    Thank you for this podcast! I think many of us, who have both played squash and watch it often ( as I do) often wonder about the very things you are asking! With the exception of the top 10 ( or so) it must be difficult to make a living in particular when you consider squash is the poor cousin to pro tennis. These interviews are both fascinating and enlightening Keep up the great work!

      @@rallyreportI would really like to hear how much pro players actually make? I’m guessing this sort of info would not easily be volunteered, and with good reason but I’d love to hear from you, I’m sure your audience would also, in general terms! What are the earnings of say, the top 10 or 20.

    I love the idea of nsl squash really needs league format tournaments but I would've loved it even more if the format was the normal one, with this format the sense of squash is not there. If you want to make it exciting maybe add the powerplay system used in the cib tournament last year or maybe make it 4 players per team and if it's 2-2 you choose one player which will play the last and deciding team. This format feels so American i don't see this idea having success outside America

    • @rallyreport
      @rallyreport 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Fair shout. I do think while first match or two might feel that way, but NSL will be a full season. Therefore, it won’t be a once year power play we see with CIB. By the time you follow along mid season you may feel differently

    • @michaelsanjuan5094

      I’d have to agree. I think a league and more traditional team format is an already exciting variety of the traditional squash match. Watching the exhibition, personally I was a little lost seeing players run around during a power play, or the player on court looking confused because they were being subbed off etc. Team formats of individual sports aren’t new, Laver Cup in tennis and Ryder Cup in golf. Think there is a way to make team format squash exciting but this seems to move too far past squash. I do want to game of squash to grow, I want clubs to be full and to see the culture around squash grow. So my opinion is that this is too far from the spirit of the actual game, but I hope to be proven wrong.

    Personally, as a spectator, I’m glad to see some referees becoming more sensitive to problematic clearance movement, and biasing the incoming players more. The quality of the shot should ultimately decide it’s retrievability-not the subtleness of the block. I still hope referees begin to acknowledge that there is a difference between where the ball is and the optimal stand-off distance to strike it. Henceforth, there is a difference between the direct line to the ball and that of the optimal footpath to strike the ball.

    Agree that the rules are too vague and that Asal is exposing the flaws of the game by exploiting them but I disagree that this isn't something that should be complained about by fans and players.. All games reform and modify their rules to keep up with the demands of the present day and Squash should be no different. They need to start getting much tougher or a whole generation of Juniors will join the Asal Circus

  • @virpathak4940
    @virpathak4940 ปีที่แล้ว

    The fact that Asal is able to keep getting away with what he does speaks more about the state of PSA refereeing than anything else. With how crappy the refs have always been, its insane to think that there hasn't been a player as dirty as Asal before. Some people want him to be banned but I bet another player will take his place if that happens. I legit feel like Asal has paved the way for other dirty players to follow in his footsteps and we'll be seeing many more of them on the tour in the next few years

    Squash is a game where maintaining your ranking is so much easier than tennis. Unless u get injured or go financially broke which impacts your ability to travel to tournament. If your are averagly consistent and just win a few rounds in platinum and gold, you stay fine.. Somebody like Carlos Alcaraz will never be possible in Squash. Top 100 to #1 in the world in 15 months with just 1 grand slam.

We dont even have to wait for whole season to see what dross he's talking(mostly). Marwan will be back to top 5. Farag will drop off the top 3. Assal still needs 2 years to crack the top spot. Coll will be no 1 , Elias no 2 and Assal will be 3. So Coll, Elias, asal, Ali, Marwan, mes, tarek as top 7

    Predictions and punditry! Stuart Crawford in the hot seat! The second part of this double header is contentious but unmissable and recored two weeks ago so let's give give Stuart some leeway. Starting with..."I don't think Victor [Crouin] will threaten top 10 this year." I'm pretty sure he's in the top 10 in tomorrow's rankings! Victor obviously caught 🔥and that's the beauty of sport. Next, Sean fairly adamant that Tinne is the stronger of the Giles sisters (as Nele rolled Tinne 3-0 in the Nantes final). Moving on, the up and coming players is definitely controversial. Stuart staying overly loyal (perhaps) to his Penn alums. I love calling out Aly Abou; he's class all round and has top 10 ceiling potential imo. Not sure about Andrew Douglas. Also sceptical about Curtis Malik (on Andrew's recommendation from hitting in England this summer). On the girls side, love all of Stuart's picks. Katie Mallif especially. I was slightly puzzled (disappointed even) on Stuart's take on World Juniors. I thought the lack of sportsmanship (from the Egyptians) had to be called out. Orfi is super high intensity (great!) but picks up doubles, blocks, fishes more than Asal (not great!). Stuart was there and didn't see it? C'mon man! Love the Brice Nicolas anecdote at the end: "might be the fittest junior ever...[wants to join the French sniper NAVY SEALS equivalent]...and it takes a pretty special kind of person to shoot people in the head in for a living!" In summary, squash fanatics will love this conversation. Sean and Stuart might be the best double act on squash social media right now. Bravo!

  • @tabssingh560

    Stuart Crawford always delivers! Love his projections and agree with most of them (especially the Women's). Wasn't sure about MES at 6 even before Qatar and it's Murphy's Law that MES went and won it! But Stuart cleverly covered himself by asking for a cut of the prize money if he provided the chip on the shoulder that MES needed to win!! 😂 On the Women's side, Sobhy at 6 is brutal perhaps but Stuart makes a well reasoned argument. Hope that Amanda has a listen and uses it as bulletin board material! Should be a cracking season! 🎆
