He is so cool! The red goes over the black , ever since 3-tone was introduced in 58-59 . Under a really bright light ( sun ) you can see that the black is somewhat brownish , wich accounts also for the fine look of the 3-tone burst. I sprayed a target burst today with an airbrush , and it came out really nice. What you need is a steady hand ...... I always wonder why at Fender sunburst was the standard (cheapest) finish , as it seems to me that it needs more time and skill than a custom color job......

Amazing video!!! Just 1 observation and 1 question :D The observation is that at the end you've left one horn and about 1/4 of the front of the guitar without the red layer, around the small cutaway and down towards the belly. The question is: how come the red paint doesn't cover the black? It doesn't look that transparent at all when you spray it on the wallpaper, so I don't get how red can be layer #3 instead of #2, with black being #3. Much appreciated!

I always figured a 3 tone sunburst would have the red paint applied before the black. How does one prevent the red from spraying over the black outline?

I would love to see you paint an entire Strat in 3 tone sunburst from the start to completion. Just the whole process without worrying or commenting about anything that others think or say.
