327th INF. Lucky you, able to do this during the winter months, we always did our (2/502nd INF) in June and thankfully I got my EIB in my first 2 months of my first duty station back in 84. A lot of skills have gradually been dropped from what we were trained to perform as Infantrymen, we didn’t need an Air Force liaison to coordinate CAS for us, we went to a short school and learned the capability envelopes of aircraft and various munitions, similar for artillery support. When I retired in 2009 is was becoming more clear that dropped some skills we had such as how to coordinate a golly fire for the AT-4/LAW and why we use this technique. I won’t say that we’re weaker as Infantrymen, just some good skills were dropped. You are about to be sent to fight in Europe, you’ll need to master how to camouflage yourself and vehicles, how to set up mechanical ambushes, AP/AT mine deployment, false insertions and function in sub zero climates. We forget that sound will travel 3 times farther in freezing temperatures and it’s more difficult to hide from thermal optics. Men require more calories to function in cold temperatures so we have to make sure they eat well, no pogey bait or ramen in the field, you’ll soon learn why that is a problem. And our black soldiers have a harder time in cold climates, their bodies are very efficient at getting rid of heat so keep a close eye on them, for them the cold is a constant bear and you won’t really understand if you’re white like myself. Tough love works for short periods only, just for when you’re driving home a new standard or if the standards slip in your squad/platoon, we have to think long term so take care of their needs, make sure they have a place where they can relax and get good sleep, steal/beg/horse trade for whatever they may need to get that good rest. If you don’t, your men will quickly start to make mistakes and it’ll get worse the longer they lack good sleep. It’s called “economy of force” we’re a long term force, unlike the Marines who do 6 month rotations, we’re here for the long game and grinding on the men and making them sleep in a shithole only makes them weak and tells them you don’t give a shit about their well being. And don’t allow fellow NCO’s to abuse their men, pull him aside and tell him to cool down or the rest of the NCO’s will beat his ass until he does! Poor leadership causes men to make mistakes and then after a few men are gone, you’ll be picking up the slack he made. The lower the IQ of a leader, the more inclined to abuse they can become. Get ready, buy quality socks and make sure your Goretex jackets/parkas work, most men just toss their Goretex in the washer which makes it useless, have the men bring their Goretex parkas to PT formation, get a hose, have the men put their parkas on and hose them down for 15 minutes then have them open their parkas and check for leakages. Trust me, you’ll thank me later.

My old home. A very large part of my heart remains there. ♣ Dco 3/327th Inf. Reg. 1st BDE. Bastogne. 101st Division. Ft Campbell, KY. 42223. I was given orders out of Ft Benning GA to go to Vecinza Italy and I saw a bulletin asking for anyone wanting to go to the 101st to sign the list. I signed it and gave up my orders for Vecinza Italy to go to Ft Campbell. Everyday at Ft Benning, Dco 1/507th PIR my first Sgt smoked me for being stupid enough to turn down a sham duty station in Vecinza Italy to go the the 101st Division. I never regretted it. I became a Screaming Eagle, served in an elite unit, met the most incredible men, some are still my closest friends today, accomplished superhuman things because how hard they pushed us, recieved tons of training, got to live a high speed-low drag life, and traveled many places with my unit. My ONLY regret is that it didn't last forever. It's not for everyone. If you're not innately a warrior, if you enlisted to prove something to others rather than to yourself, if you're not there cause you want to be there then you'll hate it. Not everyone's meant to be a warrior. Not everyone has the heart of a warrior. Some men are weak men and some men are cowards. But if you have a warriors heart there's a home for you with 1st Brigade Bastogne 101st Division. If you feel you don't belong in civilian society, you were destined for something greater but you don't know what it is and you feel lost out in this world. . . The Infantry has a home for you, will give you a brotherhood, give you guidance, a purpose, meaning to your life and push you to be greater than you ever dreamed humanly possible. ♣Rendezvous With Destiny! Hoo-ah! ♣

For Line 5 there’s a easier to calculate distance. HT(70 is the height for most combatants)x25.4(constant)divide mils = distance

Yes, Just take it one event at a time and do rush yourself. I saw a lot of people get a no-go because they rushed into the event’s without spending time in the holding area before each lane.

Take off those masks! Your leadership needs to take some NBC training and understand that a cloth mask is useless.
