Exploring Philippines' War-Torn City 🇵🇭 | Marawi City
The Battle of Marawi City, which occurred from May to October 2017, was a significant armed conflict in the Philippines. It erupted when a local extremist group, Maute, pledged allegiance to ISIS and laid siege to Marawi, a city in Mindanao. The battle was a response to a government attempt to capture Isnilon Hapilon, the leader of the extremist faction Abu Sayyaf.
The conflict resulted in a brutal and protracted urban warfare situation. Philippine armed forces, with assistance from the United States and Australia, engaged in intense combat against the militants. The fighting led to extensive damage in Marawi, displacing thousands of residents and causing a humanitarian crisis. After five months of intense combat, the Philippine government declared victory in October 2017, but the city lay in ruins.
Six years after the Battle of Marawi City, the situation has evolved significantly. While scars from the conflict still mark the landscape, the city has made considerable progress towards recovery and rehabilitation. Marawi is now generally safe for residents to move around, but challenges persist.
Reconstruction efforts have been underway, with damaged buildings gradually being rebuilt, and basic services like water and electricity restored. The government, in collaboration with international agencies, has made strides in addressing the housing needs of displaced residents, allowing some to return to their homes.
However, pockets of ruins and debris remain, serving as poignant reminders of the intense battle. The city's economic and social fabric is still on the path to complete recovery, with some businesses reopening and schools resuming classes.
The security situation has improved significantly, thanks to the government's efforts to root out extremist elements. The Philippine military maintains a presence to ensure safety, and checkpoints are in place. While the threat of sporadic violence persists, the overall atmosphere has become more stable.
Marawi City's journey to full recovery is ongoing, but the resilience of its residents and the commitment of the government to rebuild offer hope for a brighter future, where the scars of the past will eventually fade into history.

Better than Boracay? - THIS is the BEST Sandbar in the Philippines 🇵🇭
มุมมอง 150ปีที่แล้ว
After completing our Mt Guiting Guiting hike, we went to a remote island off Sibuyan Island called Cresta de Gallo Island. I knew that we'd go to an island after our hike but didn't expect so much because Sibuyan Island was very countryside. However, I was taken by surprise when I reached the island because of the sandbar that connected two islands. It was just sheer beauty to see it. I wanted ...
DON'T COME TO THIS PLACE in the Philippines Unless You Want to Struggle - Mt Guiting Guiting
มุมมอง 350ปีที่แล้ว
On the 2nd day, we woke up in the rain. We put our tent down and headed to the summit of Mt Guiting Guiting. As we approached the "Knife Edge' zone, the wind hit us so hard that it made us struggle to move forward. When we reached the summit, there was no view as expected. Feeling a bit of disappointment, we hiked down to our campsite for the night. ⏳ Timestamps ⏳ 00:00 - Intro 00:32 - Going to...
I Hiked the Philippines' TOUGHEST Mountain with My Filipino Friends! - Mt Guiting Guiting
มุมมอง 838ปีที่แล้ว
Mount Guiting Guiting is one of the technical mountains in the Philippines with 9 out of 9 difficulties and is located on Sibuyan island in Ronblon. Since the trails in Mount Guiting Guiting are difficult, you need to show two certifications of your major hikes to get yourself approved to be allowed to challenge the trails. I didn't know so much about this mountain, but I started to realise tha...
FIRST IMPRESSION of Higalaay Festival 2023 🥳 - Cagayan de Oro City in the Philippines 🇵🇭

Higalaay Festival is an annual festival held in Cagayan de Oro City, which takes place a week after the Kadayawan Festival in Davao. After visiting Davao City, I came back to CDO to see the festival. I thought it was going to be a very busy festival, but it was actually very chill and relaxed when compared to the size of the city. ⏳ Timestamps ⏳ 00:00 - Civic Military Parade 01:59 - Miss Grand ...
FIRST Impression of Kadayawan Festival 2023 🎉 - Davao City in the Philippines
มุมมอง 1.3Kปีที่แล้ว
e Kadayawan Festival is an annual festival held in Davao City, which is also known as the durian capital of the Philippines. For this year, I decided to see the festival after seeing many festivals in the Visaya region, hoping to see something different. To be honest, it was very different because I didn't see any Sto Nino in the Kadayawan festival. I rather saw a lot of traditional and Islamic...
FIRST TIME in Vietnam and Seeing A Sea of Clouds in Sapa 🇻🇳

