Marineland of the Pacific park (ca. 1965) - 8mm film reel
มุมมอง 104 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
Marineland of the Pacific was an oceanareum theme park that ran from 1954 through 1987. It was eventually purchased by Sea World San Diego. Here you can see dolphins, beluga whales, and seals. This footage does feature animals jumping through flaming hoops and other attractions which would be considered unethical today. - See Show Notes at www.AaronBossig.com Follow me on BlueSky & Instagram - ...

It's a silent reel, as noted in the disclaimer at the start of the video
The initial speed is definitely too fast. The "1/2 speed" is closer to natural. Did you digitize with a machine that captures each frame as an image and creates and MP4 from that? I have used a Wolverine MM100PRO and obtained reasonable results from it. About 20 years ago we were buying any 8mm, Super8, and 16mm films we could find that featured the Mine Train. We had them digitized by a camera shop near us. The product was passable but not as good as it could be with more modern equipment. Part of the issue is the slightly incompatible frame rates between film and a video camera. But with the videos we managed to make a 20-minute film with iMovie HD to recreate the experience of riding the Mine Train in the early 1960s. Occasionally we had to use older clips and stills for parts that were not available. Some still are not. As most know, a typical 8mm film was passed through the camera twice. On one side it was possible to record about 2:10. The reels were flipped over (hopefully in a dark place) and another 2:10 of recording was possible. This meant that when processed and spliced the total run time was 4:20 - about half of what was needed for the typical 9-minute Disneyland ride. One of the films we bought had over-achievers who rode it twice to get different portions. Many beginners were "masters of the jump shot" where they held the trigger for a couple seconds and then had another scene for a couple seconds and so on. It is frenetic to watch like the early scenes with the flowers, etc. More experienced film makers would hold the trigger for a total of 10 to 30 seconds and pan slowly over a scene. Our camera had a wind-up mechanism and an escapement to keep it running at an even rate until the spring wore down. But probably others were not so even in timing. The really old movies had a hand-crank and the skill of the operator affected the result (and the film used per minute). Thank you for sharing it. I didn't seen anything particularly new. But you never know what treasures will be seen when a film comes in from eBay.
Yes, I used a very similar machine to capture this. I'm still learning the subtleties of the tech, as well as what editing techniques best serve this type of material. This whole reel seems to be an effort to capture an entire weeklong vacation into a single 3-minute movie. That's why I decided to replay it at half-speed... it was the only way to make the footage intelligible.
@@HungryTrilobyte Silent 8mm film was generally shot at 16 frames per second. A lot of the machines like the Wolverine or Kodak Reels & Reelx turn out a 20 FPS file that needs to be slowed to 16 in an editor.
Walter Lantz never actually made a "Pierre Bear" series. This was Castle Films' idea. They took any Lantz cartoon that had a bear in it and repackaged them as "Pierre."
Nice transfer, but some serious problems with oxidation spots on the film. Probably caused by the after-effects of improper processing or washing 70 or so years ago, when this print was struck. Nothing you can do about that.
Agreed--- yep, not much that can be done. I'm thankful this happened to footage where a better, more complete version already exists.
Short Version
I remember watching old toons like this and noticing how much darker the content/story line could be compared to toons of the 90s of my childhood. That weed was held bent on choking that little flower to death Interesting animation though all the same
This reminds me of me pretending to be an adult at age 5
❤
This was a nice conversation. Ellie and Sean are my favorite presenters from Who/Trek Culture. Would love to see a similar conversation with Sean.
I've heard all these stories so many times but it never gets old. Glad you got to share your grandfather's story. ❤
Aaron, you are a wonderful listener. The openness of your expression indicates how well you are paying attention. Very importantly, your attention is proven in your timely responses. You aren’t holding to some point from previously in the discussion and your comment grows from the moment when you are invited back into a speaking role. That is the hardest part and you’re nailing it! It is so difficult to have a good comment and swallow it in favor of demonstrating more respect for the one speaking. That is the mark of a proper interviewer. You may miss the chance to add some spice, but you aren’t the cook!
Thank you so much for that. It's exactly the goal here.
How does one pretend to acceptance? I’m convinced we come into these things backwards and in very small bites. What is the process? I think the answer is the Ho’oponopono. Check it out. You’ll like it! His name was Doctor Lem, I think.

