the port tore most everything out. The cars are still sitting in their tent at 22nd St. There are plans to donate the cars to a few museums in SoCal. I'll believe it when I see it as to this day I don't believe anything the port says about the Red Cars.
I have a friend at one of the museum where a red car is planned to go, but has been stalled for months. Don’t know why, but we shall see if it happens. I’ll be sure to cover it in a video, I grew up near by and went as a kid.
@@nates.vintage.trains , would that be the Lomita Railroad museum? If you could get in touch with me when the move happens, I'd like to be there. Thanks.
That Old Tunnel on an abandoned railroad is a lot similar to the Port of Tillamook Bay Railway Between Banks and Tillamook. The main reason I find similarities between the Tillamook railroad in Oregon and The Tennessee Pass railroad line In Colorado is that both have tunnels on abandoned railroads and have been out of service for decades. You should come out to Oregon and explore the abandoned line in the Tillamook forest between Batterson and buxton Oregon.
I plan on going to Oregon this year, but for the Train Mountain Triennial near Klamath Falls.
Where is this?, I want to go here
A lot of places, but mainly from Los Angeles Live Steamers in Griffith Park, check out my playlist from the meets I have attended!
Have you thought of making a video on the grand scales, everything between 7.5" and 19"?
It’s not really my focus for the channel, but I May consider doing stuff for the grand scale trains.
Had no idea that the scale/gage was so involved. Were there a few shots of Torrance in there ???
Some, yes.
?
Wow!! Nate that is a lot of numbers!!
Yeah, makes my head spin.
@@nates.vintage.trains I am selling my green car cause they want me to use a center bench, faster and easier to load and unload.
How often does the stack train comes to that subdivision?
Not often, only for a storage move when LA harbor tracks get full. The line terminates about 20 miles from the Harbor, and the storage siding (one siding) gets cars, empty or loaded, at random.
I know most people go to the Henry Ford Museum to see all the neat motor vehicles that they have (cars, trucks, etc.) but every time I want to go, the very first thing I wanna see is that monstrous Allegheny locomotive (well, except when I went in 2021 for the Jim Henson Experience.)!
Great job 👏
Cool beans, trying to put together something with an 8 inch gauge myself.
Good luck with that. Better be 7.5” gauge, or 7.25” if in the Northeast. Haha
I bow to no standardization schemes! In all seriousness though, no clubs or anything near me, so no real worries about making it interchangeable with anything else, just something to ride on for my own amusement. I get bored, I build trains, it's all good.
Great video Nate. I need to get out to Maricopa and check out their 1 inch scale. Also finely go over to Scottsdale LS and check them out for the first time.
Awesome 👌 👏 👍
Great video! Your in Live Steam magazine with me riding the Porter in this months issue with Butter Pig on the cover. Check it out!
I’m not subscribed to the magazine, I need to. I’ll get the three year soon.
@@nates.vintage.trains I might have a digital copy of the last issue of Live Steam, I will dig it up and send it to you or the article at least by Monday, I'm helping the LALS with clean up from wind damage
Thanks Nate
I like those scales train.Very interesting Railroad
…….. I’m lost on this video ?
Me too. Might redo it. A bit of a ramble.
@ just as a suggestion Nate… if I were you I would do the gauges of live steam entirely different were you put a big scale live steam locomotive next to a small one in gauge order like biggest to smaller
Great stuff, Nate! See you soon!
Used to go to goat hill quite a lot as a kid! Good times.
Still a whole lot of fun.
Die 21 läuft sehr weich 👍
live steam is hot
Yep, always make sure to be safe when having fun.
Turning heat into work. What an incredible invention, changed the world.
Pretty nice for a first. My first was a D6
I've got a D24, hasn't ran for 40 years though. keep it as a relic
I'm always amazed at how real the train sound.
That’s why I want a steam locomotive someday.
Nice work Narrating the history of the Tennessee pass and Buena Vista, Depot Nate keep it up please and be safe out there please
Will do
Merry Christmas Nate, thank you for the video! Glad your locomotive is rolling along well.
Thanks Joe
@ you’re welcome my friend!
Merry Christmas to one and all.......... That place is so much bigger than Wilson Park, nice you had the whole place to yourself....
There is o much more to this place too. Stay tuned.
Very nice Nate, Thanks for the tour.
Awesome 👌 👏 👍 thanks for sharing 👌 👍
Lets hope your engine stays running this time. Ho Ho Ho.
I made sure of it, new motors and quality electronics.
I'll be out there tomorrow night ans Sunday, with my camera too, making vids for TH-cam. :D
Saturday or Sunday?
Yes. XD
Your engine sounds a lot better since you made the repairs
Absolutely. Replaced the whole insides. You can actually hear yourself think.
Blessings, Nate!
Thanks for the ride Nate
No problem.
Cool Video & Train Ride!
I love those RMI locomotives. Always wanted to make one as a woodburner with a functional R&H style stack.
17:22 those "mini-modal" containers are awesome!
