Project Recover searches for, finds, and repatriates Americans MIAs, in order to provide recognition and closure for families and the Nation. Project Recover has located more than 30 US WWII aircraft and one US destroyer associated with a combined total of more than 170 MIAs in global missions. Working in full cooperation with host nations and the DPAA, Project Recover has helped repatriate 13 MIAs. In 2021, our mission will expand to include recoveries.

In Their Shoes - Welcome Home LT Jay Manown - PUBLIC
There are still over 81,000 Americans missing in action (MIA) from WWII and since. Over 5,000,000 of their family members still wait for answers. For over 30 years, Project Recover has searched the world for our MIAs in order to provide recognition and closure for families and the Nation. “In Their Shoes” tells the powerful story of three women, each the closest living relative of a WWII Avenger crew member lost for over eight decades after being shot down over Palau in enemy territory. Through the efforts of Project Recover, a nonprofit dedicated to finding and repatriating missing service members, the plane and its crew are finally brought home. Stepping into the shoes of their grandmothers, the three nieces honor these young men and meet for the first time at the memorial of LT Jay Ross Manown Jr., the last crew member to return home. Together, they weave a narrative that bridges the past and present, offering a moving testament to the bonds that endure across time and loss.

Very well done Project Recover.
Keep up the great work. Humbles an individual watching your videos.
All the way
Well Done! This was excellent to watch and hear this story.
Nice video! It’s an honor to be part of the team that found this crash site! Welcome home
Echo your feelings “V”! Gotta love this team that evolved from the old BentProp organization. Hope we can find the rest of the Dixon crew.
This is a wonderful, personal remembrance. Good job PR!
Same here! I was researching my mom's brother Richard Eugene Eacobacci, age 22, who was shot down over Leyte Dec. 11, 1944. He sent me declassified logs that contained all kinds of info I never knew, nor did my mom. I also have every letter my dad, a navy man, sent home to his parents. I haven't sat down and read them yet but I did start scanning them. Great story. Great organization.
It's so shocking to learn that of the over 400,000 U.S. service members that were lost during WW2 around 72,000 were MIA. That's almost 20%. That's a lot of families that haven't had closure for generations until organizations like Project Recover can give them that closure they so desperately need and deserve!
My Dad and I got to go on a 2-week dive trip to Palau and Truk in early 2008. It was truly life changing. I have a bunch of mediocre photos (and thankfully, a handful of really good ones). But I do wish I'd better prepared myself with knowledge of what the Marines went through at Peleliu (I learned most of it while there) and that I'd done a better job of documenting it.
Wow what a video. And the sound track is excellent
Great film! Excellent work Project Recover!
The interview with the Japanese officer is remarkable, if deeply unsettling. Amazing historical document.
The interview with the elderly Japanese officer is genuinely remarkable.
Just watched the documentary 'To What Remains ' im speechless but thankful for what you all do 🙏🏽
Man O man how'd I miss this gem???? I am a fanatic over second World war color footage as well as an avid scale modeller and this stuff is fantastic! I've never seen color footage of the death dealers before answered a question I had right away, Painted prop spinner or natural metal? Both of which show up white in B&W footage.
I found out about Project Recover from Expedition Unknown and will never forget about it and will try to support it. Thank you for your service.
Beautiful
As a USAF Civic Action Team member I spent 8 months at Chuuk Lagoon in the '90s. Incredible history without a doubt. One guy on our team had been out there years earlier and told us about diving on Japanese ships with skeletons every where. Night diving, he said, was especially "interesting". Ran annim!
Interesting. There must be research and photos from these dives somewhere.
My uncle Richard John Pushman was one of the three shot down over Okinawa on April 29th 1945 along with Perkins and Berg.. His picture is listed on the Honor States website..
Audio is crap
If their names remain only known to God, all Americans owe them eternal gratitude
That poor ship lead a rough, short life.
Derek! I communicated with you yesterday on a short vid. For some reason, I was vaguely familiar with what you guys were doing, but I couldn't pinpoint it, then, I remembered watching "something similar" on 60 Minutes back in 2014- lol! I had forgotten all about that 60 Minutes piece, as it has been 9 years. I just rewatched it! But, I now realize that Bent Prop is now Project Recover! Good to see you guys continuing to stay active and form the alliances you have. Anyhow, keep up the great work!👌
Thank you, Ed. There is an entire team of individuals at Project Recover committed to this promise. This mission resulted in the recovery of the remains of Jimmie Doyle as well as seven other crew members. Three of the crew were believed to parachute from the aircraft. We believe that they were captured and ultimately executed. We continue to search for their internment location.
We changed the name of our non-profit from the BentProp Project to Project Recover in 2018.
Harrowing and fascinating simultaneously! Amazing how the past speaks to us from these underwater wrecks!
Thank you, Ed. We believe that it is important to keep these stories alive and to share them broadly. So much can be learned on so many levels. We truly appreciate your support and engagement.
How did know it was Jimmie Doyle . Did they find his dog tags?
JPAC, now DPAA, did the recovery operations at this site and here is the short story; www.dpaa.mil/News-Stories/News-Releases/PressReleaseArticleView/Article/601962/airman-missing-in-action-from-wwii-is-identified-doyle/
Thank you for the story about the DNA. My dad was there in the Marines.
Thank You for this. My Uncle, was of the Soldiers found and Repatriated Home from this ❤
EXCELLENT!

