Hi and welcome to Miss Lornas. I'm Lorna and I love to cook and bake foods of all types. Of course, I like to eat too.
Taking the time to share recipes, tips and how I make great tasting dishes, is a labor of love. Sometimes I let others do the cooking for me at my favorite eating spots. I also enjoy cooking for others as a personal chef.

Me
Cooking and baking have been a passion of mine for most of my life. Much of what I learned in my earlier days came from my parents. My dad taught me about tasting and adjusting flavors. My mother taught me the importance of making food look good. She told me "half of the battle of making something taste good is making it look good". I enjoyed culinary lessons that I had early in life, but nothing can beat the lessons I learned watching my elders cook.

During my search, I came across a pancake recipe developed by Alice Currah. I was skep...

How To Make Two Layered Nachos With Ground Turkey and Real Cheese
Can I come over for a bowl? 😁
I was going to make some today but I'm going to add some onions an bell peppers to kick it up a little
This was such a refreshing and professional video. Straight to the point, great calm and clear speaking and the background music paired really well with the content. Oh ya, and I am making Zayarian's tonight but maybe with a little less water thanks to your video.
Been awhile since I used this had a friend give me the recipe which I lost . I’m a whimp how much regular water and extra rice to tune the spicy down alittle you think? Thanks for the info
My dad always used this, but I’ve been nervous to try it. I was thinking of just making a traditional recipe, but I watching this reminds me of before, so I think I’ll give it a try
She don't respond to comments. Fatal move. Selfish
Really? It's not that serious
Lorna is cute. I love her review.
👎🏿
About to try it with ground beef
Thanks for this. I couldn't decide if I wanted this or rice a roni...
I agree, out of the box it is too salty. I add fresh or frozen bell pepper and/or onion to even it out
How do I make jambalaya in my air fryer?
Sorry, I don't know.
I live in canada and my neighborhood dollar store recently started selling these, I love them! I used the first time leftover chicken and calabresa sausage. Then tonight Im using cheap chicken hotdogs and canned tomato sardines. Great video you explained things that werent detailed on the box, thank you!
That's great. I know some people in California would love it if they sold it at the Dollar Tree. 😊
So basically just follow the directions on the box 😂😂😂
Maybe if you drained the sausage and then added the butter or o/o the rice wouldn't have been gummy. I would also add half cup of red beans
I always add a can of red beans to the mix and they leave. And a little bit of crush red pepper and it comes out pretty good.
Hadn't thought of that! What kind of red beans? I know some of the stores around here do sell what they call "red beans." I have seen kidney beans used in videos of homemade, but this mix has beans that are smaller than kidney.
In my experience adding the shrimp too early will make them mussy I add them in the last 10 minutes of cooking that's the only thing I do different on ur delisous recipe
I think the sausage probably made it saltier than if you just cooked it separately. I always add a can of beans too. I got crawfish tails to cook with it but will cook them apart.
What do you do with the strawberries because I see you only use the liquid for the syrup?
Made it pretty good and easy
The first time I cooked this meal it was great but the salt content was a little bit too much for me. So I cooked it a second time and added more peppers, onions to it to absorb some of the salt but maintained that great taste. I like Zatarians product but I'm aware of the salt content also. The problem is where I live stores can't keep it on the shelf depending upon which meal you want to cook. One store I went to someone bought the entire case of gumbo, jambalaya and the red beans and rice. You have to check which store truck comes in to get any of the product. Just saying😅
It's a pretty cheap and tasty meal to make, and easy to add bits and bobs to. All of those mixes great make cheap meals. If you make 2 boxes with meat, plus some cornbread, you can feed a family of four for about $9.
I love it but with less salt.
This video convinced me that making it from scratch the first time was the way to go. Thank you!
You're welcome
Looks good, think I'm going to add some jalapenos too
Do you recommend throwing the shrimp in at the same time with all the other meats or maybe half way through throwing them in ? Nothing worse than over cooked shrimp.
You definitely can throw the shrimp in half way through cooking. Just make sure there's enough liquid in the dish when you add the shrimp.
@@MissLornas thank you Miss Lornas, have a blessed rest of your week/weekend.
@@eddibetty10 You too. 🙏🏾
I'm making some now with earl's and thick backon
Fun tip: Find some cajun flavored Sausage (Hilshire makes some)
4 layers a litter too much only 2 people in my household! Could you use just 2 of those layers?
you cooked the shrimp for 25 minutes? Shrimp takes 5 mins to cook and you are supposed to add it during the last 5 minutes of the low heat simmer.
Thank you ma'am
You're welcome 😊
Thanks ma'am! This was delicious! 😋

Thanks for sharing. 🤩

You're welcome
What’s crazy is I bought all these ingredients before seeing the video! 😂💕 This recipe was perfect and was exactly what I was looking for. Thank you!
I'm so happy it turned out like you wanted it to. You're welcome 😊
Oh! While the box recommends the different types of meat you used, alongside ham, I had not considered adding a mixture of different meats. I thought I was meant to just pick one. Ah well, I always have made mine with smoked sausage so far. There are several flavors and brands, and the combination of those can make or break it for me. Also, 3 pounds of meat for 2 boxes? Nice! I bet it turns out awesome the way you make it, with 3 different meat ingredients, and 50% more meat than the boxes recommend. I always used to use half a pound of sausage per box because I was broke, and only recently moved up to using a full sausage per box, though the size per sausage has shrunk by 2-4 ounces depending on the type.
I have made it with just sausage too. And it was still pretty good. You are probably supposed to use one kind of meat at a time per the directions. I just like to change things up lol. When I am making it to serve as the main course, I add more meat than the recipe calls for. I also try to use the larger/family size boxes of Zatarain's.
Ohhhhh myyyy, woman...this is on another HEAVENLY LEVEL! TY SO MUCH FOR SHARING.
I am so happy you enjoyed it. And you're welcome. 😊
Is it supposed to be so liquidy? It’s almost like a thick soup texture. Not sure I will be using this brand. It’s easy to make your own from scratch.
No, it isn't supposed to have too much liquid after it cooks. Most of the liquid should be absorbed into the rice and beans.
You have to let it set for a bit on the stove with no lid after cooking to get it to set up, in my experience. When I make two packages, I have to cook it a bit longer.
It’s better the next day after making it.
I agree. The leftovers are better.
It was good too I didn't use no meat I used water and butter Hi chicken with it
I'm glad you enjoyed it.☺️
Thank you for a great recipe.
You're welcome 😊
Very simple recipe thanks for your help !
You're welcome 😊
Wow excellent 👍 I'm gonna try tomorrow after work. Thanks for the tutorial
I hope it worked out. And you're welcome.
Simple and delicious. It's raining today and going to make this
This is a good rainy day meal.
I chose this recipe for pineapple cake with butter cream cheese frosting because the instructions were so clear and with tips and explanations. At first, I was intimidated by it being four layers and requiring the extra step of filling on each layer, but it was worth it! I made this cake for a friend's birthday, and everyone couldn't stop raving about it! The moistness and texture were perfect! The combination of vanilla and lemon extract was lovely with the pineapple. I put untoasted sweetened coconut on the sides and a little on top. This is definitely going into my collection of cake choices for birthdays! Thank you, Lorna (and Lorna's sister for advising her to post this video)!
I'm so glad you tried the recipe and enjoyed it.
Is the taste like a poundcake?
@@quenquen200726 The vanilla lemon flavour in the cake part, yes, but even better.
@@wistfulsighs7791 What about the texture?
