And this is the episode that made Ozpin and Salem my favorite characters and also made me start hoping that somehow, Ozpin and Salem's relationship is how they defeat her. After all, it's what started all this, it's only fitting that it helps end it. Since it pretty much confirmed that the original maidens were their children, perhaps part of Ozpin's curse was also inherited, and that's why the maidens' magic goes from host to host? Or maybe he did give four young women powers after they helped get him out of his depression, perhaps reminding him of his four daughters, and they're how he came up with the idea to give the maidens his magic in thanks. One of my biggest questions about the reincarnation thing is, does Ozpin keep his original semblance(if he had one), or does he use the semblance of his current carnation? Does he keep the semblances of his old lives? After all, the souls start separate before merging into one, so how does that work? The gods did also tell Salem how to remove her immortality, by learning the value of both life and death, she would be able to rest. But she instead kept trying to spite them, leading an army to try to kill them. Yeah, they definitely could have done something else, but Salem was also doing everything wrong. But all this adds complexities to both Ozpin and Salem that I love. (I also kinda ship them, but not as they *are* together more like I wish they were *still* together having lived together and changed for the better) but Ozpin doesn't control who his soul goes to, I'm sure many times he got reincarnated into the body of someone who already had a family, which kinda sucks cause it means he's likely lost many families, and I'm sure there's been at least one time his soul entered a woman's body, which must have been weird. The God of Light was trying to follow rules he and the God of Darkness created together, one of which is not to disrupt the balance of life and death. The god of darkness didn't really care for the rules, and was just going to do whatever he looked (as he said) but after hearing Salem lied to him because GoL wouldn't do it he realized Salem was manipulating him to bring Ozma back, she didn't actually believe only he could do it, like she had told him. They punished her for trying to manipulate them, and when the GoD destroyed humanity, GoL wanted to give humanity a second chance he knew eventually they'd evolve back into existence, so he gave Ozma the chance to help them. I don't think the reincarnation was meant to be punishment for Ozma, but it turned into one. Unlike Salem, Ozma didn't do anything wrong and i believe the GoL wanted to ensure Ozma didn't have to go through what Salem did, what he didn't count on was Ozma and Salem doing everything they did. Just my thoughts on this episode. Go back and listen to divide from volume 3 soundtrack with this knowledge and everything falls into place

Actually, if you pay really close attention to the fight with Pyrrha, the Dragon Grimm-Kevin- missed the tower. It was Cinder escaping and elbowing her away that destroyed the tower.

You guys talk about Roman and not thinking of him being a good fighter, but he was capable of fighting fairly well against both Blake and Sun in volume 1, only reason he was beaten so easily in volume 2 on the train is because of how well Blake used the dust with her Semblance, which he was not prepared for.

Trust Love doesn't really appeal to me much but I do really love that 'hope that Lightning will save you from this Gravity'. In a lot of songs (like This Will Be The Day) they compare the singers/protags to lightning and well given that Gravity the name of the episode Ironwood 'fell'. Well XD Some sadistic part of me just really really loves that for some reason~ XD Hero I think might be the sort of person Ironwood sees himself as but well. Demanding those you're protecting to understand over and over kind of hints that maybe, just mayyybe there's something off. This song really is damn incredible though. This track is full of bangers but Hero is definitely a standout no matter what <3 Seeing you two lose you minds over it was very satisfying (you weren't the only one XD). EEEE you got that Brand New Day was about Qrow and Blake! PRAISE! <3 And yeah... those two definitely keep getting kicked down every time they try to climb up. *Yeets hugs in their direction* Poor Nora... Love that disco bop though. XD Until the End is so sad and slow but I love that bitterly hopeful bit at the end. Just... It's so Ruby deep deep down I think. Beautiful, sad but something that still strives and shines no matter what. Casey did such a fantastic job both with the singing and the writing. It's utterly gorgeous and like Hero definitely a massive stand out. Fear is actually my fav track on the list~ Tends to get overlooked which is fair but well. It uses the leitmotif of my fav Oscar (Ozpin has his own lietmotif so its actually solidly an Oscar song -I'm hoping Oz does get his own song eventually though) and it's soft opening tones that shift into that heaver guitar... I just love it so much <3 Storywise I tend to think of it as Oscar singing to both Ironwood and Ozpin and well, we see that the two make very different choices: Oz grows and becomes a hero once more (possibly joining Oscar in the song to others) while Ironwood gives in to his fear and becomes the very monster he should have feared all along. ...I prefer the original personally (I preferred having a bit more energy to it plus I don't think I'll ever get over hearing it during Velvet's crowning moment of awesome and Weiss's first summoning) but I May Fall acoustic version is still damn awesome and perfectly placed given the themes of the volume <3 I think in terms of favs it's: Fear, then a tie between Hero and Until the End, and after that Nora's one, Brand New Day and... Neutral happy on the rest of them. They're cool but the first three are the ones I LOVE. This OST really is one of the best though; never unhappy whenever one of these plays~ <3

