A digital home for Mikis Theodorakis
On 29 July 2024, one year before what would have been Mikis Theodorakis' 100th birthday, Schott Music, in cooperation with Aviator Management and curator Asteris Kutulas, is launching an initiative to give this inspiring composer and humanist a digital home: a global platform - with his music, his thoughts, his humour and his contentious, democratic spirit.
Starting on 2 September 2024, exactly three years after the Greek composer's death, the new Mikis Theodorakis TH-cam Artist Channel will feature an ever-growing collection of footage about his musical work, his life, his artistic vision, and his critical observations.
The launch of the channel marks the beginning of MIKIS 100 - the project for Mikis Theodorakis' 100th birthday in July 2025.

After Mikis received 6 encores and went to his dressing room to change, he noticed that the audience was still applauding frenetically. The musicians were already on the bus. Mikis went back on stage alone and sang "Lindenbaum" by Franz Schubert, in whose song tradition he saw himself, together with the German audience and ended the song with the words "Eviva Schubert!” Mikis saw in Franz Schubert the most important songwriter of the 19th century.
Nachdem Mikis 6 Zugaben bekommen und in seine Garderobe gegangen und sich bereits umgezogen hatte, bemerkte er, dass die Zuschauer immer noch frenetisch Beifall klatschten. Die Musiker saßen bereits im Bus. Mikis ging nochmal allein auf die Bühne und sang zusammen mit dem deutschen Publikum den „Lindenbaum“ von Franz Schubert, in dessen Lied-Tradition er sich sah, und beendete das Lied mit den Worten „Eviva Schubert!“. Mikis sah in Franz Schubert den bedeutendsten Liedermacher des 19. Jahrhunderts. Mit diesem Schubert-Song beendete Mikis viele seiner Konzerte im deutschsprachigen Raum.
