I'm sorry (haters are gonna hate), but anyone who thinks that this is a good bass cover is kidding themselves. He made that many mistakes (it's like half the time he didn't even know the song that well) that you can barely say that he pulled off the "easy version" of the song (just playing the notes with the chords). I know that this is supposed to be a "cover", but I've just transcribed the bass part for the song (the real bass part), and it's nothing like this or any other bass cover of the song that I've seen on TH-cam. He might be able to use his fingers kind of fast, but it was too fast for the slower parts and not fast enough for the fast parts, so it's really just to show off, I think. You also can't play it properly on a four-string bass (7:15 demonstrates this) - it requires a five-string bass, though still in standard tuning. Anyway, sorry, but that's my take on it.
First off, the bass in Through the Fire and Flames is a 6-string. Second, "The real bass part" is trash by itself, it's filled with punch ins and outs, it's far from perfect. The real reason bass in TTFAF has been made so quiet was mostly because of that (you can barely hear it, most notable in "blood in our hands" part). Herman Li wasn't happy with the bass, so IIRC he himself took another bass and changed some bits. Adrian played it with his fingers whereas Herman used a pick.
Frédéric Leclercq, the current bass player, wasn't in the band at the time, and he predominantly just uses four-string basses - that, and he doesn't really care too much for the songs that he didn't record on. The bass player at the time, Adrian Lambert, predominantly used six-string basses.
Joshua Wynne oh god i laughed too hard at this comment You’ve transcribed it and it sounds nothing like that 😂😂😂 gold Upload a cover yourself with a “correct bass line” because this sounds fine. I’m not in love with this cover but I highly doubt you could do any better. Have you seen any of the other bass covers? They’re far worse. Should probably listen to yourself quite a bit before commenting
Great, perfect
Wow...a simple bass pattern but sounds so good

It's just for fun man! I'm not a pro. Just record this video in one take, not trying to join the band or something. Just for fun.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if the song is meant to be played on a 5 or 6 string, why does the bassist always play it on 4 string live?