Honestly... Yes. If Ironwood truly were acting 'cold but logical' he totally would have ordered Watts and Tyrian's deaths first thing, then the plans to arrest our main cast second but well. He's not well mentally at all and by refusing to admit it he just kept digging himself deeper and deeper. It's honestly quite tragic how close he came to breaking free of this paranoid spiral but well. Props to Cinder for her utterly terrifying timing when it comes to destroying people. *Gives Oscar head pats for trying his best but well. You can't save someone that refuses to be, not matter how much you might want to.* And... I'd say he shot Oscar for the same reason he shot the councilman in volume 8. They accused him of being afraid or wrong and since sheer pride is the only thing shielding Ironwood from being overwhelmed by his own fear, he 'removed' the threats. Really shows how mentally messed up he is in this moment and how flawed his logic is right now. Ahh~ Still. I had a blast watching you guys mull it all over. See your v8 reactions soon~ <3

Fria was only onscreen for a little bit but damn if she didn't impress us all with the little time she had! <3 That sequence from Oscar getting shot to the beginning of Ozpin's speech on the nature of fear might just be my favorite sequence in the entire show. The battles are fun but in this section the way the music swells, the colors and lights, the way we see the eyes light up with magic (gold, green, yellow and silver) and then all the fantastic character moments for Oscar, Penny, Winter and hell even Cinder's desperation..! All of it is just so damn gorgeous..! Then Oz's hauntingly beautiful speech afterwards with Casey's song and the fantastic character to line comparisons, followed by the arrival of Salem and my fav credits song. Hehe <3 I know Gravity is probably the arguably 'best' episode in the volume if not the series but this one will always be among my top favs because of that moment and I'm so glad it seemed to blow you two away just as much. X3

Objection! Not once does Oscar ever refer to himself as Ozpin. If anything he frequently reminds Ironwood that he's not Ozpin and that Ozpin's advice would likely be different than his own, even when it would benefit him to lie and say he's Ozpin. Ironwood is the one that constantly refers to him as Oz, tries to 'jog Oz's memories and essentually dehumanizes Oscar over and over again in order to not have to listen to anything Oscar has to say. I know you guys are joking but I just want it known to all that for all Oscar is actually pretty tricky and good with words, he does that as himself, and pretty much always tries to use honesty rather than lies. *swishes Oscar support banner with renewed fierceness* XD Less 'trust' and more conditioned to follow orders but yeah... I don't really hate the Ace Ops but yeah... They were never going to go against Ironwood here. That World of Remnant vid on Huntsmen mentioning the indoctrination of huntsmen students into the military becomes a little chilling here. Clover I actually view as a tragic foil to Qrow rather than a pure idiot. I think of the Ace Ops he was probably the one that *really* trusted Ironwood given how he refers to him by James and stuff but like Qrow was to Oz before before the Jinn reveal, Clover was blindly loyal to his 'master' and well, if the truth hadn't come out. If Qrow had never had the 'misfortune' of learning how Oz had tricked and lied to him then he could have died in similar circumstances... And Qrow's got to be on some level aware of that given how rage filled he is towards James Ironwood rather than Tyrian. In general though everyone involved in that fight (other than Tyrian anyway) was so emotionally charged they honestly didn't stand a chance of thinking straight. Feelings of betrayal, that the others weren't doing the right thing, the hurt that comes from someone you thought could be someone you could trust turning on you... I feel so sorry for Robyn, Qrow and Clover, and really must -despite myself- give credit for Ironwood for having the *worst* timing, Tyrian for being a truly excellent manipulator like his queen, and the writers for coming up with such a brutally unfair cluster@#$# to fling these characters into <3 (One consequence of Qrow's weapon being used to kill Clover... He'll forever remember that it was HIS weapon, something that Ruby once claimed was like an extension of a huntsman's soul, that killed Clover. Not because of his semblance or drinking but because he made a horrible mistake in the middle of a fight. That's got to be emotionally crippling...) Cinder is unfortunately OP. We forget because well, she's Cinder but yeah. Fortunately she's got super villain disease (first symptom of mass grandstanding and evil speeches while opponents get over their shock definitely there) after being around Salem too long and she doesn't have the required immortality -hopefully anyway- to back that up or else all would be doomed~ XD Thanks again for doing these vids. I'm pretty sure Oscar did tell him about the Lamp because he mentioned that they learned about Salem's immortality from Jinn (aka the spirit of the Lamp) when he was finishing up his explanation to Ironwood. *Waves 'Oscar is a good boi' support flag harder* I... Don't 'think' Salem can attack directly through the Seer Grimm but maybe that mental screaming noise in Ruby's head was a mental attack from the Grimm? The Apathy have shown us that emotion manipulating grimm do exist... Of course the main reason is because she's just learned her mother was murdered by Salem but that breakdown was pretty sudden and the eye flicker was strange so hm. I get the feeling there's some sort of set up in that scene that we're just not getting right now. Agreement that Summer probably thought her silver eyes would do the trick but welp. Definitely wrong. Ironwood's plan has been ripped to shreds by many many people that I'm not going to go into it but the general idea is he wants to lift Atlas into the upper atmosphere in the hopes that the Staff, the Lamp -and him- will be as far away from Salem as possible; no communications tower included. Aka abandoning not only Mantle but the rest of the world as well to defeat her. Or as Watt's and Ironwood's exchange earlier in the episode went: Ironwood: "I will do... *whatever it takes* to stop her..!" Watts: "Oh I hope you do James. I hope you do." Ahhh it's such a horrible thing but the set up is so good..! EEE <3 And seeing the way you two are putting so much effort in to fight that 'WTF mind blown so confused' feeling this episode comes with to work out both what's going on as well as all it's implications is just really fantastic~ Ahh. Definitely heading on over to the next vid with eagerness -and sorrow of course but well. Nothing like RWBY style tragedy to see people how react to-. X3

