What is Clicker Training?!
Clicker training, or training with verbal markers, is a scientifically-backed “method” which has been proven incredibly effective.
Dogs learn within about 1-2 seconds of a behavior being performed, so when it comes to teaching these fast-moving creatures new things, being able to “capture” that moment and convey a specific meaning to them is terribly important. It can expedite your training significantly.
Here is a quick run-through of how I use my most important marker: “yes” and several demonstrations of its efficacy with my Malinois.

Now that I have tasted magic, there is nothing more I want other than to have other humans to be able to experience the same. The joy, peace, love and fullness is literally limitless. Yet we have constructed a world where we make it so confusing and abnormal to find it. We actually title it magic, because most don’t believe it’s real. The issue for those who don’t believe it, is that they’ve de...

How to Build Engagement & Motivation with Your Dog
Amazing!!
Not the baby bird 😭
How do you get a dog from the point to the point they can focus on you and turn at your side, I’m getting a mali in 4 months and am trying to do my best to learn as much as possible.
You deserve way more views. Keep up the good work. Keeping at it and being consistant on YT is hard. Please post more often :D
Love your videos! 🙏 thanks!
I'd love to see more about the spatial and tactile aspects of training. You're absolutely right that they are important factors, so now I'm really interested in being able to add them to my understanding of my relationship to my dog.
Yes! Thank you for asking! I think that would be incredibly helpful for people to see demonstrations of. Will work on this-thanks for the suggestion!
For three weeks every single gram of kibble was delivered via a clicker and never underestimate its effectiveness, just ask any dolphin.
It can clarify so much for animals!
Do you need the Cato board?
Nope! You could use a box, really anything they can stand on/behind. Technically don’t need anything, but it clarifies for her where I want her to reset. Showing the same exact picture (starting point and process) can really clarify things for them.
Its a beta orbiter
Great video. Thank you.
Very impressive 🎉
I’m not sure what you mean?
Thank you! Cheers!
Do I need a slip leash or a regular collar and leash okay?
What's the point?
Relationship building with your dog. Builds engagement, trust, fun, communication, behaviors, duration..a lottttt of stuff.
I follow several dog trainers, and I think your content is so much more detailed than others. I love it, thank you so much.
Wow, thank you so much! I remember trying to learn all these details when I first started out. Happy to share now!
👏👏👏💪🏻😎🇺🇸👏👏👏
👏👏👏💪🏻😎🇺🇸👏👏👏
Never used this in my training. Interesting way to do it
How do you primarily train? I have found this to be one of the fastest/most effective for most behaviors and most dogs. Other methods like free-shaping however, can really help clarify and solidify certain behaviors for some dogs.
Can I do that with my 12 year old dog?
If they are ball-driven, why not? Just of course always be careful if you are playing tug with an older pup ❤
That is so smart!!
Were you taught by someone to train or is this something you’ve done alone?
Hey thanks for asking! Basically, I’ve loved animals my whole life and spent a lot of time observing them in the wild as a kid. Grew up and got degrees in Deaf Studies and Special Education. Both of these taught me the science behind how behavior works. Then I got a lot of hands on practice and asked a lot of questions. Still learning to this day!
That’s nice! Sharp Mal!
Excellent! I was about to start teaching one of my Labs this trick, now I have a good plan to do it. Thanks, as always!
Have fun! I’d love a tag on my IG! Not sure how that works on TH-cam..
@Alignedk9 if I were on any social media, I would, happily. I just stick to "TH-cam University."
Imagine I only pay you with food when you do what I want. What kind of relationship does that build with your dog? What happens when they are full? Payments with treats creates a relationship based on transactions.
The point is that every animal has their unique currency. For humans, it is money. For dogs, it is food.
This is teaching 😊 more than one way to reward. Food or any reward can be faded if the process becomes fun for them!
I made the same mistake with my cat unfortunately 😢 .... true for all human n animal interactions ... will make a note of it .
Now you know for your future animals! ❤
Wait why would u want over time
You usually get paid more when working overtime hours
@@spyrotwins9719 but it’s there day off
More time worked generally= more money earned. Idk about you, but I want more money.
These are so helpful!
So happy for your feedback! 😊
Doing so good and they learn so quick.
Isn’t it crazy?! With the right motivation and process!
Thankyou good to watch
Observation is key !!!
Should I start with the middle to the sides before going from au pied to right ?
beautiful dog
Such an important concept
It’s so boring to watch, but may be one of the most important things dogs should “learn”.
why is this dog being taught in french, but using the word out instead of something like lâche. also why spelling couchez or coucher as couche (which wouldn’t have that é or ay sound at the end of it unless it was couché but that’s past tense)
I am clearly no French expert, but I do know that my pronunciation is not correct in terms of the actual language. But this is not why I use French.. The reason I trained him primarily with French is because of the sport I was doing with him: they give points based on the speed of which the dog completes the behavior. With French words, there are more than one syllable, therefore providing a bit extra time for the dog to complete the behavior before the end of the word. Additionally, I usually put more stress on the first syllable so the dog learns to cue off of that (ideally moves faster). And finally, hard sounds tend to be more easily heard. With this sport, there is often a lot of noise and craziness on the field, so softer sounds would likely be missed by the dog. So I adjust certain commands based off that. As opposed to just sticking to a proper language. Hope that makes sense! 👌🏼
My police k9 came from over seas and was originally taught for show. When he arrived here, he was already taught in French and we continued with the training.
