Great point on the mopping! No one has mentioned this. Thank you!
Glad you found it helpful.
Find my phone now charges. Just say where's my phone and it will call it for free
Good to know, thanks
Awesome video. I like how you keep this simple too. A lot of the home automation guys run their system with a dedicated home assistant server or something, but it looks like you just use Alexa for everything, which is what I want to do
Glad you found it helpful 👍
Thank you - what I would like you to help us with is; how to ensure that ruties will work ALL the time, because now routines stop working until one reset the devices to make it work - how to make Amazon embbed AI in ALL devices to ensure no lose of connections with the router.... yes, something useful rather than given operations.
Good
Where’s your Alexa skills store is placed? ‘Cause mine is in Italy and I cannot find most of these great skills you’re rising up in the video 😢
I’m in the UK
How do I find specific information about the setup of these automations on Reddit? Did they give detailed instructions?
Does the Broadlink RM Pro 4 work with HA, Apple Home, or just Alexa?
Bought! Thanks, appreciate the UK content.
Has anyone tested if it is better to vacuum and then mop separately or does the vac/mop setting where it does it at the same time just as effective? I have been doing a schedule where it vacuums and then an hour later it mops thinking maybe this cleans better? Not sure if this has ever been tested or if anyone has user experience.
Your presentation is short and clear, thanks BTW, do you think it is possible to only connect the L1 switch wire to a regular bulb, and leave L2 unconnected? What I want to achieve is: - When I press the L1 button, the regular bulb will turn on/off. - When I press the L2 button, the smart bulb (which already has a power supply) will turn on/off.
I also wonder about this
Thank you for the video, very useful !
I got an echo dot 5th gen and it says I need a gateway to control my bulbs without a remote, is this correct? The dirigera gateway would cost me 60 bucks
It will work with the echo 4th gen or any other echo with a built in Zigbee hub. The dirigera gateway is expensive.
All of these are worthless to me except find my phone lol
😂 I’m glad you found one of them useful

Anyone else accidentally buy the one that doesnt stick?
hello amazing video. Well done. I have question. If we have 1 light but we will buy the double rocker H1, can we use the 2nd switch for more smart scenes??
I have the Phillips Hue Bridge and I was wondering if I get a Bridge do I get rid of my Phillips Bridge?
At the wall switch, all we have is the switch live cable and the light out. I guess the switch live would go into the 'L' terminal?
Great Video & well done!
I tried creating a routine last night. I don't know what I did, but I had to REBOOT EVERY SINGLE ALEXA DEVICE IN THE HOUSE this morning., and I'm not exactly a newbie at this tech stuff. Hopefully it was just a coincidence and we had a power flash or something.
Did you have the pro version yet
I havnt find yet a review of moist sand on the floor. S8 wasnt able to suck it up on max mode.. Every dog owner should have a sandpaper floor ?
nice video. One suggestion. Add your automations. Some of those projects would be great to do but folks are lazy or just don't have a clue.
Thanks for the suggestion 🙂
Nice review. Still going strong?
@philkelly8261 Yeah, it’s great 👍
Can this work with Philips Hues? (With a Hue Bridge) ? Does this just mean I have to pair to HomeKit/GoogleHome Apps (either) and since the lights are there then it'll work together? but i also mean that this device won't be seen by the Philps Hues App/Bridge setup right?
If you have the Aqara Hub, you should be able to expose it to HomeBridge, but aqara is natively supported in HomeKit. It does work with Hue Bulbs. In the Aqara app, there is an option to convert to "Wireless." So when you press it, it doesn't actually take power away from the bulbs. It just runs a shortcut that turns the bulb itself to 0% brightness. So you still can control the bulb through HomeKit/HomeBridge, and dont get the cant find device you get with normal switches being pressed. (I think you may need the neutral version for this functionality, though)
Great thanks
Hope you found it useful 👍
When I select other it asks me to set up a zigbee hub and whichever option I select it prompts me to have a zigbee hub or it will not proceed. I have echo 4th gen. What do I do
@stockonomics1016 Try turning the echo 4th gen off and back on and try it again. If that doesn’t work move the echo 4th gen closer to the bulbs for set up once they are set up you can move it back to its normal place. Hope this helps
I have quite a lot of Aqara stuff it has one major weakness in the UK... No smart plugs or wall sockets! It ends up with you having to make complicated bridges with your smart home assistant.
So far I have managed to get around this by pairing it with Alexa and using IFTTT, the downfall to this over home assistant is that if my internet goes down then so does my automations, but on the plus side it’s fairly simple to set up. I agree though it’s definitely something they could add to their range.
@@RicksTechReviews of course iftt is an additional cost. But the real issue is if say you want to use the light and motion sensor to activate a lamp only when light levels are low...Alexa can't see the light levels from the sensor so it can't bridge it. You can put a relay behind a socket to make it smart but the aqara ones are only rated to 10a UK requires 13a
One thing not mentioned is how you can use it with a metal bead chain that has a connector in the middle to join the two ends. The blind has a sealed cog wheel which the connector cannot pass through. The smart blind device has a cog that the connector also cannot pass through. The length of the chain between both cogs is not enough to fully open and close the blinds and it's already at the lowest part of the window recess. How do you solve that?
The only workaround I can suggest is buying a new chain for the length you need. These are available on Amazon. I didn’t have this issue with mine personally, sorry I’m not able to help more
“I don’t have many viewers and I want you all to be safe” is an excellent thing to say. You’re a good bloke.
do they have a dimmable version of these for downlights?
No not at the moment, it just has the ability to turn lights on and off and trigger routines using IFTTT.