Located in the northwest region of Vietnam, Sapa is renowned for its stunning rice terraces, misty valleys, and awe-inspiring mountain peaks. The region is home to a diverse ethnic population, including the Hmong, Dao, Tay, and Giay tribes, each with its own unique traditions and customs. Not knowing so much about what Sapa offers, I rode a sleeper bus from Hanoi to Sapa. It was 3 am when I arr...
I Found Thailand's Hidden Gem in Kanchanaburi 🇹🇭 - Erawan Falls
มุมมอง 173ปีที่แล้ว
Erawan Falls are one of the most sought-after tourist destinations in Kanchanaburi. I didn't know the waterfalls when I came to Kanchanaburi, but since almost all the people I met in my hostel had been to the waterfalls and told me that it was good, I wanted to give it a try. From my hostel to the waterfalls, it was a one-hour drive. However, it was a bit of a hustle to pay the entrance fee bec...
I Stepped into Myanmar from Thailand without Passport 🇹🇭🇲🇲
มุมมอง 355ปีที่แล้ว
Mon Village is located in the northern part of Kanchanaburi. It's famous for its long wooden bridge and a place to explore points of interest around the lake. From the downtown of Kanchanaburi, it took me 3 hours to reach there and took another half an hour to reach the border crossing point to Myanmar. It was not a tourist spot at all, but I was just simply interested in what would be there. T...

Finally Seeing What I've seen in History Textbooks in Ayutthaya, Thailand 🇹🇭

Ayutthaya is one of the most famous sightseeing sites in Thailand. It's renowned for the ruins of the kingdom once the most powerful and advanced country in the world. I don't know much about its history, but I know the name and the Buddha's head in a tree. The head in a tree was one of the big reasons to visit Ayutthaya because I'd seen it on TV and in textbooks many times. On the day, I rente...
A KIND Thai Showed Me How to Visit A Thai Temple in A Proper Manner - Bangkok, Thailand 🇹🇭

Thailand has a lot of temples. As a Japanese, I've visited a lot of temples in Japan. We share a similar Buddhism culture, so I thought that I knew how to visit one in Thailand already. However, it was a bit different than I thought. On that day, I went out to Khlong Bang Luang Market which was near the hotel I stayed. On the way, I passed by a colourful and elegant temple, and it tempted me to...

Songkran is the Thai New Year festival, celebrated annually from April 13 to 15. Also known as the "Water Festival," Songkran is a time for cleansing, renewal, and new beginnings. People splash water on each other to wash away the old and bring in the new. It was April 17th when I arrived at Kanchanaburi. I thought that Songkran was over and I was ready to move on to the next adventure of going...

Kadayawan is not a religious festival, it is a thanksgiving celebration of bountiful harvest in nature and diversity & unity of culture
Oh that's why I didn't see any st niño 😆
@@Heita_the_Explorer Nope, Kadayawan is celebrated by all religious faith in Davao City regardless
Hi, b4 the parade start. You should find a good place for a better view, ur position is far from d dancers. We wants to see d full view, how nice to see their costume n their performance as well. Thank u Sir.
Oh yeah next time 😁
Hi Heita, Thanks for visiting Davao and joining the Kadayawan Festival. By the way, Kadayawan is not a religious festival unlike the one in Sinulog (paying tribute to Sto. Nino of Catholic Church), but it's more a cultural festival that celebrates the bountiful harvest and unity, honoring the icons of Davao namely Mt. Apo (tallest mountain in the country), Durian (king of fruits), Philippine Eagle (largest eagle native to PH & Davao/Mindanao particularly and also the national bird) and Waling Waling (queen of orchids, native orchids only found in Davao area). The festival also pays tribute to the 11 original native tribes living in the city. That's why you will see a lot of variation of dance, music and clothing because each native have their own culture, tradition and even languages. It's the best month to visit Davao as well since that''s the season of harvest of many fruits where you can buy many and cheaply. Davao is the fruit basket capital of the Philippines, it's the main producer of Durian, Mangosteen, Banana, Marang, Rambutan and many more, in which Davao also as top exporter of these fruits and even sell them to other cities & provinces like Manila, Cebu. I say this festival is much more inclusive since this transcends religion and culture. I recommend you to visit the traditional houses during Kadayawan in Magsaysay Park and eat many fruits in any public markets. Hopefully, you can visit again.
Oh, there are 11 native tribes! That's interesting!! I thought of visiting Magsaysay park but I didn't, so maybe next time 😀😀
There are several Japanese memorial shrines in Davao, you might be interested in visiting them too! Before WW2, Davao City was known as Little Tokyo because there were so many Japanese working in abaca farms. Search in Google about Ohta Kyozaburo to know more about Japan's history in Davao and Ohta's contribution to Davao before it became a city.
Oh, I didn't know that! That's amazing! Maybe next time, I want to visit there 😄
The gay drink 😂😂😂😂

