    Thanks for doing this comparison. This confirms that I want to add CSS to my Berlin Strings. BS on it's own, while it gives us the detailed and extensive articulations, sounds a little thin and underwhelming. It's capable of great articulation, though. You've confirmed what I've suspected -- that CSS would really blend well with BS and fill it out, helping also with the legato transitions. Thanks again.

    • @georgopoulos.compositions
      @georgopoulos.compositions 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Glad I could help! Yes, I think BSS is thinner in sound. But I think it's due to the legato, too. I think slower legato transitions would make it more "full", too. But, BSS is great for divisi string chords and other stuff. Constantly using the soft sustain patches for example.

    • @MahlonBouldin
      @MahlonBouldin 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Berlins Strings = divisi for sure. It's great at that. Currently, I mixing BS with a little Vista Strings. Good combination, too.

    Cool content! Staffpad libraries do have great expression but still long way to go for sounding as realistic as CSS or Berlin sample libraries.

  • @CraigBrysonMusic
    @CraigBrysonMusic 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Really like the romantic melody here Jorgo... thanks for the comparison. The CSS with BS was a great combo. I dont have either but am thinking about both. Also, I hope future versions of Staffpad will have more detailed versions of the sample libraries. Its already great but can be better.

    • @georgopoulos.compositions
      @georgopoulos.compositions 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks Craig! Also wished for an update for the Staffpad versions or an update for BS desktop to sound similar to its Staffpad version legato. CSS still top tier imo

    The way you captured Xenoblade's vibe is fantastic. And even in this quite busy track you achieved to give every instrument dedicated roles and space in which they can stand out and shine. From the point of production quality, recording the electric guitars' strumming twice and moving both tracks to 100% left and right in the stereo field with a few miliseconds of space in between creates much more width and thickness in sound. Maybe that could help to improve it a bit for some icing on the cake. But already without further mixing this deserves its place in a new Xenoblade game. You got me on fire when I listen to your soundtracks.

  • @niclasnightflame
    @niclasnightflame 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    How gorgeous, I love every second of this piece and its development. Just a short question came through my mind: Did you intentionally refer to the Mitsuda-lick at 0:33? If yes, very tasteful decision! I don't know the track from Final Fantasy which inspired you yet but I'll check it out. Hope to see you in Köln at the regular's table soon. Enjoy your holidays. :)

      Thank you very much Niclas, means a lot! Not quiet sure about the Mitsuda-lick though, can you tell me which one? Definitely check out Hamauzu’s FF13 OST, it’s my fav. "Nautilus" is also a great track btw:D See you soon!

    • @niclasnightflame
      @niclasnightflame 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The Mitsuda-lick is a phrase which can be found as a characteristic sign in JRPG-music. It is originally used by Mitsuda in the late 80s I think or 90s and inspired many composers of JRPGs. The figure is known for its three quick half steps down the scale like you did it from the E at 0:32 down the chromatic scale, leading into the big step down to the lower register. @@georgopoulos.compositions

    I think I prefer the legato in CSS strings - how is your opinion and to which one you stick mostly?

    • @georgopoulos.compositions
      @georgopoulos.compositions 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Still think that CSS is the king of all string libraries, especially for slurred(!) legato. But I find myself using Con Moto very often, due to its bowed legato, which can sound much more realistic imo. For some semi-lush main melodies it sounds just so right. Also the way it mixes feels a little bit better than CSS. But if you want a nice connected legato slur, nothing beats CSS still (also CSSS).

    Both are premium sounding but neither sound good enough without the need to be layered, which of course, takes extra work. It's somewhat sad after all these years of technological advances, but as of 2023, I've yet to hear a standalone orchestral strings sample library that could be convincing enough without having to stack the deck!

    • @georgopoulos.compositions
      @georgopoulos.compositions ปีที่แล้ว

      In their defense, this is a sloppy comparison, nontheless it shows their weakness. I find the con moto approach pretty interesting, they're pretty great for everything that hasn't has to be too slurred, yet is legato enough. I wished there was a con moto with lower dynamics (currently it is only mf-fff)
