Park Street Station: Our walk begins at Park Street Station, Boston’s oldest subway station and one of the oldest in the United States. Opened in 1897 as part of the first subway system in the country, Park Street Station sits at the heart of the Boston Common and serves as a major hub for the city’s Green and Red subway lines. Its location and history make it an integral part of Boston’s transit system.
Boylston Street to Harrison Avenue: We continue our journey down Boylston Street and take a turn onto Harrison Avenue, passing through a vibrant mix of modern buildings and historic architecture that showcases Boston’s ever-evolving landscape.
Chinatown Gate and Lion Dance Performance: As we reach Beach Street in Chinatown, we arrive just in time for the Lion Dancers’ performance in front of the Chinatown Gate. Three lions, featuring kids of various ages as performers, bring energy and tradition to the streets. Lion dancing is an important part of Chinese culture, symbolizing prosperity, luck, and the warding off of evil spirits. It’s yet another fantastic example of Boston’s multicultural diversity and the rich traditions that thrive in its neighborhoods.
