The dancer in the middle , is called Vahenga , or reference to person responsible for a large group of men or dancers .. however, our Fijian cousins , who's dances are mostly war inspired , they refer to him / her as Na Manumanu meaanig THE BEAST ... 👺I like the THE Fijian version ...🌴🐢🦈

Samoans came with this dance to Tonga when they came to serve the Tuitonga with their fine mats, food, dances and their women. Tongans picked up a lot of dances from Samoa, Futuna and Uvea, Fiji etc when those countries came to serve the Tuitonga

By the looks of these comments a lot of Tongan people don’t understand that our Tongan dances have changed dramatically in the last 50years or so. Just because they perform it a little different to todays Tongan standards it doesn’t mean they’re performing it wrong. Just look at a tauolunga from 20 years ago compared to now and you can already see how big the changes are.

  • @gedee6635

Watching this after reading that James cook talked about this dance on his 3rd voyage. Crazy how much the Tongan dance has changed in such a small time. Most notably the outfit showing girls stomaches, modern Tonga wouldn’t agree with that 😂

The Tapaki dance was brought to Tonga by Futunan free braves or by some Uvean (since the Tapaki dance is also a Uvean dance) under the control of Gasialili. Don't lie just tell the truth.
