Ki Hinei Kachomer

One of the most beloved Chabad tunes of the High Holidays is Ki Hinei Kachomer, a melody of three stanzas with a musical charm all its own. Originally sung without words. the chossid Reb Aharon Charitonov of Nikolayev, Ukraine, one of the famous composers of Chabad melodies, would sing this tune to the words of this poem recited in the Yom Kippur evening prayers.
Yaale Tachanunaynu
มุมมอง 1.1K3 ปีที่แล้ว
This poem is recited on Yom Kippur after evening prayers, and is based on the Hebrew alphabet in reverse. Sung in three sections in which we beseech the Almighty for mercy and express our faith in His eternal grace. This melody is very appropriate for the text of "Ya'ale Tachanuneinu" - May our supplications arise, and has been sung at the synagogue of the Rebbe for many years. It is also sung ...
Model Shofar Blowing

Model Shofar Blowing Get ready for Rosh Hashanah and watch a demonstration of the Shofar blowing service, which includes the preliminary verses, the blessings and the sounding of the shofar. A shofar is a trumpet made from the horn of a kosher animal with the marrow removed. The central mitzvah of Rosh Hashanah (the Jewish New Year) is to hear the shofar being blown-often in synagogue, ideally ...

This text is from the High Holiday eve liturgy. The melody brims over with penitence and joy of the spirit. The Rebbe introduced it on the holiday of Simchat Torah of the year 1955. It was in the wee hours of the morning, following the nightlong traditional dancing with the Torah. The Rebbe used the opportunity to urge all of the assembled to add in their study of chassidic teachings. He then e...
Avinu Malkeinu Chaneinu
มุมมอง 1.3K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Avinu Malkeinu perfectly encapsulates our relationship with G‑d: If we relate to Him as a father, we may assume that our sins are easily forgiven, which might lead to laxity in fulfilling His commands. But if we view G‑d solely as an all-powerful king, we may not understand that He is interested and invested in our welfare on a personal level. Our relationship with G‑d is uniquely two-fold: we ...
Rachamana Deonay

From a concluding prayer in the Selichot service. The opening bars reveal the remorse of the remorseful spirit, while the conclusion voices a strong hope for the acceptance and fulfillment of the worshippers’ petitions to the Almighty. The melody was introduced by the Rebbe on the holiday of Simchat Torah in 1959.
Avinu Malkeinu

Avinu Malkeinu (“Our Father, Our King”) is a beloved element of the High Holiday service as well as the prayers said on fast days throughout the year. The kernel of this prayer, which was recorded in the prayer book of Rabbi Amram Gaon (9th century Babylon), can be found in the Talmud. After a particularly hard draught, Rabbi Akiva led the prayers and said the following: “Our Father, our King, ...
Aleinu Leshabayach
มุมมอง 6993 ปีที่แล้ว
This is a very, very old prayer. The famous Rav Hai Gaon states that this prayer was composed by Joshua, as he led the children of Israel into the promised land. Thus, when Joshu was about to settle the Jewish people in the Holy Land, he made them remember, through this hymn, that they were different from the Canaanite peoples, and other nations and tribes of the earth, who “worship vain things...

Our Sages tell us that King David in his book of Psalms did not speak only of himself or for himself, but he spoke for and on behalf of all Jewish people and for every Jew individually. His personal experiences reflect very closely the experience of the Jewish people as a whole. This is especially true in this particular Psalm, in which our Sages see a true image of the birth of our Jewish nati...
Shema Yisroel
มุมมอง 9483 ปีที่แล้ว
The Shema contains the essence of our faith, so much so, that countless Jewish martyrs calmly and bravely faced death with the words of Shema on their lips. They did so because they knew what these words meant. The Shema consists of three chapters, taken from the Torah. Its recitation twice daily (morning and evening) is a biblical commandment. In addition, we recite it just before retiring for...

Anything that isn't 100% Meʾah Sheʿarim-esque style Ashkenazi style of ḥazzanuṯ seems to be labeled "Sfardi" these days. Shame. There are other places on the internet where one can see what traditional Sepharadi ways of singing לכֿה דֿודֿי.