Anybody who takes a long pause in a conversation the way Miss Trimpert did at 21:08 is searching for her truth. That is the mark of sincere communication. The only inventive part of that is finding the words to express oneself in an unfamiliar way. That is genuine right there!
Philosophers… My favs are the Stoics. That’s practical information there, but to Miss Trimpert’s point, Diogenes was known to miturate in public upon the legs of near strangers. They made Socrates drink Hemlock for a reason. Christ was tortured and hung for the same reason. I would say reasons, but there is just the One really, and knowing it does not help a person if they are not willing to help themselves by fitting themselves into the space around them more often. As to turning people off, to use extremes to make a point rhetorically is almost always wasted effort. “If I must sell you everything right away…” Nailed it!! I talk too much! I always have. Sharing is constantly what gets me in trouble. It is because I’m not taking my own advice. To make a case using emotion and strength and confidence, too much, totally offends me. What is my problem? I know better than to push so hard, but it carries across in my language… This is precisely because I’m assuming my listener will respond in my own chosen manner, like I am them. I’m expecting my listener to be me when I push the way I do. I get it! They aren’t me, but they do deserve that same respect. And I’ll never see that if I use my emotions to make such strong cases in my own defense…. As if I’m a victim. Using extreme language lends me the voice of the victim. What?! Oh no! I’m off the hard sell.
“In less than sixty seconds, you’ve managed to connect philosophy and modeling.” I’m liking the beginning here.
“You do not need qualifications to discuss philosophy… All you need is a brain.” I’d put it differently and point the finger. That is well said.
what a gamer
The psp can emulate gba and gbc. It would match your aesthetic too
Cool stuff
Had so much fun, thanks for having me again!

Great discussion 🎉

Good questions
Loved this, John! In the world we live in, we all are looking at "serial" careers. "do your best and have fun" - I can live by that motto.
Very informative. It's a shame that so interesting interview has so little views.
Great interview!
Alyssa All country proud of u Safe journey and happy journey
This keeps showing up on my FYP and i have no idea it has 5 views 💀
good one!
Great Interview! And YES - Some of the sexism in TNG is way worse than most of the 60s Trek. Speaking of whch, the Batman Audio Adventures Matthew speaks of has Brent Spiner as an absolutely chilling Joker.
Ian ebegged his medical bills.
Medical bills suck.
👍
Neat conversation! Me and the missus are gonna check out "Christmas Dragon" tonight.
I really enjoyed this! Thank you both so much! Congratulations to Marc and all the cast and crew, and I hope editing goes well. I absolutely want to see it! I'm a horror fan. 🎃

Yay! I love it. Waterslides, so fun!
That was epic!!!!
I had a BLAST doing this, my friend!
Thank you! I really enjoyed this. 💜
Ok I have to do a separate comment: The episode where Worf says "we don't talk about that" in reference to the physical differences in Klingon appearance is a DS9 episode, not TNG. Don't want you wondering where that episode "went" when you finally watch all of TNG. ...And the subsequent answers are in Enterprise. I just binge watched both for the first time this past year, so it's a bit fresh. Truly, truly loved DS9. I was pleasantly surprised.
I flipping love Shirley Henderson. She could literally walk in right now, ask me to marry her and I wouldn't question the insanity of the situation: "This lady's smart, talented and funny as hell, she must have a good reason. Let's do this."
If I had a time machine for the purpose of precious pop media, I'd copy-archive all the Doctor Who episodes on a secure database.
Thank you both for this interesting conversation. It was good company while I worked on a project.
18:08 I saw your post on AA #33812 they have no idea lol
