There are two tracks at Ravensprings Park which share a 'tunnel' really a bridge which was too small, the raised 5" track had to give way to the 7 1/4" trains. The only way to move was outwards which meant going somewhere under the toilets but protected trees on the Dell side of the toilets dictated going directly under the middle of the toilets! It also gives us access the the Dell which was an area not used for track before. The 7 1/4" also benefited from a reduction in climb from about 1 in 60 to 1 in 180 which is much appreciated when rail conditions are poor. Both raised track and 7 1/4" ground level track happier without the interference of the original tunnel.

@@narrowgauge7.25 thanks but I had worked that one out, no I mean the curve radius or do you work in diameters in that scale? Also relevant to quote from the centre line or whatever inside or outside as the difference would be 7.25 inches. I believe that 1.8 metre radius may be a common one and likely as this is quoted in a different vid on minimum gauge railways.

@@dunnyraildunnybahn5481 Yes it is the radius at 2m normally quoted for centre line. Rosy gets down to 1m for her inside railway!

I agree I build full size trains that happen to run on 7 1/4" gauge track. That is because I put full size people in them and I am too big for those scale things people with more skill than me build

@@narrowgauge7.25 My brain wants to think the trains are resting above the track, giving this weird illusion that the trains are hovering.

@@riapos6679 There is a raised track in front of the ground level track that they are actually running on

@@narrowgauge7.25 I was wondering if it was raised dual gauge track but could only see one pair of rails. The camera angle is freaky/unfortunate in that it does look like the trains are running on their left hand wheels and somehow levitating :-) It does look like fun though and I wish I had a garden big enough to have a ride-on railway. As a matter of interest, what's the absolute minimum radius and gauge for a ride-on garden railway?

Paul it is running two x 36v 350w motors on one bogie with cheap Chinese controller, the motors are gear down approx 9 to 1 so final drive via chain is almost one to one. The other bogie is air braked, the original design of bogie was purely for a non powered carriage so insufficient room for motors and brakes. The air brakes are simple air on spring off. 4225mm long, 537mm wide and 1 800 talll. lots of photos are bits on its Facebook page facebook.com/tantivytram

There are no brakes on the loco the driving wagon had air brakes which also operated the club stock

John inspired by Rolland Emett creations it is actually a battery electric with a pair of 350w 24v motors and a couple of 50ah mobility batteries. To help it along it has a solar panel (charging the 12v system) and Hammy the Hamster running in a wheel (not actually doing anything other than entertaining the kids. To Help set off it has torso boost which blows bubbles to get it moving. For night running and in cloudy weather there is also a sail not shown in this video! It is a lockdown project in that nearly everything is from stock so for example the body panels are all reclaimed Dibond signs. The roof is a sheet stretched over so odd bits of timber. Finally designed to run on Cloud Cuckoo Valley Railway it does ensure that it will always arrive on time as the pair of clocks on the roof run backwards!

@@CrystallisedEntertainment Yes it is set but not to max, it is set roughly where the power cross the torque curve. it is just the load that changes the speed a little. the system works very well it is Dave Webb's www.smex.net.au/Reference/AlternatorTraction02.php

It what is described as a 12/24v motor which was really about the speed rating in the original fitment. The voltage regulator has been removed and we re order 96v before we slowed the drive to the alternator down now good for more that 48v