Haha i was there it really liked your expectations 😂
Hahaha, we can't change the weather, so we need to comply 😅
Welcome back 🎉
Thank you 😊
It is a beautiful art form of dance. Thank you Heita and welcome back. 💃🕺
Thank you! 😊
a little rough and raw infrastructure wise but still , a beautiful place, worth visiting….if your young😅
Hahaha, you can still visit when you get old 😅
I once assisted a Korean man who was having problems with his motorcycle. When I asked him what was wrong, he stated it needed to be pushed. So I pushed it, and he asked if it was okay. Of course, I replied. Then I pushed it hard, and the motor started after a few seconds. He was going to hand me a 500 peso bill, which surprised me because it was such a minor task. So I declined and told him it was fine; there was no need to give me money. He rejects and wishes to compensate me with money. I politely rejected, and after declining his offer he finaly thanks me. 😁 We are not interested in the money. We simply wish to assist without expecting anything in return. Because it will never felt good if we accept anything. But on the other hand, they will also feel guilty if we refuse. Either way, I think there is nothing wrong about it. We will take our good deeds and talk about it in tagay sessions :)
Wow, you're also a good dude 😎 I thought of drinking together with them but I needed to leave early in the morning next day, so I gave them money 😅
Sweet!!
Thanks 🙏
Be happy and be safe Heita ❤
Thank you 😊😊
Wonderful... Pilipinos are Matulungin Helpful indeed.❤😊
Yes ² 😀😀
That’s good your enjoying what Philippines can offer
Yes I do 😀😀
That’s what you called “Bayanihan” in the Philippines that’s one of great traits Filipinos has .
Yes, I agree that it's the best trait Filipino has 😀😀
I’m Filipino and things that I take for granted, amaze me when foreigners tell stories like this. I’ve become more appreciative of my mga kababayan with numerous blogs that I watch attesting to the kindness of us Pinoys.
I think everyone would be impressed if you're treated in that way! I didn't expect someone to step in and help because it was late at night 😖
Please can you meet mana
I wish 😆😆
i something experience similar to this, me and my brother biking to our cousins to make them repair our laptop but when we are almost at the house of our cousin i notice my brother out of breath and almost fall on his knees at the time it was hot 1 pm i go to the nearest shop to buy a water and when i came back many people gathered helping my brother who is sitting and a bit dizzy, giving him water and such.
Wow, what a rough day but it seems that your brother was in the right place to be looked after 😀😀
That's how we roll
You guys rocks! ✊
New subscriber here😊
Salamat po 😀
in province its still possible but in metro manila😜, i have more trust in people who lives in the province to help without expecting anything in return. It also happened to me when im travelling from my province going to metro manila, when my motorcycle suddenly died, the fuel is not going in the tube even though its has sufficient gas, but thanks to my kababayan who help me when they saw me pushing my motorcycle @2 am 😂. But heres another scenario, my motorcycle has faulty again somewhere in Metro Manila and no one even asked me if they could help me, i pushed my motorcycle for around 2 hours, until i found someone i know near that area to help me, so there's a big difference between Filipinos living in the City and those who live in the Province,
Oh, that was such a rough day! I agree that there's always a help in the province and that's what I like to be there 😀
Be careful of aswang/engkanto element spirit there in province, by the way my province is dumaguete 😅😂
Oh, I love Dumaguete 😀 Very livable city 👍
