If you take water from a creek, run it downstream in a pipe, and then return the water to the creek, the people downstream can't really complain. You've reduced evaporation losses on the water running through your property so they actually end up with more water than before.

I appreciate your V2H discussion, Montana. We’ve had our solar panels for seven years here in Michigan and I too have been biding my time, charging my plug-in Prius with the “granny charger” that came with it a decade ago. Yes, so far, bidirectional chargers are just “renderings and empty boxes.” I’ve had no response from SolarEdge after emailing and calling, begging for information. Obviously, the ultimate goal is to have a four-door backup home battery that I can drive to the grocery store in style! Maybe the answer is with the Fisker Ocean that I have a deposit on? One of its many environmental tricks is being V2H outta the box. But, as a Detroiter, I am also curious about GM’s new Ultium Home system that hopefully will work with their new Equinox and Blazer EVs. And perhaps Ford will include other EVs in their Intelligent Backup family. It's nice to know that any EV could potentially do it if the company enables the software. Thanks!

GREAT OVERVIEW... MOST APPRECIATED!! MY WIFE AND I ARE RETIRING IN SEPT AND LOOKING TO POSSIBLY BUY LAND AND/OR A HOME IN NW MONTANA! WE WANT TO HAVE A MICRO HYDRO SYSTEM ON OUR PROPERTY. A COUPLE QUESTIONS PLEASE: 1. When we work with our Realtor in Montana, what should we tell him/her regarding the water supply that we want so we can get the fastest approval for a micro hydro system? * Should we say that we want only properties that have springs, a.k.a. water originating on our property? * And I'm assuming that means natural artesian wells as well correct? 2. Can you give some "basic" or general costs please to help us with pre- planning. * I fully realize that there are many variables and choices but, what would be the general cost of the hydro system in your video above? If you could e-mail us any brochures you have on tips, advice, checklists etc etc it would be most appreciated. Most Appreciated! Why can't a grid tie system automatically shut off from the grid (for safety) when the grid is down, and still be able to provide power to the house?