Great use of the T1 cube
@FritzHTS Thanks 👍
Hi, thanks for the video, problem I have is how to set these ideas up in Alexa. Can you create a video showing step by step how to do it please? There are so many videos on similar subjects such as this one but as a novice, how do I do it? If you can demonstrate it , I for one would be very interested.
@gashead2 Hi, yes I can do a video on how to set up Alexa routines. I do think some of the these automations will require a bit more control like using the Aqara app with the Aqara contact sensors or using the smartthings hub or home assistant. But especially for the routines I have in my home I’m more than happy to make a video showing how to set them up.
@@RicksTechReviews thanks, I am buying various smart items such as the BroadLink pro and a zigbee gateway. Just not sure how all this works together, I imagine I am not the only one, thanks
@gashead2 no you’re definitely not, I’m still learning. The broardlink a great addition, which Zigbee gateway did you go for?
@@RicksTechReviews can’t remember but will let you know. I did think that Alexa has a zigbee built in but don’t know how to use it?
@@gashead2 certain Echo’s do have a built in Zigbee hub I have the Echo 4th gen with the built in Zigbee hub. There’s also one I the echo plus and the echo show 10.
How did you control the fireplace ? Smart plug inside the wall or ir?
@TechWithTony I use both, I have a smart plug that switches the socket on then a 5 second delay before the IR blaster switches the fire on
I have a favorite automation. I have an autistic child, so I have a voice cue on Alexa “It’s about that time” rings a bell, turns up the volume and says “1, 2, 3 red light!” Then turns all my living room bulbs to red. Alexa then says “In 10 minutes it’ll be time to go upstairs.” Then the lights will turn back to white, and I have it on an 8 minute wait. When the 8 minute wait is done it repeats the process to give him a 2 minute warning and reminds him to clean up his toys. The lights then turn and stay yellow. Then goes to a 2 minute wait. Once the two minute wait is up, it repeats, turns all the living room lights red and then turns all the lights on to his room. His room light will change green which gives him a visual cue to put on PJs. At that point all the lights downstairs turn off (except the ones leading upstairs). The lights leading to his room turn off after 10 minutes. There are other colors that indicate bath night or story time, and those have their own starting phrases but the same over all process. It took a little bit to get him on the routine but it has our bedtime fights down to near zero. And when he’s tired, he can (and will) initiate it himself.
@OverLord-yf3zh I love this! It’s great that the visual cues are so helpful for him. Thanks for sharing.
I have actually just implemented a variations of the doorbell flashing the lights. I have 2 doors into my house and a video doorbell on each. But for some reason I have no idea why companies insist on making the same chime for all the doors. So I have it set up so that the front door the lights will flash red and the back door will flash green. (A variation on the port and starboard light colours as I couldn't find one for bow and stern).
@gjheydon that’s a really cool idea. I’m thinking about switching to the lights because my dog goes crazy when he hears the doorbell.
Lightwave all day, every day ;)
I will have to try them
Sure brother 😅
😂
Hey! What about Matter? Does it khm matter?
@nagyba Hi, at the minute the H1 does not support Matter
Are you saying that the lights that are attached to this switch can be turned off and on using the switch, but the power is still applied to the light fitting constantly? What about if you have a 3 gang switch?
@David-bl1bt Hi, no the light fitting only has power when the switch is pressed or you ask your voice assistant to switch on the lights or if a routine is triggered. Other than that there is no power to the fitting. Hope this clears it up.
@@RicksTechReviews That's not true. This is the non-neutral wire switch. That means that there is always a very small current passing through the switch to the light fitting. This has to be the case otherwise the switch itself would not have a complete circuit, and would not work. In the UK the main neutral wire is in the light fitting, so in order for a complete circuit (for the switch to be powered), the live in has to go through the light fitting (L1 or L2), to reach the neutral in the light fitting itself. Circuits 101. So that small current is possibly enough to allow your smart bulb connected to the circuit to have constant power. If the switch only passed a current when the switch was ON then your smart bulb would lose power (Same as dumb switch)
@@Gixer750K2 Thanks for explaining that. Much appreciated
@RicksTechReviews surely if this is the case then it defeats the object. If there is no power to the fitting that has smart bulbs, then they will be offline and therfore cannot be controlled by a voice assistant. There needs to be power to the smart bulbs for them to function as smart bulbs!
@@David-bl1bt I have included activating the smart switch to on before my other automations in my routines so when I ask for say my lights to go into movie mode the lights on my media wall will trigger on first and then it will dim the smart bulbs. Other people may do this differently but that is how mine is set up.
I am a big fan of Aqara products, and Synching my aqara hub to a smartthings hub has really opened things up. Big fan of their sensors too.
@OverLord-yf3zh yeah I am quickly becoming a big fan of Aqara. I seem to be adding more devices to my home
I have the single version. The light will turn blue when paired but weirdly, it only comes on when the light is on. I would have preferred it the other way around. Lol
@neverman3398 Yes maybe this is something they could do a software update on in the future to give people a choice. I like the light is not too bright or eye catching.
@@RicksTechReviews it just seems odd that way around. Lol
I’m curious about the Boradlink for the fireplace. I have a Heat N Glo with an infrared remote and no wall switch. Do you think Broadlink would work for that? I’ve tried the relay switch and smart plug combo with no success.
@Slipknot45 If it is an infrared remote then the broardlink should be able to learn the remote signal so you are able to use Alexa
Cool
Thanks, glad you liked it
Lack of replaceable battery makes this a no-go for me. They expect me to either throw it away or leave a dangling USB cable? No.
@robertfeliciano5723 It’s not for everyone I guess. I do think a replaceable battery makes sense though, hopefully in a future version.