The sad truth is that yes... Mantle really is that low priority to the people of Atlas... 💔 And yeah... Oscar is definitely benefiting from the merge here but that wise advice is all him. Ozpin, much as I love him, isn't exactly brave in the same way as Oscar is. Ozpin would fight a million battles but being honest and open... He's been too hurt too long for that. Oscar on the other hand is willing to get personally hurt in order to build trust. Both are strong but together unstoppable! -I still don't want the merge to finish though. I like the idea they work together not both die to make something new- Yeah a LOT of people get super attached to Ironwood. He really was the star of the volume and he gets so so close at the end..! But well. 😢Salem's an expert at what she does, and clearly Cinder's been taking lessons too.

Ahhhh Adrian you sheer YAY then NO reaction when it went from the Rennora kiss straight to Watts and Tyrian being absolute evil masterminds was just beautiful! XDDDD But yeah... Poor Penny 💔 And all those murder victims. The fact several of the single moms that flirted with Jaune were among their number just breaks my heart. ;__; And congrats the both of you on catching Tyrian's movements matching the Mantle camera footage. So many people still think Penny was hacked or something like that (despite well, next episode saying otherwise) but you two found the split second in-show hints and even worked out what those meant! Seriously impressive <3 Much props to you Nate for guessing it'd be something like that also. Though... did you spot the regions vote tampering Watts did? It was also split second. Ren's going though... Stuff. Having people be killed just as Nora was maybe possibly getting him to open up via her 'femine wiles' absolutely could not have helped.

