What Hunting Is really All about: E1 with Jeremiah Stavne - Producer of Modern Day Mountain Man.
In our first episode of the Hunt XP Podcast, we're coming at you with stories that made us who we are in the field. Our team dives in with introductions and our first deer stories-the ones that hooked us into this lifestyle and still get us out of bed before dawn. We’re sharing a few laughs and hard-learned lessons, especially about the ups and downs of taking kids hunting. We know many of you have been there, too; it’s rewarding, challenging, and a reminder of why we love this community.
Then we bring in Jeremiah Stavne, a true storyteller who’s crafted a life blending his two passions-hunting and filmmaking. Jeremiah’s background in youth ministry led him to the outdoor industry, where he’s made a name for himself behind the camera, capturing those raw, real moments that can’t be scripted. He talks about the power of storytelling in hunting, not just the thrill of the hunt but the journey, the mishaps, and the connections that are at the heart of why we do this.
Jeremiah also pulls back the curtain on what his day-to-day looks like, dealing with the challenges unique to producing hunting content-it's a whole other level of patience and grit. We go deep into the craft, exploring how he’s shifted his focus over the years from the trophy moments to the stories that stay with you long after the season’s over. It's about more than just the shot; it's about the whole experience-the people, the places, and the lessons learned out there.
So if you’re as passionate about the hunting lifestyle as we are, or maybe you’re just looking for a reminder of why it all matters, join us. You’re going to hear stories that feel familiar, insights that make you think, and maybe pick up a few tips along the way.

I love kuiu I have so many things from them
It is great stuff!
90% of the Kuiu products I have I am over the moon happy with. Yes it’s expensive. Yes I’ll have it forever. Yes it will keep me out there longer and happier.
I don’t even want to think about the amount of $$$ I’ve spent.
@@1776carpediem I get it! It's been worth it though.
Great explanation brother. MY first year hunting with a bow and i decided to use schwackers because of how cheap and heard good things about it. I took a 20 yard shot at a smaller deer and that same thing happened I basically blew his shoulder or bone close to it and dropped it right there in its track. My first experience with it has made a memory that I tell my kids and grandkids and many friends. I would def recommend it for people that want a broadhead that is affordable and good.
@@wolftactical5421 right on! That’s awesome man, love that.
The sounds 😂😂😂😂
What’s your go to date night peice and does your person roll their eyes, haha?
Can't wait to hear from this guy.
It’s definitely great stuff. People complain about the price but you won’t get the quality and assorted details and features out of Walmart camo.

Taking dead heads off of public in south dakota is also illegal but awesome to see you guys enjoying SD
@@TD3_Archery your 💯right, and we did not do our research on that before going. I appreciate you commenting that. Best of luck this year!
@huntxp no worries, just don't want you guys getting in trouble lol. I tagged out early east river SD this year, got a west river rifle hunt coming up
@ nice work! A few of us were in western SD earlier this month. Didn't have the luck we were hoping for but still had a blast (video coming). Best of luck with your other tag!
Kuiu for life

Great info
Thanks @Lazzoboy
Welcome to The Family! 🤘🏾
Much appreciated!
Windy or not, I think you should probably have on some blaze orange.
Why , he’s bow hunting.
If I were required to I would man, but I do not need to during archery season (unless there is another firearm season going on. i.e. youth, muzzle loader, or rifle. But that was not the case).
That could be a cell model of a toy baby doll
started using them in a crossbow two years ago. i belong to a group that manages deer in county parks, i am a trad archer normally but use a cross bow for management reasons in parks due to the eficentcy. the last two deer i have taken, past week. the off side leg was almost completely removed, both does were down in seconds and both front shoulder were broken on both deer. if your bow is at or above 90 fps of kinitec energy the deer dont stand a chance. most devasation i have ever seen from any bow hit deer,
@@kendittig6142 thanks for commenting man. This is good insight. How do you get the county parks Managment gig? Sounds fun.
Nothing like a company spelling their name wrong. The Sh should come first not Sw. With this spelling, they are Swackers, not Shwackers. Failed on the details.