I’m not sure if it’s the same for everyone but the out is obviously pretty important so we wanted to keep it quick and simple for the dog to understand instead of sounding similar to any other word for his commands. The out was clear and concise so he knew it was important. Especially since dogs will mostly learn sounds not necessarily the word so using the same tone and speed for each command is imprtant.
I can never find those balls you are holding, do they have a name ?
Yes! They are Starmark durafoam ball on rope! Amazon! I have a link in my Instagram bio for them!
Our, Belgian Shepherd is 6 months old, he chooses his reward. He starts with food treats, when hes had enough of the food he gets one of his toys and gives it to me. Then the training continues. I heard they where smart, but am astonished just how smart they are.
They’re SO smart. Most of the issues people have with them is not realizing that it’s the dog who has trained THEM 😂
@Alignedk9 funny you say that, we just started obedience training because he was starting to train me 🤣😂 the trainer was very impressed with him looking up at me when I asked him to do a task. I hear other people saying how intelligent these dogs are, but just blew it off. At 6 months old he's smarter than the 3 dogs I've had previously, combined. Food reward has gone now. And we had our first successful recall while playing fetch. Can't tell you how happy we both where. He loves his praise. Life's so much easier with him now he knows his place in the family pack.
This is extremely smart! And also a very well trained dog!
Thank you! Rewarding with a toy can really help bring out more energy in behaviors as well as build more duration for things like a focus heel. Really cool to watch the progress!
This woman is gorgeous!
Well thanks! Most of the time I’m covered in slobber, fur and dirt 😂
This is one of the best tips in that its so simple and yet so incredibly effective. Play in general is an awesome reward
Isn’t it crazy?! And what’s crazier, is very few people will actually DO this! But it actually makes our relationships with them SO much stronger and more fun.
Thank you 🙏
Thanks for sharing your experience. I rescued 7 puppies and kept 2, hoping to find them homes, but the adoption family backed out last minute. Many advised me not to keep two males from the same litter. When I see how you train, I think I can do it, but your honesty makes me realize I might need to focus on giving one the best care. Maybe I’m trying to do too much because I love them both. Your vulnerability helps me face this doubt and make the right choice. Thank you.
This can be a challenge for sure. I find most people swing too far one way or the other (either drop them off at a shelter, or over-baby them and end up creating a very insecure dog). It is possible, but we all have this one life to live and so do they. Always genuinely trying to do the best for all parties involved.
Wow loving your content. Just recently have taking training serious and I’d say you are top* 5 for sure that I’ve found.
Thank you! Thrilled to inspire anyone to go work with their dogs! ❤
That it is so wrong, to repress the dog's feeling... awful video. The most beautiful thing of a dog is the love expression and you wanted to erase.......
Not at all. This is simply for those who are unwilling to train their dogs in more depth, and are about to send them to their deaths at shelters (which are OVERFLOWING) because they “can’t handle them”. …it is far kinder to use tools to communicate or manage dogs so they can actually coexist with humans who refuse to put in more work-than it is to avoid them because of our own projected fears….and then give those dogs up to shelters. I can’t tell you how many dogs have needlessly been put to sleep due to this kind of fear. …are there more preferred options for training? Absolutely. I 100% want people to work on their relationships with their dogs. But most won’t even work on their relationship with themselves… I refuse to NOT share something simply because of projected fears-when it could potentially save even ONE life 👌🏼
I hope someday I can get to such a place with my dog, but it feels so unlikely :(
If you got the resources check out Dog Daddy. One of the BEST corrective trainers
See it in your mind and feel what it feels like. Then be consistent and be willing to make mistakes..the rest will follow 👌🏼
Excellent video!
This is great for me... my dog loses her mind when someone knocks on the door or rings the bell! It won't be easy, but I'm going to work on this 😃💕🐶
Consistency is key! Make place fun!
You're a good trainer, and you have very happy doggos!
Thank you so much! I feel I have such a long way to go. But there’s little else in the world as satisfying as seeing the dogs I work with happy and loving life!
I have a Malligator too.but my Chihuahua runs the show👹
😂😂 My oldest smallest girl does too!…maybe not as much fire as a Chihuahua, but she’s definitely in charge 😂❤
They’re all wonderful 😭🥰
Aren’t they?!❤
Awesome job pups! They get all the booty scratches!❤❤
All the booty scratches, belly rubs-rent-free lives! They give us their all, this is the least we could give them in return!
I love to watch the dogs work. You do a beautiful job with them and I’ve learned so much from your channel! 🙌🏻
I’m so happy to hear it!! It’s definitely a lot of work to create so much free content, but it makes my heart sing reading comments like this! And knowing that maybe I helped inspire even one person to go enjoy their relationship with their dog! ❤