wonderful video and wonderful work. it’s a blessing there are such people who selflessly work to find the missing
Well done, thank you for what you are doing. Andrew
Keep it going! Thx for your efforts! Andrew

yes we have a process to volunteer, www.projectrecover.org/apply/

I love seeing how inspired all the students are. This is a great example of how diverse the team needs to be for these missions to find and locate the MIAs to be successful.
This entire story is so powerful and full of emotion. Watching Tetsuji Katsuyama being interviewed about the POWs and their execution really moved me. To see the other side of the story so many years later and hear how he saluted the grave was incredibly interesting to hear.
This is amazing work. The new technology will hopefully make it easier to find these MIAs and bring them home.
My father Bud Daniel was flying wingman for cowboy stout when he was shot down and killed
It was an honor to have met Bud a few times! This is coming up this week, Cowboy Stout's nephew and Henry Sledge th-cam.com/video/XhXxWXMeUXo/w-d-xo.html
I was 11 years old when I first met Col. Conger. I caddied for him and his friends at the little golf course on MCAS Kaneohe Bay. He I would be in the clubhouse early Saturday mornings, and even though he would have preferred to spend some time alone, he talked, answered my questions, and treated me with kindness. Also bailed me out of a monster jam when I got to close to the runway on a walk with my little brothers. Just had the MP's pick us up and take us home. No harm, no foul. Anybody else would have jacked my father up for my transgressions, which was the custom in those days. You didn't see the fighter pilot, you just saw the man.
thanks for the Smiling Jack stories! Good to hear from you again. Last time was 2007. Blue Skies.
So moving. A great overview of a valuable initiative.
God bless them, both the searchers and the MIA.
Thank you so much for what you do and for what you did for our family.
I recommend highly recommend swift fixed on Instagram for the good job he is doing he never disappoints
Your Team rocks it....Proud of all of you for your efforts.....thx, Andrew
Thank you so much!
Thanks for the work you do! Andrew
Great stuff, thx, Andrew
From an ROV Supt......awesome work! Thx, Andrew
Only in this type of scenario do you find gratification in a church or a funeral. While there is no pay for doing work such as this, you can't put a price on "THANK YOU".
I participated in a teacher seminar aboard the Midway. Great to see the Midway team up with Project Recover to provide a great experience for students. With what the Midway and Project Recover does the educational opportunities are endless.
Nah its just a waste of money