They didn’t spell it wrong you’re just saying it wrong 🤦🏻♂️
I know a lot of people like these but I’ve hd bad luck with them and I’m not impressed with the sharpness of the blades. Of course they fly great. I just think there are better options in both mechanical and fixed blades.
But if they fly great, what was your bad luck with them? Don't be blaming a head for a shooter's mistakes.
I love swhacker i jave used the 2in green machine as i call it the 3 blade 1.5in cut expandable which they dont make anymore unfortunately and the 150 grain 3in cut and have had nothing but Great experiences.
Nice video work on ur draw and save ur shoulders
G5 mega meat. All I’ll say.
I took 2 deer with the Megameat last year and they are amazing. I have heard and seen good things about Schwackers too. Shot selection and placement is always the most important thing no matter what broadhead though. Good luck to everyone this year.
All 3 are trash. Mega meats are so delicate bro. Disposable broadheads. I shoot sevrs. Made out of titanium and don't deflect like 3 blades and over the top deploying bh's. Sevrs will penetrate alot better than any other mec. Due to the locking and blade swivel design.
@@michaelbushey2787thanks for the feedback. I’ll have to check those out too.
@@michaelbushey2787and yet some have complained about deflections with sevrs.
sevrs suck@@michaelbushey2787
As soon as i seen this. I had to comment. I'll never use swhaker again. Very risky using these. The entry holes are the size of a .22 . Do they work. Yes. But If you get somewhat of a not so perfect shot and the deer runs off. You better have a hound because you won't find any blood. Also the over the top deploy will deflect your arrow . It done it many times with me. I switched to a rear deploy.
Sorry you had a poor experience. So far so good for me and my kids. I’ll keep rear deploy in mind if I run into a problem at some point. Good luck this season!
the issues you were having may be from shooting them out of a bow that is lacking ke, 90 pounds min and you will be removing limbs on deer, all mech heads need at least 55-60 just to deploy properly, i use them out of a crossbow at 102 fps of ke and am breaking both shoulders and nearly removing front legs on adult does, 2 just this past week. i normally shoot a recurve with magnus stingers but for the crossbow theses work perfectly,
I need to start an archery class. 2 division semi pro state champion, but what would I know?
Good video bud! Just subscribed!!!
Thanks for the sub!
@@steveporteroutdoorsohio4739 looks like you’ve got some cool things going in Ohio Steve. Good luck this year!
@@huntxp your welcome!
What’s the interest in using fixed blades? Are you hunting white tails only or bigger game? The reason I ask about the fixed blades are as hunters we don’t practice for the perfect kill shot.. so why walk into the woods aiming for that.
Hey Ryan, thanks for the question. We are launching a podcast this fall and I’m sure we will delve into this so subscibe and be on the lookout for that. What are you hunting? ;What’s your set up? I have tags for Whitetail and Mule Deer this year. I'll be hunting from the ground, blind, and tree saddle. Before the season starts, I always take a few shots with the broadheads to see how they are flying. I've been using Magnus Stingers ( amzn.to/3BihrHh ). I switched to these fix blades a couple of seasons ago and have had good success (4 pass through shots, and one kill shot in the neck - poor shot on my part but did the job on my 13pointer last year), I sharpen them right before the season starts. I picked up the stingers after the @thehuntingpublic recommended them a few years back. Our team is mixed on fix blade vs. mechanical. Cody: Run’s slick trik ss3’s (amzn.to/3XLms3V) and is starting to shift towards heavy arrow set up. Put a mechanical into a 10 pointers scapula from close and that had him rethink his set up. Jonny has been using swhackers and really likes how they have preformed for him. Quick kills, short tracks… he even mentioned that the processors thought he had used a crossbow based on the damage and penetration for a mechanical. amzn.to/3TwkiTu I’m not sure I fully understand your second question maybe you could elaborate. I aim for just above the heart on a deer. Vital V middle lower third. These are my first 4 shots… so The one a 30 s right where I want to be. 40 was too high for my liking. And the 50 and 60 were father froward than I like but still kill shots. If you hunt deer where are you aiming. I know a lot of folks like to aim a little back and center mass I try to tuck it in and lower. Appreciate the comment man, good luck this year!