The problem alas with 'taking the bad rap for the greater good' in Remnant is that that draws grimm just from the negativity produced and weakens your position politically. Ironwood's constant dismissal of things like his public image and how other people view him is honestly a big blaring warning sign that he's dismissing the very real way those things can hurt others in universe... (Ahh poor James... Someone who definitely got promoted outside his field of competence. He was probably an utterly amazing soldier but damn if command was the worst thing that ever happened to him). Basically the whole 'ends justifies the means' thing should never be done unless one is also very very aware of what should be it's partner phrase: 'the means determine the end'. If you don't keep that very important fact in mind then more often than not all you get is people using the first quote as an excuse to do messed up stuff instead of actually working towards fixing something. Age of 'the kids' babble time! Ruby started at Beacon two years early and her birthday is canonly set on Halloween. She's two years younger than all the others who started Beacon around 17 (possibly 18 if their birthdays were early in the year). Ruby's voice actress went on record saying she was 17 around volume six, which would fit what we know since that first autumn/winter we saw in volume 3 was probably when Ruby turned 16 and volume six it seems we've hit autumn/winter again, and the writers have said Oscar is around two years younger than her so... Ruby said he was 14 on the plane ride to Atlas so likely his 15th birthday takes place during the time skip within Atlas or not long afterwards as there's not really a whole lot of months left in the year for him to only be two years younger than Ruby but still be 14 when she turned 17. (I've heard that recently official birthdays for all the cast have been released but I haven't actually looked that up so er. I'm no help there). Sorry but... I honestly don't really like the Qrow is Ruby's dad theory at all. I can understand the idea of him liking Summer (EnTAIre Team is the best meme ship for real, and one sided pining from someone who believes they're too cursed to end up in a relationship is deliciously tragic) but it's just so rare in fiction to see an older guy just... Care about a kid because they genuinely click, without there secretly being a blood relation to loom overheard like that actually matters or something in comparison to, you know, genuinely being there in that person's life and actually being that parent to them. May I ask why the idea appeals to you? I've seen a lot of people be very excited about the idea but I've just never seen a good explanation as to why they like it so much beyond 'why not'? Note: I do believe secret blood relations can work very well in media but there has to be some sort of reason/plot-hook to really make the trope work like, 'this villain knows the hero is their kid and this affects how they fight or fail to fight the hero' or 'parent and child are separated, then run into each other again, how are they effected', and well. In this case any 'secret' reveal doesn't really contribute anything: They're already close family regardless so no change there, Qrow's got enough going on already with his Ozluminati stuff, his horrible coping mechanisms and self worth issues even without adding something like this on to his backstory, and unless it's done as part of a poly relationship thing it damages the fascinating 'man who lost both his loves' thing Tai has, implies Summer cheated on Tai, or that Qrow flaked out on being responsible for raising Ruby and foisted the job onto Tai which. Yeah. I'm not really a fan of any of that... And... Ok holy crap that's a lot more words than I meant to write. Um. Again loved seeing how you guys tear into everything (damn you just worked out half the volume with all the politics stuff! <3 *mad impressed*) and um. Even with all my blah above I do actually enjoy seeing you guys come up with this stuff; you both are just earnestly having fun with it and I like that~ Just. Explaining my own reasoning for why some ideas don't personally appeal to me. Thank you again for the fun videos~ <3

I love how they use Jacques, a character we all very naturally despise, to smokescreen Ironwood's more 'sketchy when you actually stop to think about it' actions. First in volume 4 it was the embargo and closing of borders, then here the commandeering of private property. I mean 'couldn't have happened to a nicer fellow' and all but damn if it doesn't do a fantastic job of distracting us away from the not so nice implications of it all (and also from us noticing that here Ironwood agrees verbally with Jaune that yes he's right about the embargo causing tensions and then proceeds to do absolutely nothing about it). Honestly it's kind of stunning looking back on it. Lots and lots of foreshadowing and clues but well. James just comes off as so nice and driven that we desperately want to believe he can handle it all when really he desperately needs to IDK take a massive amount of time off, get a different job, get his head screwed back on right, etc. Reasonably reflection aside... BOOO Jacques! I support the motion of shaving off his mustache and shaming him for his clip on tie ways! Your 'OOoooooohhhhhh!'s regarding Wiess's awesome burn towards Jacq-ass were fantastic btw way. So wonderfully done~ XDDD I think Ruby would be among the youngest huntresses in Remnant's history yes. There could theoretically be someone younger who tested out like Maria did but of anyone who actually attended an Academy she's definitely one of the youngest ever. I think the reason Qrow would be chill with what Ruby is doing is because it's fairly close to what the Ozluminati does regarding filling people in about themselves in general. First observing who's trustworthy then letting them in on the 'real fight'; something that pretty much everyone in the Ozluminati including Ironwood is doing right now. Cake cutting Penny, undercover Ruby, Marrow's nicknames and Elm's ENTHUSIASM bring me joy~ <3

Costumes wise... I started out disliking all of them but Ruby's and Qrow's but after all this time, I mostly dislike the lack of fluidity in Blake's hair (I liked the long hair but it was mainly the lack of swish that made me sad), the too many zippers on her outfit, and the weird 'shape' to Yang's outfit. Otherwise though I've grown to be fond enough of them mostly. ...I will always REALLY love and miss Ren's v4-v6 outfit though even if the new one is good. It just looked so nice on him and the gloves were so pretty 💔 Definitely agree that this was likely the same mine where the accident that killed Ilia's parents occurred. Blake would have no reason to recognise the mine otherwise.
