I had a hernia too - a big one. My reversal was a year and a half ago. I'm so happy to poop normally again! But regarding scars, the one from my hernia is the most annoying. A mesh was installed; the two surgeons were scheduled together so the hernia could be repaired at the same time. The healing went well with no complications. But it seems like the hernia scar - well it was like a flap, it almost looked like the hernia was still there! It did go down and by now I'm used to all of them, I might even swim without a shirt over my two-piece next summer! Also might get a little nip-tuck but haven't had the time/money. BUT you might want to ask both surgeons to take the best care possible in closing up the wounds, or rather just let them know you're concerned about what the scars (and bulges) might look like (if you are), bc then it won't insult their skills. They'll do their best. They don't sew up the stoma hole, it's allowed to close up on its own (for mine, anyway). I don't think about my altered appearance that much, though I had thought it would look a bit better than it does. It's SO SO much better than having a stoma; one can do anything one did before that was a pain while having a "bag". I thought I might miss it! A stoma is not So bad, but no.

@DanielOrtizMalone thanks for the reply yeah bro..this will be my second surgery..had a rupture in my colon they had to cut 17cm. out...diverticulitis ...came outa of it with a stoma....and a wound vac because infection..the pain was so bad bro.. could even walk for a few weeks...I guess what I'm asking is the reversal as bad as the frist...I'm a father of 3 girls. small in age...I haven't been able to return to work since June....so far everything looks good with colonoscopy and blood work...but I'm gonna be honest...not looking forward...in your video you said it was a breeze...the reversal

Wow! I'm glad you pulled through! After the planned first surgery I became septic and nearly died which resulted in the colostomy bag. My point is that it was incredibly difficult so in comparison the reversal was nothing.. of course, there's pain but knowing what to expect from having a horrible experience before better prepared me. Moving and walking as quickly as I could, of course as recommended, and remaining positive even when it was hard made a huge difference for me. The acid reflux was murder... make sure to get something for that asap. Are they going to give you a drain? They did for me, 2... they looked crazy but there was no pain.

@DanielOrtizMalone I had 2 drains during the last surgery.....no drain talked about..they told me it will be a robotic surgery....I'm really healthy now..dropped weight down to 140 from 190....it was bad...my kidneys shut down and was swollen from infection....I'm at 165 and doing good...i appreciate the tips for the acid reflex...I will definitely get what I can I have a strong support system..good family just kinda needed alil advice from someone who's been threw it....definitely looking forward to life without the bag..I hate it.. .. but it did save my life...

Hi. Thank you for your question. I no longer have my colostomy bag however the most frustrating problem that I had when it came to work was passing gas in front of coworkers and customers! it was very embarrassing and funny but mainly embarrassing. Having to worry about sharp corners and ever surface was annoying as well but overall, not that bad. In my daily life well, there was a lot of "problems". I would go back my videos where I talk about the benefits and frustrations when I actually had my bag. Hope that will help answer your question.

You got this! Take it easy! My incision was closed so I didn't have to stuff anything but hopefully that will heal up quickly and nicely.

Hi there! Thank you for your comment and for checking out my channel. An NG Tube. I am not 100% certain what that is. I did have 2 draining tubes after I had my reversal surgery. I had them for about 4 days or so. They didn't drain all too much but I am glad my surgeon inserted them during the surgery when I was under and not later when I was awake. I've had that done when I had my second surgery which resulted in the bag... and that hurts even though they numb you. I am going to assume that Is what you are asking. They weren't bad at all and I didn't feel them. When it was time for them to come out... I did feel one more than the other however wasn't bad. I recommend getting up and moving around as soon as it is safe and suggested, wearing your binder when you are home, plenty of water, and low meat diet for a while. I developed bad acid reflux and after a day or two after my reversal surgery, it was unbearable. That can be addressed quickly and easily. Now I take an anti-acid pill every day, if not then life sucks again lol When the pain was bad and I questioned it all, remaining positive and reminding myself (out loud ) that the pain was temporary. For me personally my mind automatically goes to the very worst in any movement I made... but focusing on what my body was telling me and not my fears also made a significant difference. This is because after becoming septic and the horrors of my second surgery I needed to try something different mentally. I could ramble forever so I will stop here. I hope this helps and I wish you the best. Please feel free to ask any questions cause a lot of my content didn't come off with what I was trying to convey.

I'm so sorry to hear that! Have you had your follow-up yet? Just make sure they know of all your experiencing and hopefully they can address those things. Drinking enough water and moving around help me. I hope it gets better for you.

I wish you the best and and speedy recovery! I'm happy that it made you less nervous. In my experience, the reversal was nothing compared to the recovery from the emergency surgery when I was septic. Staying positive and moving around helped me a lot.

Sorry for the late response. For some reason this comment didnt show up. You are right there isnt alot of information out there and even when I asked my surgeon I didnt get a clear response. Short answer yes... depending on your situation. Has this experience alterned my sex life even after reversal, yes! Does it suck yes! BUT I am grateful to be alive and for a successful reversal. The sex stuff is something I am working on but at this point its psychological because physically im fine.

Perhaps that was just the brand Orme being weird lol repairing from hernia surgery was more painful than my reversal surgery. I hope it continues not to be an issue for you! Oh the scars!! I have so many and they aren't pretty either... so many people have very small or clean cuts. I feel like 2 of the 3 surgeons didn't care how it would look like after... but they were good with correcting the issues so I can't complain too much! Thanks again for the support and sharing your journey. It does help to talk to others who understand.

Hi! Depends on what kind of pain. I'll feel some slight pain from time to time which is usually quick and goes away fairly quickly... this tends to happen around my incisions and due to the amount of scar tissue. This has been explained as being normal. Pain from feeling constipated from what I eat is something I can help. So increasing water is my first go to and usually takes care of it. Miralax has also helped. Fiber is also a must in the diet. Putting out a video soon talking about some of this very soon.

Hi! Overall I feel great. I'm coming up on 2 years since my reversal and have been thinking about making an update video because there are things I'm surprised by and things I didn't expect. Oh no!! I'm sorry!!! I'm l terrified of it coming back. Are you waiting to confirm it? How many times you been on the antibiotics? Did you have a colostomy reversal?

⁠@@DanielOrtizMalone you should definitely do a video. Not a lot of people our age get diverticulitis that leads to a perforation . No one really understands how terrible it is. Your videos help people. After my colostomy reversal I spent most of my first year after with bowel obstructions from either adhesions from my surgery or because of superior mesenteric artery syndrome that I got from starving during the diverticulitis. This is the first time since all of that dealing with diverticulitis again.I didn’t think I would ever get diverticulitis again. Guess I was wrong. I never seem to get better. It is always something

Not officially no but it's a challenge maintaining the appropriate amount of water and fiber.