"as hunters we don't practice for the perfect kill shot..so why walk into the woods aiming for that" as a hunter myself and a bow hunter i'm extremely confused by your thought process.... if you don't practice for a perfect kill shot, assuming you're aiming at the bottom 1/3 of the animal to account for him to drop, then what are you practicing for? luck? in the hopes you hit it? also where are you aiming?
@@Dunnthedad you might practice for the perfect shot but it will never happen.. animals are unpredictable and no who tf aims lower incase a deer ducks? I’m talking about the choice to use fixed blades. They aren’t reliable and if you don’t believe me find your local trackers who have dogs that track wounded deer ask them.. say do you find more deer that have been shot with a fixed blade or do you find more deployable/mechanical. They’ll tell you mechanical they always find more. A fixed blade is a crutch and “as a hunter” you know as well as I do that we don’t want an animal to suffer for longer then it has to.. I will not and have not ever shot a fixed blade it’s a waste of time unless you’re Levi Morgan. And hell he doesn’t even shoot fixed blades he shoots shwacker.. so if you’d kindly sit your ass back down
@@Petrock51 lol of course the animal has a say....its a living creature. but my point still stands. look up any, ANY bowhunter ideal shot placement. bottom 1/3 going right behind that front leg in the crease isn't what they recommend though right. it's 2024 bro just look up aim points on deer and you'll see you're mistaken there. as far as mechanical vs fixed blade. doesn't really matter. what matters really is that your arrow is heavy enough to go through the deer. doubt you'll watch this but i'm sure you'd appreciate this knowledge in this video th-cam.com/video/PH4FWY-YEHY/w-d-xo.html now sit your ass down and do some research mr high and mighty.
@@Dunnthedad 3 minutes into the video the “doctor” said all arrows had mechanical broadheads.. so again what the hell are you arguing? Nobody aims for the shoulder dude I seriously have no idea what we’re even arguing about anymore! The point I’m making is a deer is NEVER going to be standing the way you’re shooting at targets. So why would you risk using a fixed blade that is giving you 1 inch of cut vs 2” of even 2.5” the new deadmeat broadheads have 3 1.5” blades. If you do the math that’s 4.5 inches of cutting diameter all around.. the beast broadheads which are a spring deployed at over 940 MPH are literal beasts.. I’m saying a deployable/mechanical broadhead is ALWAYS gonna kill more deer than a fixed blade.. that’s my point

The mule deer population in South Dakota is in dire population straights. The absolute worst thing for you to shoot was a doe.
I get that sentiment Cory, and can appreciate it. We were unaware of the state of the herd before going. Learned a lot on this trip. We'll be more aware an selective if we come back. We are grateful for the meat in the freezer though. Thanks for tuning in. Are you an SD resident?
@@huntxp I am a SD resident. They don't publish anything about the drastic decline in mule deer numbers that I know of. They don't talk about why or how to fix it. I believe it is a combination of CWD, the state and tribes both giving way too many tags. The whitetail bounce back fast but the mule deer are not as resilient. I am not sure if the whitetail expansion hurts the mule deer or not.
Thanks for that insight Cory. Did you have any luck this year?
@@huntxp We live on private land in Mellette Co. Seen a few mulleys but no matter what we would not harvest one. If someone did on our land they would be banned for life. There are a lot of whitetails and the trophy quality is pretty high in the right places. I am picky and took a cull whitetail buck.
@@CoryRizzMMA you’re a snooty one ain’t ya get out of here with that. Living in a state doesn’t mean you own the “herd” they bought tags and you watched a video. Go lobby to your local Councilman or county leaders not pick on these guys here. You use nice words but aren’t. They want to say it but you’re technically a customer anyway. In upstate ny my neighbors slaughter everything only yearling whitetail around what can you do nothing. They have tags, you’re crying and have 2 species 😂😂
